As of Saturday night, the unofficial elections results being reported by the State of Delaware Department of Elections indicated Stephanie Hansen has won the special election for the District 10 seat vacated by now-Lt. Governor Bethany Hall-Long.
With the win, Hansen, a Democrat, retains the party's majority control of the chamber and, in fact, the state. Delaware remains one of about five states where Democrats hold the legislature and the governor's seat.
Hansen declared shortly before 9 p.m. that she'd defeated Republican John Marino and Libertarian Joe Lanzendorfer on Twitter. Unofficial totals from the Department of Elections said she won by a percentage of 58.13 percent (7,314 votes) to 40.75 percent (5,127) to 1.12 percent (139), respectively, with 16 of 16 districts reporting 100 percent of the total vote count shortly before 9:30 p.m.
"We have said no to the politics of fear. We have said no to the politics of division--and we have said no to the politics of prejudice. That's what we have done, we have given a mandate," said Hansen.

Rep never had a chance. Delaware is a deep, DEEP blue State and is populated with people who live of the government and have done so for generations.
You don’t know Delaware.
The water there is as bad as Flint, Michigan and the LIVs drink it.
The same Republican ran in the race in 2014 and lost by two points so theoretically this seat should have been in play. This time he lost by 16. Yes, Delaware is a blue state but it would have been a nice pickup.
I am not so sure about that since had we won, we’d have majority rule in the state. Now Democrats keep it by 1 seat.
This win cost the Democrats $6-700K and featured TV appearances by Biden and other Libs but the real disappointment was the low turnout for an election that meant so much as far as controlling the tax increases now on the table.
We now will have another anti-Trump harpy shrilling her way thru the next 4 years.
Wouldn’t it be prudent for the Republicans and the Libertarians to unite when the cause is so great? I suspect the Libertarian didn’t get the 16% that the Republican would have needed, but Reps and Libers are really pretty close in ideology. And having watched Soros pump $2 million into the race to defeat Sheriff Joe, money and big guns DO have an effect.
The Libertarian party is much closer to the Democrat party and in some cases gets funding from them in tight races to play spoiler. They are very loud buffoons.
This is all Lanzendorfer’s fault.
Thanks to the liberfarian the republicans lost.
That particular district was winnable. The 2014 vote there was 6230 D (51%) - 5963 R (49%).
Hmm....it’s very rare for the turnout in a special election to be higher than that of the regular general election. The Dems did pour a lot into this district.
Besides California, Hawaii and Delaware, what other two states are Dem (CT Senate is split)?
Delaware is full of old time idiot democraps. This seat would have been a longshot.
It looks like Rhode Island and Oregon.
Just disappointing because we would have gotten control of the State Senate which would have been nice. We only lost the seat by 2 percent last time and this time we lost it by 16 points. Republicans didn’t turn out.
Another democrat dolt in Dullard-ware. Drove through there once...
Well the evil dems poured all their national money and resources to protect a seat that should have been considered safe, in a deep blue state. Thats really pathetic.
Even if all the Libertarian votes were shifted to the Republican it wouldn’t have made the race even close. The Democrats bought this one totally.
BTw, there are like 7k more dems in that district that Republicans.
True based on the election report, but many libertarians vote for democrats too.
