>>The point of the article is partially valid. When people had to choose between 8 rounds of 45 versus 10 rounds of 9mm, the 45 started looking pretty good. But compared to 15 rounds of 9mm? Well...a lot will STILL carry a 45. That’s fine.

The 10 years of the Clinton hi-cap “ban” did more to create the easily concealed 9mm and 380s than it did to revitalize the 45. The 1911 has its loyal followers (of which I am one), but not as a carry gun for the growing concealed carry movement of 1994-present.

But the reality of then, where your likely attacker was a criminal who just wanted an easy score, is not the reality of today, where you could find yourself facing multiple jihadis or gangs of feral “youths”. Suddenly, the low capacity, regardless of individual stopping power, of a 45 is less desirable than 13-15 chances to stop multiple attackers with your small, but potent 9mm subcompact double-stack.

The only time I ever had to draw my concealed weapon was in 1993 and it was a S&W Bodyguard. The robber fled. I still have the Bodyguard.

definitely understandable. I have a J frame .357 for deep concealment.

Well, I was more into Seventrees back in those days, though I had a ASP rig made for a near-stock S&W M39 with clear ASP-ish grips on it. I made the mistake of letting it go with the gun in a trade on something else, which may not have been all that bad a deal since she has to keep me in breakfast pancakes for the rest of my life.

I do still have my uncle Denny's USSS DeSantis Uzi rig, made for one of the full-size guns instead of the chopped-barrel Samsonite briefcase versions.

Nice. My other Glock 21 is a 460 Rowland. That’s a fun time. I’m getting a 200 grain Hornady XTP up to ~1425 fps. That’s 902 ft/lbs which is, curiously, twice the energy of the two .45 loads I was shooting yesterday and those were pretty much as stout as you can get and still be a 45 acp. It’s all just for S&Gs though. 10mm is as much as I would want to carry for self defense. I think it’s an ideal balance between magazine capacity and muzzle energy.

Were I ever to be limited to one handgun I’d go with the Glock 20 in 10mm as Guncrafters 50GI conversion kit fits the 20 and 21. Not sure if anyone makes a .22 rimfire conversion for the 20/21 variants. Would be a good system, 10mm, 50GI and .22 rimfire.

The Advantage Arms .22 conversion system works with the large-frame 10mm Glocks, and Glockmeister stocks them.Or does sometimes; they're out of stock RTI, at around $300.00.

And, by the way, the Mech-Tech .45 ACP *carbine kit* for the large frame Glock can be used as a conversion to let you run .45 through a Glock 20...which a pal of mine does, 27-round extension magazines not being available in 10mm, but quite common in .45acp.

Not an UZI fan .....had a chance to cook as many rounds through one as I wanted behind the fence at Aberdeen and just wasn’t pleased with it. I was spoiled as my bag gun at the time was an MP5SDA3 using 147gr OSM. Had use of SW76’s, MAC-10’s or Swedish K’s but loved the MP5’s , PSG-1’s and Hk 21’s. Hk snob per se....... got over it when I had to buy my own toys. Did recently snag a VP-9. Like it good shooter.

I think Ken Null bought Seventrees and still makes same holsters ..... carry a Ken Null rig with a SW37 sometimes. Very good holsters.

“is not the reality of today, where you could find yourself facing multiple jihadis or gangs of feral “youths”.”

Depends on where one lives. Going to the hardware store here at 10 AM, the feral yutes and multiple jihadis are not much of a threat. Going to a bar or nightclub or movie, particularly in a larger town or city, maybe.

I also think that if 6 determined attackers attack you, you won’t have TIME to stop more than one or two, tops. I don’t care how much ammo I have. If a bunch of determined guys decide to take me out...I’ll be killed. My goal is to make sure I don’t die alone.

If I could figure out how to conceal it, my Beretta 92 would accompany me. As it is, with temps at 100 degrees or more most days...a J-frame or even an LCP tends to be my choice.

Not knocking anyone else’s choice. If someone can conceal more, great! But for where I live and where I go, and how I’m willing to dress...the 92 stays at home most days.

I shot more than a few buzzguns before I went into the Army, then spent some serious time with an M1A1 Thompson, and in Armor training and thereafter spent an awful lot of time with the M3 and M3A1 greasegun, which I'm still fond of despite its faults. But in Germany the German tankers had just adopted the Uzi,[MP2] heavier than an M16A1 but handier, and with a better designed magazine than the M3/A1. The MP5 was just out [Project 64 to the H&K factory] and the first magazines were the straight ones that mostly liked ball ammo, then the aluminum ones that bent/creased/dented a bit too easily, then finally the curved ones. I liked the Walther MPL and MPK, but you need a glove on your nonfiring hand for the things- there's no handguard but stamped sheet metal, and it gets hot.

I had a M45b *K-gun* for almost two decades, and it's still right where I left it, and I could well go back for it and the 20 magazines with it. Used an M-10 Ingram in .45 when I was working in the armored car business making pharmaceutical deliveries in a chase car, and the Ingram fit in the glove box okay. Milady is fond of the Sten, of all things, and is shopping around for a C&R papered one.

I think Ken Null bought Seventrees and still makes same holsters ..... carry a Ken Null rig with a SW37 sometimes. Very good holsters.

Null is indeed still making some of the old *NY Seventrees* holsters, if not the entire line. I almost got one for my 2" M10 S&W, but went with one of Andy Aratoonian's horsehide rigs instead. He's now 82 and has been diagnosed with Parkinsons, so it's unlikely he'll be making many more holsters, so I'm quite happy that I got one when I did.

I have a 500 magnum but it’s too painful to shoot. pretty sure it put some micro-fractures in my wrist. Took me about a month before my wrist was right. I got some jackhammer gloves for it but I still don’t break it out that much. The 460 Rowland is actually pretty easy to shoot since it’s semi-auto and plastic and has a wide back strap area.

That was pretty much my attitude until I hit the husband/father/family provider stage, and I no longer had the freedom to choose a ride to Valhalla or Fiddler's Green along with a surprised attacker...or two...or ten with me. The wife and kid had to eat, I had to protect them AND provide.

Now my kid wears that hat, and he wears it well. My cats like it when I feed them, but I have to go down swinging in a pile of brass, I'm now again free to do so. I'd rather not, of course, but I'm too beat up to run away very fast, and not inclined to go hand-to-hand with teenagers or ex-prison weightlifters.

And I still have a tank gunner's attitude. Driver, move out. Run over 'em, and make sure.

If I could figure out how to conceal it, my Beretta 92 would accompany me. As it is, with temps at 100 degrees or more most days...a J-frame or even an LCP tends to be my choice.

And, of course, if things just seem...antsy one day, you can carry both, if it's not too warm. Or carry the little one on body/IWB/Pocket, and the 92 with a long magazine in your computer bag/lunchbucket/ map case.

“I’m often awed that liberals seem to have no concept of math.” Exactly right. liberals do not understand dynamic scoring and don’t accept it when it is explained to them.

If I have to die with a horde of ferals piling on and my slide locked back, I don’t want my last thought to be “I wish had been carrying more than 8 rounds of ammo”. I live in Florida and a Glock 26 or Sig P250 sub are almost as easy to conceal as an LCP or J-frame. But there are days when I don’t even want that much weight, so I go with the P290.

Because, the first rule of gunfighting is to have a gun! We all agree on that.

Yeah mine hurts as well ..... know of what you speak as “Arthur” barks at me later for weeks when I go plink with it. Also a monumental exercise for my mid 60’s old bones is a 329PD in 44 mag...... ouch ouch ouch. But I do carry it when wheeling in the CO/NM elevations.
