Gun control laws are pointless, and here's all you need to know about that: From the early 1990s until 2016, guns in circulation in the U.S. just about doubled, while violent crime was just about cut in half.
Worse (for the gun grabbers), gun control laws often lead to outcomes the gun grabbers never intended:
In that post AWB [the Bill Clinton-era "Assault Weapon Ban"] world, you could still buy a GLOCK or a Beretta, but why would you? Unless you had a source of pre-ban magazines you felt screwed and cheated. Why carry a full size pistol that could hold 15 to 17 rounds of 9x19mm when by law you were limited to 10 rounds max?
All of a sudden the 1911 became popular again. It was a full size pistol that all of a sudden was slim and carried a cartridge with more knock down power. Eight rounds of .45 didnt look bad compared to 10 rounds of 9×19. In that post-1994 market, everyone and their brother began cranking out 1911s.

I’ve always thought Bubba contributed to the popularity of the AR-15. With the ban on ‘assault features’, came the rise of stripped down AR-15s that could be added onto....and now there are hundreds of ways to customize it, adding to its popularity.
My concealed carry is a Taurus PT745 Millennium Pro .45 ACP w/two magazines.

>>Ok you and are going to have a duel at 50 paces. There are two single shot pistols to choose from; a .45 ACP and a 9x19 mm parabellum. Ill let you pick first. Which do you choose?
That’s an absurd extreme. Combat isn’t a duel. 80% of all shots fired in handgun fights miss and the range is typically less than 10 paces. The guns used hold more than one shot.
The combat power of handguns is a combination of ergonomics, recoil, capacity. In the civilian context, you have to add in ease of carry because the awesome man stopper at home is less effective than the pocket gun in my hand.
So let’s change your scenario. You and I go to a crowded mall in august. I start at Penneys and you start at Belks. We each have to walk through 300 yards of crowds until we meet somewhere in the middle. How are you concealing your 1911 so no one detects it and then once the gunfight starts, how accurate are you under pressure when we are both moving to and from cover?
I’m carrying 13 round of 9mm in a gun that is smaller and lighter than yours and, as I showed, the muzzle energies of our respective rounds are both capable of a one- shot stop. Mine fits comfortably in an UrbanCarry holster so it is 100% concealed even in shorts and a t-shirt. My spare 13 round mag is in a pocket of my cargo shorts.
No, I won't let you. Answer my question first.
If you refuse to answer I will assume you will pick the .45 because you are probably not stupid.
Ah, but you’re forgetting the mighty thunder called down from heaven whenever a 1911 is drawn from its scabbard!
It won WW2, the big one, doncha know!
;-)
The concept that gives them problems is the existence of other people who make independent decisions in their own interest.
>>If you refuse to answer I will assume you will pick the .45 because you are probably not stupid.
A one shot duel at 50 yards, I’d choose 9mm. I doubt anyone ever fought a duel at 50 yards before.
Now, let’s talk about real-life.
>>Ah, but youre forgetting the mighty thunder called down from heaven whenever a 1911 is drawn from its scabbard!

Yeah. It’s so powerful that I knew a guy who saw a guy who was there then another guy fired a 1911 in the Army and the recoil RIPPED HIS ARM OFF!
I carry a 10mm automatic and I laugh at your .45 vs 9mm debate. hahaha
My 10mm will not just kill you, it will kill you and your soul.
I agree with that! 10mm makes them all seem weak. How do you carry your 10mm everyday? My Glock 20 is just too darn big to carry without a man-purse. So I have to carry my much smaller Sig P250 subcompact instead. :-(
If I manage to miss with all 11 rounds I can still beat you to death with it. :)
Bah! The 1911 never went away. It has been the most popular handgun in America since at least the Great Depression. Gun loonies push all manner of tupperware guns, but the 1911 has remained a favorite through it all. I prefer the Sig P220 but I certainly see the love for the 1911.
It is the Porsche 911 of guns — antiquated and yet the best ever, both at the same time.
I carry a Glock 20sf all the time in an Aker flatsider OWB belt holster which also fits my Glock 21, my Glock 30, and my Glock 29. I wear a shirt that is a size too big over it and that keeps it hidden well enough. It even has an extended/threaded barrel. I do carry a Glock 29 more in the summer though. It’s plenty of firepower and easier to carry. I also have an Aker shoulder rig that will fit any of the above pistols which I like to use in the non-summer months.
Yeah, and when you parse out the meaning of those disjointed ululations, you get something like, "It ain't fascism when WE do it!"
Nice rig. I just can’t risk the OWB/oversized shirt combo. Do you have a badge to protect you from snoopy cops?
speaking of .45 acp, I just took this to the range yesterday and tore up some X rings:

Open carry is legal here in Ohio. I flat out refuse to care if someone can tell I’m carrying or not. Like I say though, I carry the Glock29 more in the summer. I’m becoming increasingly fond of it. it just got its first night sites in fact. ;) I like the bigger platform but the smaller version is plenty of gun.
I used to carry a 10mm.
But then I got my blood pressure under control, got off the pills, and my ED went away. ;-)
We have a lot of cops here who aren’t really gun people, so they see a hint of gun and they get scared and dangerous real quick. I also refuse to see “No guns” signs so casual concealment is problematic. You need to be deep concealment around these parts.
Unfortunately, Florida is not open-carry. If we ever get open carry, I’ll be wearing the same Akers flatsider as you year-round.
