CHICAGO Early voting in Illinois got off to a rocky start Monday, as votes being cast for Republican candidates were transformed into votes for Democrats.
Republican state representative candidate Jim Moynihan went to vote Monday at the Schaumburg Public Library.
I tried to cast a vote for myself and instead it cast the vote for my opponent, Moynihan said. You could imagine my surprise as the same thing happened with a number of races when I tried to vote for a Republican and the machine registered a vote for a Democrat.
The conservative website Illinois Review reported that While using a touch screen voting machine in Schaumburg, Moynihan voted for several races on the ballot, only to find that whenever he voted for a Republican candidate, the machine registered the vote for a Democrat in the same race. He notified the election judge at his polling place and demonstrated that it continued to cast a vote for the opposing candidates party. Moynihan was eventually allowed to vote for Republican candidates, including his own race.
Moynihan offered this gracious lesson to his followers on Twitter: Be careful when you vote in Illinois. Make sure you take the time to check your votes before submitting.
Cook County Board of Elections Deputy Communications Director Jim Scalzitti, told Illinois Watchdog, the machine was taken out of service and tested.
This was a calibration error of the touch-screen on the machine, Scalzitti said. When Mr. Moynihan used the touch-screen, it improperly assigned his votes due to improper calibration.

Obviously just an incident “computer error”. No malicious intent here/(massive dose of sarcasm).
Uh, why is this a surprise to anyone given it’s Illinois? Really?
Is there any record of a machine changing a vote from Democrat to Republican?
Improper calibration? That’s what they’re calling it now?
“Calibration error” is the new “The dog ate my homework”.
We’ll hear it frequently,I’m afraid.
Sadly, not at all a surprise.
Funny,my touchscreen phone never does that...or my paper ballot.
Does Donald Trump have a place to report this kind of thing?
How did a machine that even COULD misbehave like this get approved for voting purposes?
Thanks for posting yet another story on vote fraud. The media running with the lie that the election system is pure as the driven snow.
I’ve programmed touchscreens. This is not easy to do by accident. I call BS on the excuse.
Did the machine record a GOP vote when you hit the Democrat on the screen?
Didn’t think so...
Even if it WAS programmed incorrectly (which I doubt), it would (or should) have been caught in system testing.
This was no accident.
This is abysmal user interface design. Sounds like a wink and a nod went into designing this.
Yeah... this sounds a whole lot like a wink and a nod went into this.
The machine that counts your paper ballot might do it, but we will never know. Even the old fashioned lever voting machines were rigged in certain precincts.
I don’t Tweet, but Donald does-—maybe that would get his attention.
.
I've never heard of a single case with these machines of a vote for a Democrat accidentally being changed to a GOP vote.
You'd think that the law of averages would mean that such things would break 50/50. But instead we always hear how a GOP vote gets changed to Democrat...
The Revolution is ON!
Vote Trump!
“Is there any record of a machine changing a vote from Democrat to Republican?”
Maybe once in a blue moon!
I did find this:
“This is far from the first time such calibration errors have been reported. In one case in Illinois the Republican candidate’s own vote for himself was switched by the machine to a vote for his Democrat opponent.
“These errors have also been reported in prior election cycles, with the majority being switches from Republican to Democrat, although 2010 saw some Texas votes switched to the Green Party.” http://ijr.com/2014/10/193498-maryland-voting-machines-switching-republican-votes-to-democrat/
