Is he ashamed of his birth name?

Every time Jon Stewart gets mentioned here some FReepers, some who I am sure are Cruz supporters excoriates him for not using his real Jewish sounding surname or Obama not ever mouthing his Muslim middle name. I guess Ted C, as long as he is parroting Uncle Levin is ok to call himself Biff Cruz, Winston Cruz or any other Anglo sounding name. Hypocrites!

You’re not helping your guy Trump’s cause by attacking Cruz’s name, or as others have, his looks. It’s silly and petty, and suggests you don’t have anything substantive to say.

"Ted Cruz defended a Chinese company that stole an invention from an American inventor."

Uh oh...looks like Ted Cruz will get hit with this at the next debate

Rubio was on with Greta pushing this narrative a couple of weeks ago...Greta, to her credit, disagreed with him.

So he did use his birth name a bit more as an attorney than as a Presidential candidate ... interesting. I wonder what changed.

Among former presidential candidates:

James Earl Carter had to be listed as such on the South Carolina ballot by law, but in the rest of the country he was placed as "Jimmy".
James D. Quayle wnt by his middle name "Dan", but not on his driver's license.
Edward M. Kennedy went by Ted, and his brother John F. was often referred to as Jack or Jackie.
Hercules R. Perot was rarely referred to by his birth name, a bit much to live up to.
Of course, Gerald R. Ford was born Leslie King, but his name was changed legally, so we won't count that one.
If Donald Trump's grandfather didn't change his name from Drumpf, I doubt "the Donald" would have the same cachet.
Hillary Rodham Clinton plays Three Card Monte with her name.

Who can forget John Ellis Bush or Willard Mitt Romney?

People use nicknames, names that fit on bumper stickers, Anglicized names. We Americans are usually okay with adapting first/middle names. The only fellow who was seriously dinged for it was Gary Hart, who took flak for changing his LAST name from "Hartpence". That change seemed a bit disloyal or fake in a pol of his era. Now, I don't know.

That's silly.

Have you read his birth certificate ?

His father is named Rafael, so I can easily see his family calling him Ted, the nickname ...

The son is also named Rafael ... which is a superior name to "Ted," which is the normal derivative of Theodore. I could see him using "Rafi" or "Ed" but "Ted" may indicate some kind of rejection of his birth name.

"Ted," which is the normal derivative of Theodore.

Recognize this guy? ...he name sure isn't Theodore.

The only Theodore I know was nicknamed "Beaver".

Well it is Friday, the day for silliness.

The point, TED is the nickname for Edward, not Theodore as you suggested.

"Ted is ashamed of his name" is just weak, I know you can do better.

He's a Canadian, his wife works for Big Banking...

Moving on, have a great Friday.

All the rest of us common folk are now forced to use our full legal names for travel, identification, etc., but anyone can run for President using whatever name; it’s just entertainment ...

Do you know if he uses his birth name in private and a name that polls better when he is running for public office ?
