Even “The Rock” Couldn’t Prevent The Worst Memorial Day Weekend t US Cinemas In Nearly 20 Years
Quartz ^ | 05/30/17 | Ashley Rodriguez

Memorial Day revenue at the domestic box office falls to its lowest level in nearly two decades; overseas, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales’ makes up ground with a $208.4 million launch.

Memorial Day weekend was no picnic this year for Hollywood at the domestic box office.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales may have won the holiday frame with a four-day haul of $77 million from 4,276 theaters, but it is the lowest start for any Pirates movie outside of the first film. It did make up ground overseas, where it found plenty of treasure with a $208.4 million launch.

I haven’t gone to a movie in over 10 years.

I only go for the newsreels.

“Movies made from old TV show generally suck....................”

Ain’t that the truth. I’m hard pressed to think of many that were worth watching. Maybe a couple of the Mission Impossible movies

That's because Hollywood hates all the things that made the real Dukes of Hazard so enjoyable for its audience.

Considering that the Rock has come out as anti-Trump

No he hasn't. And don't even try to claim that he supported Hillary Clinton unless you can back it up with links........

Mission Impossible movies are just Tom Cruise vehicles for profit.

They completely miss the flavor and essence of the 60’s TV series.............

The Equalizer. Used to be one of my favorite TV shows.

He is NOT black and he’s NOT from Boston!

These days very few offerings warrant the expense and hassle of going to a movie theater.

Bingo. You nailed it.

Good for young dating age, I suppose, as a place to go.

But there are very few movies I want to watch on the big screen. At home I have my refrigerator, my bathroom, my beverages, silence, absence of mass murderers, subtitles, great sound, pause control, etc.

On the other hand the theater does have obnoxious guests, a snack bar where candy costs more than a restaurant entree, noise, unruly kids, and the play-by-play movie critic who always sits near you. Who would want to pass on all that?

Hollywood actors are either trying to revive their dead carrers and/or the younger ones simply do a crappy job of acting...and most have made it clear they’re fighting against our President.... Not to mention nobody writes a good script anymore.Couple this all together there’s simply nothing worth the price to see.....and I have no intentions of padding their nests!

21 Jump Street and Baywatch were just about as good quality wise, I think Baywatch just didn't hit the younger demographics correctly.

Instead of casting unknowns, they needed Emily whatever her name his from Entourage or more known stars for the female leads...who makes this pic without a Pam Anderson as a main character?

The Equalizer is a prime example of literally just taking the name of the TV and the name of the character and then making an entirely different movie out of it with no respect or even reference to the original show. There was literally nothing in that movie that had anything to do with the source material except the names.

"MI: Ghost Protocol" was pretty good. Stunts that made my stomach turn over, while watching it in the theater.

But yeah, the rest weren't classics.

Who wants to see endless remakes?

A few weeks ago I met my nephew in Griffith Park for a quick picnic lunch and I noticed a lot of activity at the Greek Theatre -- Warner Bros trucks and movie production tents, etc. I was informed they are remaking "A Star is Born", and I thought: really? Another one?

Actor, Wrestler Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Attacks Under Armour CEO for Trump Support

The Rock slams CEO of sponsor Under Armour for praising Trump, calling his words 'divisive and lacking in perspective'

If The Rock considers words praising Trump "divisive", then it's safe to say he's a Never-Trumper.

There is NO creativity in these productions or on Broadway for that matter. I won’t be surprised if we saw a remake of No No Nanette or Oklahoma. How about Our American Cousins? The imbeciles with fake college degrees wouldn’t realize the significance and it’s got to be in public domain so they could save of writer’s fees. UGH!

Wonder Woman will kill it, but since the SWJs are acting like its success will be the biggest victory for womyn since Hillary won the Presidency, I wish it would fail.

Just remind the SJWs who Gal Gadot is:

I just might go see Wonder Woman.

Get ready for remakes of All Quiet on the Western Front, The Wild Bunch, Death Wish, Scarface, Jacob's Ladder, Overboard, Zorro and Charlie's Angels (again), all coming soon.

Not to mention the all-female Ocean's Eleven remake and Splash with a merman.
