Falling incomes turn California into modern-day Dust Bowl: Susan Shelley

Nearly 60 percent of California voters with children living at home agree with the statement, “my children will have a better future if they leave California.” More than 75 percent now think “earning enough income to enjoy a middle-class lifestyle is becoming almost impossible in my part of California.” In Los Angeles County, it’s 87 percent.

That’s from a new survey by the California Chamber of Commerce. And if you think those numbers are discouraging, the numbers in a just-released report from the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation are even worse.

The LAEDC projects that employment in L.A. County will grow by 334,000 jobs over the next five years, but don’t stop your children from leaving California for a better future quite yet. Only 5 percent of those jobs will require a bachelor’s degree, and less than 4 percent will require a master’s, doctoral or professional degree.

Over 70 percent of the estimated 334,000 new jobs in Los Angeles County will require a high school diploma or less. “The highest number of overall openings,” the study says, will be in “food preparation and serving,” “waitresses and waiters,” “cashiers and retail salespersons,” and “office clerks and customer service representatives.”

Smart people (like me hehe) are leaving in droves.

The only thing left will be Silicon Valley, automated fast food joints, the government, and 20 million people on welfare.

I’ve been to California a couple of dozen times, over the past 30 years.

Strictly business.

Finance ALWAYS audited my expense reports.

“$30 for BREAKFAST?”

Yep.

Americans should abandon the Socialist State of California.
They decided they would rather be a third world satellite of Mexico.

Not just falling incomes, but a stupid, shortsighted, spendthrift government coupled with repressive laws, rules, and regulations and a great deal of airy-fairy nonsense.

This is the ultimate fate of liberalism run amok - a West Coast Venezuela with great beaches.

Please, don’t move to Oregon; you’d feel happier in New York.

In the past three years, California has gone from 8th/10th GDP globally, to 6th.

What is this person smoking.

So, 70 percent are easily replaced by automation.

Californians - getting what they deserve and deserving what they get.

California has become a caricature of itself.

I've got a good paying job in CA and I'm looking at an out of state job with a 23k pay cut (well 11k after moving away from CA taxes) and I'm taking it. CA is dying under a wave of crime, high prices, insane regulation, and stupid leadership.

Anybody with a brain - looking from the outside in, knows that their economic model is not sustainable, no matter the emotional argument that somebody may make. Within 50 years, the USA will be left with a business unit within itself that cannot sustain itself - do we deal with the problem before it’s too late or, wait till it’s too late?

If millions of people leave who are not supposed to be here, rents and housing prices go down.

“$30 for BREAKFAST?”

Must have paid alot for location and service

For location, food, and nostalgia I recommend Orange County's Best Seafood Restaurant in Newport Beach for lunch and dinner at less than what you paid for breakfast. The Halibut is best and the Salmon is good if they run out of Halibut. Then you walk 0.2 miles to the Newport pier and walk along the boardwalk.
