Ben Carson, who just days ago dropped his lackluster Republican Party presidential bid amid languishing poll numbers and a disappearing profile, is leading in Florida polling by a wide margin, but in the contest for the Sunshine State's soon-to-be-open Senate seat. Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson speaks during CPAC 2016 March 4, 2016 in National Harbor, Maryland.
A new poll shows 56 percent of likely voters would choose Carson if he were to enter the state GOP primary for the job Sen. Marco Rubio plans to vacate. If Carson doesn't run in what's likely to be a crowded field, according to the poll, voters so far are backing Florida Rep. David Jolly, but far less enthusiastically: He polled at 18 percent, 38 points behind Carson.
After declaring his candidacy for president, Rubio said last year he'd leave the Senate, even if he didn't reach the White House. He's currently running a distant third in national polls for the GOP nomination behind billionaire businessman Donald Trump.
Carson, a retired neurosurgeon who lives in West Palm Beach, said on Twitter he was pleased with the Florida poll results, but not if he was considering entering the race.
I am so humbled by the 56 percent support in the News 13/Bay News 9 survey of Florida voters who still believe in me. God bless & thank you.

The filing deadline for the race to replace Rubio is June 24, and the primary vote is scheduled for Aug. 30.

Carson would make a fine Senator. He would definitely show up for more votes and committee meetings than the current occupant of that seat.
He’s got my vote!
I’ve always admired Carson. I just don’t think his personality is strong enough to be a leader of men.
He would gladly get my vote.
Carson for VP!
Sounds good to me.
I am good with this if he wants the seat.
There is already an outstanding conservative (Ron DeSantis) running for this seat who would be a solid supporter for the policies of President Trump (or, far less likely at this point, President Cruz). We should unite behind DeSantis instead of allowing a GOPe RINO to win the primary by splitting theconservative vote.
Given the whole foam party/funky midnight park arrest, I’d be careful using “Rubio’s seat” in a title.
Carson for Surgeon General!
You're just the type of person that Florida and the AMERICAN people need in the Senate.
I agree.
So what happens to those so-called concerns over Seventh Day cultist, pyramid scheme, pyramid store, and malpractice suits? Oh that’s right. Memory hole. Never happened!
By the way, I think he’d be a fine senator.
He would be an outstanding senator. Not one of the showboating twits we’ve become so used to. And he might even show up for work!
Not to mention a public restroom!
Yep, David Jolly is the GOPe step-and-fetch-it boy. His response to the VA scandal was to give them more money and expand the VA. Typical DEMOCRAT response. Now he wants to forbid the fedgov from doing any business with Apple until they cave to the FBI’s demand for a backdoor to Apple products.
Carson or DeSaints no to Jolly.
A good place for him to serve
And he wouldn’t sell his house for a $200k profit way over market price to a bag man then change his vote to favor his new friend.
Go Ben Carson.
