Morning Joe: “Cynical Politics” Behind Dem Ousting of Al Franken
FinkelBlog ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 12/07/2017 5:07:51 AM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

The likes of Kirsten Gillibrand parade themselves as paragons of avenging feminist virtue in calling on Sen. Al Franken to resign. But the Morning Joe crew sees another motive behind the Democrat’s move to force Franken out: “cynical politics.”

Mika Brzezinski, Joe Scarborough, and Willie Geist all made similar points: the move to defenestrate Franken is really about Democrats trying to give themselves the high ground on the issue of sexual misconduct. The Dems’ real target is Roy Moore.

Getting Moore will do them no good. He’ll be replaced by another Republican. Trump is the target.

It is going to be a long year for Republicans.

So say the pearl clutchers.

Us Trumpians can hardly wait until the new year, it's going to be another exciting political year of winning for the American people.

I don’t know that this strategy is going to work for the DIMS.

There are still a lot of skeletons poised to slip out of their closet—BJ Clintoon’s multiple trips to Pedophile Island, as an example—not to mention their near-term goal of normalizing paedophilia.

But it’s only the best of intentions they have for going after Trump.

Duh, even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while...

They are right, if Moore wasn’t about to win easily in AL, they would be rallying to defend Senator Laughingstock...

Instead they believe they can hang the allegations against Moore around every Republican running in 18 and win with it....

I don’t think its going to work, but no doubt that is the plan and that is why Franken must go... if he doesn’t the counter argument will simply be.. yea right, look at Franken....

The problem with this scenario is, Hillary and Bill aren’t going anywhere, and while they may not be actively serving anymore, you better believe, Bill Clinton is a Rapist and the Entire Democrat machine made sure he didn’t face the consequences for it... so they have ZERO credibility on the issue, at least with anyone over 30.

I think that is the plan, but it will backfire because Steve Bannon has sex dirt on WAAAAAY more Democrats than Franken.

A pack of self import demodummie a-holes, throwing Franken to the sharks for the purpose of elevating their own unstable futures, theu helping “Drain the swamp” with the help of those fools.

Nope, see 46, this isn’t about balancing the scales for race quotas.. this is about the narrative they want for 18 election.... Any Dem accused of this sort of thing will be purged quickly because they think they can tie Moore around ever Republican running on this issue.. anyone on their side facing similiar issues must go in order to get rid of the counter argument, well look at X..

Problem is they sold their souls on this issue back in the late 90s when they defending the Rapist and serial abuser Bill Clinton... yes he’s no longer in power, but what about the Clinton’s? Counters all these narratives, for anyone over 30 anyway,

I LOVE that Trump fights back brutally and with the right fighters.

Would have Loved to see Rudy as AG but he didn’t want the job.

So many conflicting stories on what Sessions is or isn’t doing on here that I’ve yet to decide on him.

The problem for the MSM is that there are plenty more skeletons in the Congressional closet.

“Me Too” is energized now—watch out—incoming!

Yes, Joe Scarborough does have an unresolved issue with a dead intern but he has a point here.

Things have gotten to the point that the Dems are now willing to take some casualties, particularly Franken, whom even they despise for obvious reasons, but also Conyers, and who else?

Oh yeah Weinstein, Lauer, I'm sure there are more. As others have said they're trying to get the moral high ground to give it another try with Roy Moore and also with Trump.

(Do you know that Trump used to hit on women and ask them if they wanted to go for a ride in his helicopter?) /s

The stakes are high: The Supreme Court and the rest of the Federal Judiciary, and how the Constitution is going to be interpreted for years to come.

It is about politics. Otherwise they would continue to suffer Al Franken among them because he's one of them. They're nothing if not loyal to their own, except when the stakes are this high. In which case they start coming up with expendables like Franken, and even Conyers too. (Be careful, Nancy, that's dangerous...)

They'll be happier trading Franken away for another Democrat to be appointed by the Governor anyway... for obvious reasons.

(Which begs the question, what will they NOT resort to, to get their way?

I wouldn't know. Just axin'.)

Whatever they believe they can get away with.

That number is shrinking, shrinking... as the establishment media has less and less ability to cover up and spike stories...

First of all, it is entirely possible to have two reasons for the elimination of Franken, ok? (Three because his staffers loathe him as do certain other senators.) And certainly the Dems have heard from their black voters about Conyers. They don’t need those people sitting home in ‘18.

And they will certainly start in on Moore. But who cares except a few highly nervous freepers and establishment Republicans?

The Dem’s real target is Roy Moore.

Nope, the real target is Donald Trump.
Always has been, always will be.

Their target was Roy Moore and any other Republican, yet these things keep backfiring on them.

I don’t think the Dems will gain a seat if they “get” Moore.

The Governor of Alabama is a Republican.

Dems are, as usual, overplaying their hands if Pres. Trump is their endgame.
All of the dominoes (Conyers, Franken, Weinstein, etc.) have basically ADMITTED their guilt either by half-azzed, ambiguous apologies or by resigning.
Moore and Pres. Trump have flat out DENIED any wrongdoing and will fight.

This isn’t about gaining a seat, this is about using Moore as a lighting rod in other races... has nothing to do with gaining the seat in Alabama.. just like Franken resigning won’t likely end up in an MN pickup.

Every GOP candidate in 2018 will be defined as being part of the Roy Moore party.

I have my doubts, though you may be correct that Democrats will try.

The thing is, all politics is local, as they say. A Republican House member who held the seat for years will not suddenly be seen as a sexual predator by his district. In the Senate where the whole state votes, Democrats have to defend 25 out of 33 seats.

Of the eight Republican Senate seats, we have the following:
