Left says Dems caved on shutdown
The Hill ^ | Jan 22, 2018 | By Rafael Bernal

Progressives are hammering Sen. Minority Leader Charles Schumer

(D-N.Y.) for his agreement with Senate Republican leadership to end the government shutdown on Monday.

Even House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi

(D-Calif.) has spoken out against the deal, saying there was no reason to support it.

“I don’t see that there’s any reason –– I’m speaking personally and hearing from my members –– to support what was put forth,” Pelosi said at a press briefing shortly before Schumer signaled Senate Democrats would agree to it.

Activists took a harsher tone.

“It’s official: Chuck Schumer

is the worst negotiator in Washington – even worse than Trump,” said Murshed Zaheed, political director at CREDO, a progressive advocacy group.

“Any plan to protect Dreamers that relies on the word of serial liars like [Senate Majority Leader] Mitch McConnell

[R-Ky.], [House Speaker] Paul Ryan

[R-Wisc.] or Donald Trump

is doomed to fail,” Zaheed added.

Schumer and McConnell brokered a deal to pass a continuing resolution to fund the government until Feb. 8 in exchange for a compromise from Senate Republican leadership to hold a vote on DACA-replacement legislation by that date.

Activists were incensed at the deal, as it includes no guarantees that a bill will pass — nor does it tie an immigration bill to a must-pass measure to give Democrats leverage.

The agreement also includes no guarantees that a potential Senate agreement on DACA could see a vote in the House.

What kind of DACA deal could possibly pass SCOTUS if SCOTUS already ruled it is an illegal action. This would have to be a major immigration re-write.

SCOTUS ruled that Obama's EO was the illegal action. If Congress passes legislation that legalizes DACA, that's a horse of a different color.

I suspect what really made Chuckie soil his shorts was looking at the weekend polling data and focus groups.

The Left caved on shut down?

What happened to convincing us that the Republicans had been the ones shutting down the government?

The Atlantic:there was little they could do to sugarcoat the outcome: Democrats will come out of the shutdown with nothing more than a commitment to address immigration on the Senate floor in a process that is “neutral and fair to all sides”—not necessarily to pass a bill that will give citizenship to Dreamers, nor a promise that such a bill would survive the more conservative House and earn Trump’s signature.

DACA happened via an illegal, extra-constitutional Executive Order. Before the next vote the president solve/end it as an issue with a legal, constitutional one bypassing Schumer completely.

All this appears to be doing is agreeing for running the gov for 2 1/2 weeks.

It also teaches the Dems that their tactics won't work like they used to.

How about a plan to protect American citizens from the illegal alien so called “dreamers” ???

How about a deportation plan for those “dreamers” ???

That’ll work...

Good point. Why is it a starting point for BOTH sides that a large group of illegal aliens gets to stay here? Because “it’s not their fault”? Well, cry me a river.

Schumer has a big problem that’s not even been mentioned in the coverage of this matter: restoration and repair of Penn. Central Station, a new rail tunnel, and massive rail repairs. All of that is essential to the whole NYC area and its economy. With the Witch as President the 15 billion plus dollars needed for the project would have been wired. With PDJT the whole project is in question. Methinks that has been quietly on the table throughout these negotiations. PDJT, being a New Yorker, knows all the pressure points and the New York economic interests that are more than willing to put pressure on Schumer to come across in negotiations like the present.

Let’s put some facts into the mix

OH NOOOOOEZ...etc.....

The day these illegal alien so called “children” turn 18 they are now committing crimes in their own names...they are now adults and responsible for their own behavior, their own crimes...their own illegal presence in our country...

IOW it is now “their fault”

Although it still remains the fault of the illegal alien parents also...

I’ll accept that the under age illegal aliens could be excused from “fault” for their illegal presence but we are told they were dragged here “unwillingly” kicking and screaming and digging in their heels and losing their tiny fingernails in the door jam etc...SOB SOB etc

so why don’t they run their 18 yo butts home to Mexico the moment they are free to make it right ???

and why didn’t ever they tell someone (police, teacher, neighbor etc) of the awful abuse by their parents ???

“HELP HELP I’m being kept here illegally by my parents...I want to go home to Mexico I don’t want to be here illegally. I didn’t want to come here. I begged my parents not to make me break American immigration laws but they wouldn’t listen they beat me and made me come with them”

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm ???

They lost because, for the first time in their experience, they were up against a real fighter, our PRESIDENT TRUMP.

“I’m not sure I see the winning.”

In the big picture, that’s true. But the Rats never see the big picture, and they think they lost this round. That psychological situation is worth a lot.

All anyone needs to know is there are 24 Dim Senators up for re-election in 2018.

10 from states won by Trump.

I’m sure Chuckie was getting calls from all of them, threatening a public break with the official Party Line.

Imagine the campaign ads...
