Florida Sen. Marco Rubio said one his GOP rivals isn't telling the whole truth about his record standing up for American firms against the Chinese.
"Ted Cruz was counsel on record for a Chinese company that stole an invention from an American inventor in Florida," Rubio said. "Here you have someone who goes around talking tough about China, but he leaves out the fact that when China stole an American inventor's product, he stood with the Chinese."
"That is a fact," Rubio said.
We decided to check it out.
The case
The case in question involved a man named Jordan Fishman, the CEO of Alpha Mining Systems, a Florida-based specialty tire company.
In 2009, he sued a Chinese tire manufacturer, Shandong Linglong Rubber Co., in U.S. District Court, in Virginia, accusing them of stealing blueprints and violating his copyright.
Fishman won the suit and was awarded $26 million in damages in 2010, according to federal court records.
But the Chinese company appealed and hired the Washington D.C. law firm Morgan, Lewis and Bockius, where Cruz was a partner.
Federal court records list R. Ted Cruz as one of the lawyers representing the Chinese firm.

“Do you know if he uses his birth name in private and a name that polls better when he is running for public office ?”
I’m not the one claiming he’s ashamed of his birth name.
Who claimed heâs ashamed of his birth name ?
If you don't know an answer, state so and/or move on to the next question.
“Who claimed heââ¬â¢s ashamed of his birth name ?”
You asked. that’s what got this conversation started.
Yes, I asked, and did not claim as you wrote erroneously. Apparently, you do not know the answer.
“Apparently, you do not know the answer.’
You don’t either.
It doesn’t help Trump for his fans to stage a donnybrook over other’s names.
Ted’s book says he picked ‘Ted’ for himself in junior high.
Thanks for the insight.
Ted’s book also mentioned the Swimmer was the first Edward going by ‘Ted’ his folks thought of when he picked the name and that he knew of Teddy K. at the time.
Perhaps a light bulb will go off in your head ... I asked the question.
He may not have wanted to be named after a teen-age mutant ninja turtle.
He may not have wanted to be named after a teen-age mutant ninja turtle.
“I asked the question.”
You did, and I said just because someone has a nickname they go by doesn’t mean they’re ashamed of their birth name. Why don’t you ask Ted the question, since obviously nobody here can answer your loaded question correctly.
I'm reluctant to contact Rafael, or "Ted" as you call him because they would open up new avenues for him to solicit funds from me ... another Heidi email. I assume you already contribute. If you please, at your next contribution, ask him why he does not use the name he was born with.
“I found something ...”
Good for you. You want a cookie now?
I don’t think that qualifies as “changing his name”. Ted is a common diminutive for Edward - like Bobby for Robert, Dick for Richard, etc. Choosing to go by his middle name rather than a nickname is not any big deal, especially if the nickname caused him to be teased.
“I’m reluctant to contact Rafael, or “Ted” as you call him because they would open up new avenues for him to solicit funds from me”
Are you admitting to being vulnerable to someone soliciting funds from you? Are you really not that strong willed? Poor guy.
So you are going to post your phone number or email address in 3, 2, 1 seconds because you are such a strong willed guy ... and can withstand all the fundraising calls ..., and because you practice what you preach.
“So you are going to post your phone number or email address”
I’m not the one with the question pretending it’s genuine.
