Judge Andrew Napolitano, writing in last weeks Washington Times, explained the meaning of Trumps very first executive order which was designed to destroy the teeth of Obamacare.
Waiting for confirmation the IRS won’t confiscate my refund this year since I make too much for free Obamacare and too little to afford $6000 for coverage formerly part of my pay package.
I love what Trump did, but you can see the trainwreck a’comin...
Anyone with an Obamacare-related issue with IRS should print off a copy of Trump’s EO and stapled it to their tax return and tell the IRS to follow the law.
Your job should be to avoid any tax refunds until this mess is sorted out. The IRS cannot force you to pay ACA penalties from sources other than refunds is my understanding.
Can you do that if you e-file? I like e-filing.
I learned a long time ago that you should always write a check on April 15th. You have a much healthier outlook on life.
Darn shame it couldn’t have been 1492.
So no ‘shared responsibility’ tax?
This information really needs to be repeated over and over. I watched a recent ememedia local news story telling its dumbed downed views that the 0-care deadline was approaching. When people called up the call center for 0-care info, the idiots answering the phone did not mention Trumps EO which states that there would be no IRS enforcement. Instead they anticipated that there would be no change in the law in 2017.
If enough people get the memo, the young and healthy will not sign up and 0-ccare will be dead in sprite of the rinos inaction.
Going forward, reduce the amount taken out of your paycheck. If you pay estimated taxes, always calculate it so that you pay a tiny amount when you file your taxes. After a while you’ll adjust to keeping your money instead of waiting for the dad burned gubmint to kindly give it back to you in the form of a refund. All perfectly legal. A lot of people use their tax planning as a very poor sort of investment and get all excited when they get a refund. I used to own a small business and business definitely picked up and bills were paid when tax time came around.
It seems to me that if you just be patient and wait until the last minute, or published confirmation, you have no worry.
“Your job should be to avoid any tax refunds until this mess is sorted out.”
You should NEVER allow yourself to get a “refund” on your taxes. Because if you do, you’ve given the IRS and your state tax authorities a low-interest loan of your money! And these morons who “loudly proclaim” they got a tax refund as if it’s somehow a good thing and it’s “free money” because the government sent them a check. Hey stupid, it’s your money and they are giving it back without any compensation after having held on to it for the better part of a year. Smart people always arrange their tax payments so that they are slightly less than their final obligation. And if you have a good investment, you may even be wise to not pay a lot of it and pay the penalty.
Gonna be some pissed off people who haven’t gotten a refund the past several years.
FWIW, I know someone who received an IRS Obamacare related nastygram just last month. The letter was sent out a week before Trump’s inauguration telling the recipient to sign up by the end of last month or pay the penalty.
Anyone else get one of these?
You can’t claim extra, illegal exemptions so it is VERY likely a refund is due if one works jobs .
Yes
Now I am confused because just helped my daughter with her taxes and the penalty was deducted from her refund.
YES...everyone in my household got one! We trashed them!
I wonder if 45 knows the IRS is ordering citizens to comply...?
If paying file on April 15,if getting refund file early was usually best but I am waiting because once IRS takes penalty money it is gone.Hoping penalty fully cancelled by April.
