Even “The Rock” Couldn’t Prevent The Worst Memorial Day Weekend t US Cinemas In Nearly 20 Years
Quartz ^ | 05/30/17 | Ashley Rodriguez

Memorial Day revenue at the domestic box office falls to its lowest level in nearly two decades; overseas, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales’ makes up ground with a $208.4 million launch.

Memorial Day weekend was no picnic this year for Hollywood at the domestic box office.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales may have won the holiday frame with a four-day haul of $77 million from 4,276 theaters, but it is the lowest start for any Pirates movie outside of the first film. It did make up ground overseas, where it found plenty of treasure with a $208.4 million launch.

Thanks for the links but I think my question was show me where he supported Hillary Clinton. The only statement I could find was this one:

In a recent statement posted to Instagram, Johnson said he “welcomes” comments from fans who both support Trump and oppose him, but he felt that Plank was “divisive” in his comments.

Where did he say he supported Hillary Clinton? I've had many arguments with friends who voted for Trump but who expressed the same statements about Trump's outspoken comments.

I'm confused........

With the advent of feral ghetto people who make the cinema experience not just unpleasant but downright dangerous, home theater equipment is a growth industry.

I refuse to subject my family to the danger of ghetto people.

I think the MI flicks were decent entertainment. Considering Cruise does his own stunts and the story lines are decent action and plot, I like them.

It’s also no coincidence that 4K HDTVs were the hottest selling item this past Christmas season.

They're practically giving them away. Three years ago I bought a 65" Samsung 4K. I spent $2400. They're going for under a grand these days and you can get lesser brands (which still have the same parts inside) for even cheaper.

I bet liberal Hollywood is confused by someone like her. They can't really go after her without coming off anti-Semitic.

I'm sure Hollywood executives are wishing they had known how disrespectful Gadot would be towards the kind and gentle people of Hamas before they signed her to a multi-film contract.

Why would grown adults want to watch Baywatch? I mean, didn't we all make it through Junior High once already?

My sense of humor has moved on.

" It’s also no coincidence that 4K HDTVs were the hottest selling item this past Christmas season."

We just upgraded our 55" 1080p HDTV to a 4k OLED 55" (LG brand). We are stunned every time we turn it on. I could go on about the incredible contrast ratio (blacks ARE black - not dark grey) and the almost 3D depth, but I wouldn't know where to stop. I will say that when we watch a movie or program we've seen before, it's like seeing it for the first time because of additional details not seen before.

You have to see it to believe it and you still may not believe that you're not looking through a window.

I have the 65” LG OLED and feel the same. A more than worthy successor to my old plasma HDTV.

"I have the 65” LG OLED and feel the same. A more than worthy successor to my old plasma HDTV."

Aren't you just astounded every time you turn it on? While the plasmas had the best contrast ratio of the flat screens (LCD, LED), these OLED 4k are almost at the perceived resolution as film. The up-scaling from film or TV video sources is astounding.

I remember many actresses dismayed by early HD for showing every detail of their face that even makeup can't hide without special prosthetic appliances/makeup. With 4k, you can see every little facial fuzz and pours and blemishes. Bet they're pissed now.

Have you noticed an increased depth of field? We have. Depending on the source, it has a quasi 3D affect.

My only gripe is the dialog can get lost in the music or effects due to the LG speaker arrangement. If a movie, we simply turn the surround system on with its center speaker and turn down the TV. Wait, doesn't the 65" have a dedicated center speaker attached that fits below the screen?

I agree. The Rock is a liberal POS. I would pay to see Vin Diesel kick his arse.

What’s most impressive about the black levels is when watching different aspect ratios that require letterboxing or (for older films) pillarboxing. That always looked very artificial on other TVs. With OLED the masking is completely invisible as the boarders are true black (and razor sharp) and so just disappear completely, the same as in a real theater.

I have the B model which omits all the speakers as I have a separate 7.1 surround system that provides incredible realism thanks to the new Dolby Atmos standard. It’s a crime to pair such a superb picture with a so-so sound system.
