Michael Bloomberg just made Virginia's governor race a referendum on gun control

Michael Bloomberg is hoping to ride to the rescue of Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam two weeks ahead of the Virginia governor's race.

Everytown for Gun Safety, one the foremost gun control groups in America that is bankrolled by the former New York City mayor, will drop another $400,000 in the election after an earlier $1 million commitment, the Washington Post reports. That makes the race very much a referendum on gun control.

October Week 2 | Campfire Watch Full Screen While the Bloomberg cash could rile up the Democratic base and bring Northam victory, it could just as easily backfire and deliver a win for Republican Ed Gillespie. Without new voters to win over, the race is about getting reliable voters to the polls.

Right now the race is all tied up, and Gillespie has the momentum. While polling from Monmouth University has the race deadlocked at 48 percent to 47 percent, the Republican is surging in more conservative, rural Virginia and gaining ground in Northam's home region of Eastern Virginia.

The Bloomberg money hinges on a simple calculation: Gun control will hopefully motivate the Left more than the Right. "If the Democrats can get their base out," Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmouth University Polling Institute, tells me, "they can win."

That move also smacks of a certain desperation. Northam is cleaning up in wealthy, liberal, elite Northern Virginia but losing momentum in Central and Eastern Virginia.

Hopefully, they’ll vote to protect gun rights.

Everyone who is saying it does not matter who wins, it is time to reconsider. The gun grabbers have big plans for Virginia, and their “successes” there will sooner or later be tried in other states and nationally. Wake up.

A win will embolden them to ramp it up going into the 2018 midterms.

Lot of those people are operatives hoping to depress the Republican vote. Thankfully most people are too smart to fall for it and want the person who will keep their hands off the guns and the wallets.

I hope every gun owner in Virginia will vote for Gillespie to protect our most fundamental freedom. As a candidate, Gillespie is not perfect, but as a God-given right, the Second Amendment is perfect.

It’s a lot easier to go to work for the federal government in any capacity than it is to do 20 years in the military.

I'll believe it when I see it, give Va's history in recent eelctions. People who lean left have a difficult time moving back to the center. Most buy into the DEM narrative when voting. At best, they'll avoid an election.

Bloomberg just got handed his *ss in Cook County Illinois with voters successfully demanding the repeal of his pet soda tax.

VA can deal the perfidious SOB another blow. Go back to your hobbit cave, Mikey.

The NRA is running more anti northam ads than Gillespie. B’burg is late to the party.

I think it’s more of a referendum on the statues.

Once upon a time, back in the George Allen era, most Virginians would have been insulted by the mere thought of such a Yankee carpetbagger coming to Virginia and try to influence anything. Nowadays, it’s hard to know. Seems like many are okay with it.
