A North Carolina state trooper shot dead a deaf and mute man who was apparently trying to communicate using sign language after he was pulled over for a speeding violation.
Daniel Kevin Harris, 29, a father to a four-year-old boy, was killed just feet from his home in Charlotte by trooper Jermaine Saunders on Thursday evening.
Police say Saunders tried to pull Harris over for a speeding violation on Interstate 485 at around 6.15pm, but the driver led authorities on a brief pursuit before stopping.
Officials said that's when the driver got out of his car and an encounter took place between the driver and the trooper, causing a shot to be fired. Harris died at the scene.
But witnesses said Harris – who was unarmed – was shot ‘almost immediately’ after he exited his vehicle, WCNC reports.

Do not exit your vehicle.
This stuff isn’t hard.
Dont drive deaf. Makes it hard to hear sirens.
Another senseless murder by a moron with a badge. They always shoot first then find out why things were they were after the citizen is dead Eff this Trooper, hope he goes in for a very long time, but I’m not holding my breath.

There was a brief story on ABC News tonight. Imagine if he was black.

Something wrong in this story. The guy was not blind and, if I recall my last traffic stop, the flashers come on to intimidate you into stopping.
And, when you stop, keep your hands on the top of the steering wheel, don’t get out of the car until the officer tells you otherwise

He was DEAF and obviously didn’t hear the siren. Pulled into his driveway, according to neighbors and the trooper killed him. He was white.

And the post cited in #8 says that during the pursuit, both cars sustained damage.
You flee the cops, you damage the cop’s car, and you exit the vehicle. You will be shot.
Not rocket science.
OHHH, OH. Jermaine Sanders? Was the cop Amish or a “brother”?

In the other thread, it was reported that both vehicles were damaged, and many were asking how that came to be, and suspected that much of the story is still missing....

SOunds like N.C. Troopers have not improved since I had run-ins with them in the early 79’s. A-holes then, everyone I encountered.
Was the man waving a weapon at the cop?
Was the man armed?
Did the man threaten the cop?
Was the man belligerent?
Was he high, drunk or otherwise?
Did the man charge after the cop?
Did the man take a swing at the cop?
Did the man go for the cops weapon?
No.
Exiting your vehicle, especially when you’re confused and not thinking straight is no grounds for summary execution.
And NO.....I am not anti cop...I am anti-idiot.

Deaf people claim that’s not a problem, and some have a device that will flash lights when a siren is activated. Also, how did the cars get damaged? Another article claims the deaf man’s car spun out of control to a stop, not pulling into his driveway.
AND, look at the time of day. Flashing lights might be almost invisible against certain orientations of the sun.
There ought to be “Driver is deaf” decals that are universally recognized by all emergency personnel. Why does no such thing exist to this day?
