A new poll shows Donald Trump dominating a state he's not necessarily supposed to win

A new poll released on Thursday found Donald Trump with a big lead in Oregon, a state not necessarily expected to be favorable to the Manhattan billionaire.

The poll, conducted by the Portland-based Hoffman Research Group, found Trump leading Ted Cruz, a Texas senator, by 17 points.

Trump, the GOP frontrunner, was the choice of 43% of respondents.

I just finished watching his last speech. I can’t believe anyone would not want to vote for everything this guy stands for. What do they disagree with? But the city about 40 miles north of me is a hotbed of liberalism that can only be described as mildly insane. It was the only place where Air America actually made a profit in advertising.

Yes, but Portland is so full of Democrats that they don’t count in the Primary. Trump will win the Republican vote in Oregon. Trump will lose the state in November.

I keep hoping my home state (Oregon) will turn back to a Republican state, but too many Californians moved up, so it’s a Dem state now. :-(

Yep, Californians and redistricting. The Democrats have basically taken over and use their power like a blunt instrument.

> What do they disagree with?

Some people can’t wrap their minds around voting for someone who isn’t a conservative social justice warrior.

But specifically? Putting America first. Keeping jobs here in America. Not supporting those who support radical Islam. Reducing the deficit. Supporting our long-time allies instead of making them new enemies. If he means half of what he says, he will make a better president than our current clown by about 100,000 times over.

Don’t be too sure. I think there’s something phenomenal going on here. I look at the contrast between Trump and Hillary and this could be completely different from anything we’ve seen in a long time. Trump has already gotten more total votes than Romney did in all 2012. A lot of those are new voters. You’ll see a lot of people who would never vote for a Republican politician will choose Donald over harsh, Crooked Hillary.

I’m glad to hear you say that. I hesitated for a moment before I typed that Trump would lose Oregon in November.... I don’t know if it was a gut instinct, a premonition, or just blind hope, but something made me hesitate, thinking maybe, just maybe, Trump would win Oregon in November. I agree with you that Trump isn’t typical, and Oregon has a lot of Bernie supporters. When Bernie gets shut out, and those Bernie supporters (who hate Hillary) are faced with the prospect of Trump or Hillary, maybe enough of them will vote for Trump that he can take Oregon. Typically though, the election has been called hours before the polls close in Oregon. But it will certainly be interesting to see if Oregon swings Red this year.

It’s not so much that people disagree on these issues, it’s the priority assigned to them.

Personally I think the right track is to prioritize the following three issues:

1) Bringing the southern border under control
2) Undoing the web of government and bad trade deals that make it difficult to conduct business in the US AKA “putting Americans back to work”
3) realign foreign policy to the national interest

Others will have completely different lists, of course. A list composed of sentiments expressed to me by those calling themselves Republicans or conservatives recently might be:

1) Stop abortion
2) Protect Israel and/or attack Iran
3) Keep transvestites out of public bathrooms

Now, I totally get why the latter list is, on principle, a valid one. But these are not things near and dear to the day-to-day experience of Americans which has been on a downtrend for decades, interrupted only by financial bubbles which in the end have left most much poorer and radically shrunk the middle class.

We absolutely should stop abortion, but there’s no way in hell it can happen in the current political environment. Trying to advance this issue through government at this time is poor strategy. There’s no popular support - not in the sense of the average Joe being motivated and angry about it.

Where the popular support is, is with the first list. That’s what the average person wants most right now, and that’s where the progress is to be made.

Once we have a nation of hard working Americans again, rather than one of immigrants, cheats and layabouts, at that time the political capital gained can then be used for other purposes. On the other issues, not enough people care to win an election on them. More work needs to be done in persuasion before legislation could be enacted and effective.

Truly, the call at this point in time is for the nation to get its very functional logistics in order. We do not have the luxury to pursue other goals right now. We spent the past two plus decades pursuing other goals and that’s what got us in this mess. The time now is to get focused on refocusing the government’s mission to the competent and proper fulfillment its most fundamental Constitutional duties.

I was debating anti-Trumpers on Facebook, and my observation was that they were almost entirely ignorant of everything he stands for, and seemed to believe everything they hear from the media uncritically. One guy, a Cruzer, took my reference to Cruz lying about his legalization position by telling me: “Oh, you mean the one where Boehner, Cruz’s text buddy, fooled Cruz into supporting the amnesty bill?” This dummy confused McConnell and the TPP issue with the gang of eight fight. Another individual, who claimed to not even like Cruz but to be “NeverTrump,” told me Trump was awful. When I asked her what made him awful, she explained it’s because he wants universal healthcare. Another person told me Trump isn’t a Christian, and I happened to know that that individual thinks people should be executed for blasphemy or sabbath keeping (this is not hyperbole). Another Cruzer I spoke with revealed he was pro-amnesty. And yet another explained that if Trump places tariffs on foreign companies, it’ll cause an economic collapse.

In each case, these people were either hardcore religious to the point of insanity, entirely ignorant about the issues, or simply stupid.

The primary election is for Republicans to determine which candidate best represents their interests. Whether a candidate has a chance of winning the state in the general election is largely irrelevant IMO and what’s more, the RNC has designed the system to increase and decrease the delegate influence of states based on how Republican they are so it all works out. That we have come to a point where California and Oregon even matter is what makes this the most interesting election I have ever seen. But here we are so California and Oregon get to decide our fate.

Yes I agree that the more social issues aren’t really the purview of federal government. Trump is certainly pro-Israel, however. And wants to do something about ISIS—namely eliminate them surgically. No one opposes this idea so what’s keeping Obama from doing it? That’s the question.

Associating the nation-state with the existence of our civilization was brilliant. It's been decades since anyone in national leadership has done that. They've all been bought, paid for and mind-melded with globalists. It's about our identities and individuality.

I don't know that it could've been done without someone as informed, intelligent, accomplished, and (yeah) outrageous as Trump. We're too far gone. Only shock therapy could bring the US and other other western nations back to sanity.

The other thing Trump is saying is he believes in US. And he listens to us. It's empowering.

JMHO

There are a lot of people in the US that don’t want to grow up and face the ugliness that this country is loaded with. Illegals, terrorism, it’s too ‘unpleasant’ for them to deal with and they want to ignore it and pretend it does not exist.

Trump in his own way is forcing Americans to face this and take responsibility for the direction their country is headed in. He’s making people see the ugly realities.

FReepers, it’s time to stop the arguing, fighting, vicious personal attacks, all the nastiness. and unite behind Donald.

Cruz is done. He has proven he’s sold his soul to the GOPe.

I understand how angry some of you must be, but we MUST unite, get behind the Republican nominee and all GET OUT AND VOTE.

Those who were so angry that their candidate did not win the nomination that they stayed home, voted third party or did a ‘write in’ are partly responsible for the muslim being elected a second time.

We CANNOT let this happen again.
We MUST get a Republican back in the White House.
We MUST.
As corrupt as the party is, it is better than the rat party.
The witch, Hillary, will continue on with Obama’s policies and finish destroying us.
The first thing she will do is take our guns.

Trump is a good man.

He is an AMERICAN who loves his country

He is owned by no one.

He has heard the voice of We The People and has stepped in to fight for us.

He is a brilliant businessman/CEO who CAN run this country AND GET THINGS DONE!

Although true he was once a Democrat-which he readily admits- so was Reagan. Everyone has a right to change their minds. We should not hold this against him

The most important thing right now is to stop the flood of criminal invaders across our border and stop the thousands and thousands of ‘immigrants’ (Muslim colonists/ jihadists) that Obama has flown in and distributed all across America in hopes of America being eventually under the rule of islam.

Texas alone has been the victim of almost 600,000 crimes by these criminal invaders.
(WHERE ARE YOU, GREGG ABBOTT. IT IS YOUR DUTY TO PROTECT US.
Why haven’t you done something about Obama’s giving orders for the border guards to stand down and not interfere with the flood of criminals (and future rat voters) over our Texas border?)

Donald WILL build the wall. He will surely run into lawsuits by rats, many roadblocks and delays- but in the meantime, he WILL stop the flood of criminals by putting enough guards on our borders.

He WILL secure our border.

OUR BORDER PATROL BELIEVE IN HIM.

He is the only presidential candidate EVER endorsed by them.

He will vet/investigate/deport the many dangerous muslims Obama has imported and distributed across America against our will- colonists/jihadists that he hopes will overthrow our government and claim this land for Islam, just as the Koran commands.
Donald understands and will PUT A STOP TO THIS INSANITY.
HE WILL NOT LET US BECOME ANOTHER EUROPE. COUNT ON IT!

And he CAN and WILL beat Hillary.
Donald is fearless and tireless.
He is aware of ALL her criminal activities- and not being PC crippled and spineless as our politicians are, he will DESTROY the witch.
NO WAY WOULD HE COME SO FAR AND LET HILLARY BEAT HIM.
COUNT ON IT!

Donald is the ONLY one who has proposed cutting aid to foreign countries and making them pay for our protection as a way to help reduce the 20 trillion dollar debt Obama has run up

He WILL make America great- and respected again.

COUNT ON IT!.
.

He canNOT win against Hillary!!!

I know this because the Indianapolis TV stations are carrying all kinds of ads telling me this!

They don't tell me who TO vote for; just who NOT to vote for!

Weird!
