Donald Trump Just Publicly Embraced the WORST Part of Obamacare [VIDEO] [Ind. Mandate]

Donald Trump: “I like the mandate.”

Donald Trump has often promised to repeal the “disaster” that is Obamacare and he’s right, it is a disaster.

But at Thursday night’s CNN Republican Presidential Town Hall in South Carolina, Donald Trump embraced what is easily the worst part of Obamacare, the anti-free market “individual mandate” which forces Americans to buy only government-approved health care insurance, whether they want to or not.

To justify his support for the Obamacare mandate, Donald Trump uses leftist talking points of not wanting people to “die in the streets,” as if they has ever happened in America — before or after Obamacare.

Here’s how Donald Trump answered CNN’s Anderson Cooper last night (emphasis added):

DONALD TRUMP:Well, I like the mandate. OK. So here’s where I’m a little bit different. I don’t want people dying on the streets and I say this all the time. And I say this – look, I did five speeches, maybe six speeches today. We had a lot of rallies. We had of thousands and thousands of people. I mean, we get big crowds.

Allow me to break down the “logic” of this:

  1. Trump promises to get rid of Obamacare.
  2. Americans are, or have been “dying in the streets.”
  3. He wants to KEEP the worst part of Obamacare — the “mandate.”
  4. Don’t worry, folks, because he gets big crowds and standing ovations, just like Obama did with his worshipers in 2008, and that makes everything just swell.

How about you try reading, and thinking, for yourself for a change instead of just following what ever the campaign attack bot tell you to think?

Trumpers will do and ignore or pretend he didn’t say this.

Donald Trump is the Chauncey Gardener (of the movie Being There) candidate. People read in to him what they want him to be. Just how many things can he “evolve” on? If he does become president, is he going to evolve back to some of the positions he once held?

No it isn’t and you saying so doesn’t make it so. The mandate of Obamacare is either you buy or you get fined by the government. Everybody knows that. My guess is that this is one more word-pickery in attempting to gin up a false meme. I am sick of it. And guess what. It will not make a difference except to give give false hope to Cruzers and give them a tingle down their leg.

Yes, and that mandate is inextricably linked to the requirement that insurers cover people with pre-existing conditions. If you mandate that insurers cover people with pre-existing conditions, but do not require that people purchase insurance, it creates a YUGE free rider problem: people will just wait until they get sick before buying insurance. It would destroy the insurance market.

You can't have one without the other, which is why BOTH requirements must go (along with the rest of Obamacare).

In a country where the Federal government is constrained to its proper constitutional role, it's quite probable that some people will die in the streets.

That's the price of freedom.

My son, who was diagnosed with T1 diabetes at the age of 10 years old, sure as heck appreciates the pre-existing condition mandate.

You are the one spinning desperately to try and make us believe that Trump meant something different than what he clearly said. Look at kik5150’s excellent transcript graphic in post 5. It makes it clear as day that Trump was endorsing a “mandate for everybody to have insurance.” Not a mandate that everyone gets critical medical care if they need it but a “mandate for everybody to have insurance.”

$100+ million in Super PAC dollars sure buys a lot of deliberately obtuse posts on the internet.

Go to Trump’s Twitter feed. He’s just posted a clarification of his remarks. He’s being railroaded falsely!

Tricky Ted’s last minute before the vote sleaze express. Just like the Iowa smears on Carson & Trump from Senator Principled Conservative. We have seen this beltway mud slinging movie before.

A carpet bomb of last minute false smears from Team Cruzman Sachs? Shocking.

How dare we use Trumps own words against him! He should sue himself!

You lie. Trump was answering in the overall context of pre-existing conditions.

Yes, his clarification is that “I was referring to a backstop for pre-existing conditions,” and that he will “eliminate the law, in its entirety, & replace it w/ something much better” - namely “private plans, health savings accounts, & allow purchasing across state lines.”

Of course, he doesn’t explain how his “backstop for pre-existing conditions” will fit into his broader plan, or how he will manage to create a “backstop for pre-existing conditions” without creating a YUGE incentive for people to forego insurance until they need it. But, I guess pesky little details like that don’t matter. Even if they could take down the entire market.

@realDonaldTrump: I was asked about healthcare by Anderson Cooper & have been consistent- I will repeal all of #ObamaCare, including the mandate, period.

I could really care less. Trump had nothing to do with Obamacare. He is a private citizen who had no vote on the legislation. You should be more upset that the GOP-controlled Congress continued to fund it thru the Omnibus bill. The GOP has controlled the House since 2011 and failed to use the power of the purse against Obama's agenda.

Trump is going to win SC tomorrow and my family and I will be voting for him.

Trumpers, can you say that if Trump does not win the nomination you will vote for Cruz?

You see, a difference is I can say that if Cruz does not win, I will vote for Trump.

I would just like Trump to BE THE CONSERVATIVE he from time to time acts like...too many times he’s changes, says he’ll become what he needs to be, etc. Just defend the Constitution and the Republic.
