Morning Joe: “Cynical Politics” Behind Dem Ousting of Al Franken
FinkelBlog ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 12/07/2017 5:07:51 AM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

The likes of Kirsten Gillibrand parade themselves as paragons of avenging feminist virtue in calling on Sen. Al Franken to resign. But the Morning Joe crew sees another motive behind the Democrat’s move to force Franken out: “cynical politics.”

Mika Brzezinski, Joe Scarborough, and Willie Geist all made similar points: the move to defenestrate Franken is really about Democrats trying to give themselves the high ground on the issue of sexual misconduct. The Dems’ real target is Roy Moore.

If they think that getting Franken and Conyers to resign over deeds they DID will cause Roy Moore to resign over something HE DID NOT DO, they are more insane than I thought.

Completely. Freaking. Insane.

If the Democrat Jones wins the Senate election in Alabama, it would be at best by a narrow margin, That leads to another dilemma; this will be an expensive seat for the Democrats to hold in 2020 in a state that has been reliably Republican in this century. Alabama, unlike the South Atlantic states, has not experienced a leftward drift in the larger cities due to an influx of Northeasterners. One Democrat in an Alabama Senate seat would be a vote for impeachment, but even if the Democrats re-take the Senate, at best it would be by a 2-3 vote margin. Not enough for a successful impeachment, unless 13-14 Republicans defect. That may happen, but it is more likely that the Democrats will draw out impeachment proceedings in 2019 if Schumer becomes majority leader.

My guess is that the underage sex scandal accusations have played out for Moore and the Democrats are moving on to the bigger target: impugning Trump sufficiently to make his 2020 try for a second term a non-starter.

“Every GOP candidate in 2018 will be defined as being part of the Roy Moore party.”

There are only questionable 40 year old accusations against Moore, who has run in, and won several elections. This is different from the others in that there is hard, tangible evidence on the others that include photographs, confessions, bribes, and historical patterns of behavior. If the Left thinks they can regain any moral high ground here, they are mistaken. We know who you really are.

A blind man can see what dems are up. Throw all dem sex perverts under the bus, then demand that Roy Moore be kicked out of the senate, then impeach President Trump on sex allegations or any other lie they can come up with. Then run a ticket of Kamala Harris and some lesbian in 2020. The reason? All men are sex predators and can no longer be trusted,

It’s ALL a lead up to trying to take down Trump this way next year.

Hopefully, by next year, the public will be so saturated with #Metoo allegations, that they will just be immune and turn a deaf ear.

Let me see if I've got this straight.

The democRATS are trying to gain the "moral high ground", not by dumping their colleagues because these men have admitted to serial sexual misconduct, but because the moral high ground to them, comes with going after the Republicans in Alabama?

Maybe I am so out of touch that I don't know what sexual misconduct is to the democRATS. They used to promote free love when I was young. Now it's not so "free" when their guys get caught with their hands in the "kitty".

Especially since their moral high ground seems to be unfairly branding the judge as a pedophile and a child molester so they can keep him from getting elected. Disappointingly, the GOPe's moral high ground seems to be the same. Keep Moore out of the senate.

Political hypocrites. Both sides of the aisle. The whole bunch.

And don't get me started on this phony Joe and Mika moral high ground. These two have been screwing around on their spouses long before getting divorced and marrying each other. Joe's sold his soul to the devil living with that woman.

Dems are doing nothing more than trolling for martyrs for “the cause” in order to position their attacks against Trump. They’ll sacrifice anyone for anything.

I’m already there :)

Rape, sexual assault (of which pinching a butt isn’t to me, though it could be harassment) and ANYTHING involving children grab my outrage.

He said, she said without knowing the context, i.e. a pinched butt, a crude joke, a “you look sexy today”, I wouldn’t do it but they dont inspire outrage in me.

There was a gal at my job in Manhattan who would jump on my lap a lot and say some, er, interesting things.

What if I pinched her a week later without the prior context known?

I think crying wolf damages the real cases.

DU poster, in a defense of Senator Franken's monster, admits that Governor Clinton groped her:

I have been harassed, groped, and raped.
"Governor Clinton groped my ass in 1988 when he helped balance me after I speared his shoe with my stiletto heel and stumbled. He was simply standing in an aisle waiting to go up to the podium, when I turned to walk out of the auditorium to go to the bathroom. I apologized for hurting him, he had yelped in pain after all. He steadied me, patted me on the butt, and said, "there you go young lady." Sum total of the encounter. Inappropriate? Yeah. Was I traumatized? No."

Yep - but they are overplaying their hand - by the time they are done, if you ever smiled at a pretty girl in your life or laughed at a risque joke, you will be labeled scum and not fit to serve - to get around that little snag, they will tell us they are all clones of Jesus and therefore pure and fit.....

Way way over playing their hand. It has not been the topic of conversation anywhere I’ve been. Work or socially. Inappropriate and illegal have vastly different meanings and should have vastly different outcomes

“Getting” Roy Moore will simply outrage the people of Alabama, as a bunch of corrupt, self-serving Swamp Monsters (a lot of them Yankees) will have nullified their vote.

They’ll go out and elect someone the Swamp likes even LESS than Moore.

Not to mention the mores of the times when the "bad things" supposedly happened.

The only reason they are booting Franken is the 2018 narrative... I don’t think using Moore will help them but it’s clear that’s their strategy. Whether frankens staff likes him or not has nothing to do with the party kicking him out...

This is all about the 2018 narrative. If that wasn’t the reason they would keep and circle the wagons around him...

Well, that opinion is now jelling into cement. I have a different opinion. It’s not that I disagree so much as I feel there are several reasons.

Also, as Rush is saying, he doesn’t even think Franken is going to resign.
