K-12: Does Anyone Care That Kids Cry?
American Thinker.com ^ | December 9, 2017 | Bruce Deitrick Price

In the late winter of 1964, Kitty Genovese was murdered in a residential part of Queens, New York. Newspapers claimed that 38 witnesses saw or heard the attack but wouldn't help. Had people become so indifferent, so cold? This was the big question debated across the country and around the world. Experts endlessly discussed the "bystander effect" and the "Genovese syndrome."

Later research suggested that a much smaller number were witnesses. It was the middle of the night, there was much confusion, and many people did hear shouts but couldn't confirm what was happening. Maybe it was a domestic dispute.

Still, the events were undeniably horrific. The killer stalked Kitty, stabbed her in the back, and left her to die because someone yelled at him. The victim shouted, "Oh, my God – he stabbed me! Help me!" The attacker returned ten minutes later, systematically searched the places where she might hide, found her, stabbed her some more, raped her, and stole $49. She died in an ambulance on the way to the hospital.

Three years ago, a second-grader couldn't do her math homework. The mother couldn't help her; it was Common Core homework, which baffles most adults. The girl struggled and struggled. Her mother, a professional photographer preparing her camera for the next day's work, took the picture seen around the country.

My take, for most of my life, is that most of the crying kids do at early ages should be responded to in some way, but also illustrate the utter narcissism that is at the root of the human condition.

Hmmm...I know math is tough but to compare it to the Kitty Genovese case which is so very debunked...

Actually, if you read the article, the comparison is to the bystanders in the Kitty Genovese case. The author is making the point that the educators and people in charge of education standards are like the bystanders, ignoring the needless pain and suffering of our children due to their horribly compromised support for common core and the state of k-12 education in general.

I agree———a very strange comparison, enough to prevent me from reading the article.

Well, of course, no such thing happened in the Genovese case - one of the strongest examples of fake news. But it is still a ridiculous comparison.

My settled opinion is that Educrats want to be the only experts - and will do anything to prevent parents from being in charge of their children’s education. Especially they will diddle with what is taught as “math” for the purpose of preventing parents from understanding the lingo.

When my Sons were tiny and started crying (In public or not), I had this habit of acting like a silly goofball to change that crying into giggles.

They’re 14 and 17 now.
Nope....Doesn’t work anymore.
Now I just throw cats at them.

Common Core is a travesty. The State of Texas has forbidden its use in the public schools, but it still comes in through the side door in the form of reference materials that get passed out to kids by clueless liberal teachers. I despise it and make a stink when I see it.

I remember the Kitty Genovese case very well - I remember reading all about it when I was almost out of high school. I was stunned that out of all of those people that heard her screaming, no one came to her aid.

I remember resolving never to fail to go to the aid of anyone who needed help and it was the primary reason I joined the Marines to fight in Vietnam.

I have rescued people from fires, car wrecks, heart attacks, criminal attacks, earthquakes and even once rescued an LA cop who was losing a fight with a criminal. Every man has that obligation - but lately we have forgotten that or just found new excuses to coward out like Kitty's neighbors..

It should be shocking that anyone with any sense would even think of putting young women into combat - but given the overwhelming lack of manhood out there, I guess we're running out of choices.

Common Core is an assault on our children, our families & America’s future. Far worse in impact than one woman’s horrible death.
Return education to the states & communities and reduce the footprint of DOE 90%. It’s for the children, for our families & for America.

There are three simple fixes for this problem;

Home school,
Private school,
Vouchers from the Education Department for each child.

The public school system can go to...
Sorry, it is already there.

The comparison is a bit of an extreme stretch and it would have been a better comparison if the example was a child in an abuse situation (where other adults knew and said nothing). Still extreme but yes... anyone with young kids doing Common Core math has seen it (probably at their own kitchen table). A child that WANTS to learn and WANTS to succeed will get to the point of frustration that results in tears. Not because they are a brat or spoiled but because they begin to doubt their own intelligence. As a parent, you begin to question yourself as well.. why in the he** can’t I figure it out either? Fortunately for baby number 3.. I was “trained” to try to figure it out and if not... exclaim it wasn’t my daughters fault and then write a note attached to the homework paper.

Not that it’s the point of the article, but you’ll see alot of that claim was debunked. There were not just a bunch of onlookers ignoring her. Which makes sense in the middle of the night.

Bingo! And bust the public pension fiasco. When teachers are no longer needed due to reduced attendance, fire their a$$e$. No union reps, no admin leave, etc., etc., etc.

Then you have to consider the poor young kid was a cancer victim/survivor.
