LEESBURG, Va. - Republican Presidential candidate, Senator Ted Cruz, is the first to sign the U.S. Balanced Budget Amendment pledge to the citizens of the United States of America. His pledge is that he will "preserve, protect and defend the U.S. Constitution including Article V which, in part, empowers two-thirds of the states to draft and the people in three-quarters of the states to ratify a Balanced Budget Amendment to the U.S. Constitution."
The U.S. federal government has run up a debt of over 19 trillion dollars, largely to underwrite past and present consumption using resources that should belong to future Americans. The debt continues to grow. Congress has shown itself unable or unwilling to operate within its limits. Never before in the history of this country has one generation left the next generation in such a precarious fiscal situation.
Senator Cruz stated, “the Washington Cartel has put special interest spending ahead of the American people, driving our nation's debt to over $19 trillion. A child born today is already $59,000 in debt and that is just wrong. It is clear to me that only the states can fix this problem.”
Momentum is building fast in the pursuit of this state-driven amendment designed to reign-in the excessive spending of Congress.
Article V of the Constitution provides both Congress and the states with the exact same authority to propose a balanced budget amendment. Under Article V, it takes 34 states to apply for a convention to propose an amendment and 38 states to ratify an amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
Joseph Semprevivo & David Biddulph, Co-founders of the BBATF1, noted, “today is a great day in America because the signing of the BBA Pledge shows that the leading Republican Presidential Candidate, Sen. Ted Cruz, is focused on stripping the power from the Washington Cartel and handing it back to the people." "The ability of states to propose amendments was put in the Constitution to address the very circumstance we find ourselves in today, namely an unresponsive and out-of-control Congress that refuses to deal with critical issues, such as the massive debt.”
According to data compiled by the Balanced Budget Amendment Task Force, 27 of the constitutionally required 34 states have active applications to hold an interstate meeting (convention) to draft a balanced budget amendment. The nation is only seven states away from calling a limited convention under Article V.
1The Balanced Budget Amendment Task Force is a non-profit, non-partisan coalition whose mission is to educate state legislators regarding their Constitutional power to propose and ratify a Balanced Budget Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
He didn’t bother to show up for the Audit The Fed vote.
Whatever makes Teddy look good. he is on board. LOL
It’s very easy to sign something that will never come to pass.
He is really stupid. This is Ted’s “Read my lips” moment. You never sign anything. Lord what is he 13? So he is going to balance the budget in 2018 (his first budget he is responsible for). And due to the fact that this is being said, the Democrats are going to make sure he fails for sure. Dummy. Does he think the President balances the budget or have anything to do with it? Senators??????? That are terrible.
He was at a campaign even and the vote would not have changed whether he was there for the vote or not. Also, why you guys hate a senator who has a 97%-100% conservative/pro-liberty voting record in the U.S. Senate is beyond me.
Care to explain?
“Its very easy to sign something that will never come to pass.”
It’s an empty gesture, for many reasons.
I am not necessarily for a balanced budget amendment.
I would probably favor a spending limit amendment more.
Cruz has also signed Grover Norquists blood oath, which means MUSLIM/amnesty operative Norquist OWNS him and if anyone crosses Norquist, he will destroy them and know they MUST be for BAD trade like TPP & more cheap foreign labor!
Trump has NOT signed it.
[snip]Kroft: But you make it pretty clear. If someone breaks the pledge, you’re gonna do everything you can to get rid of them.
Norquist: To educate the voters that they raise taxes. And again, we educate people—
Kroft: To get rid of them.
Norquist: To encourage them to go into another line of work, like shoplifting or bank robbing, where they have to do their own stealing.
Kroft: You’ve got them by the shorthairs.
Norquist: The voters do. Yeah.
Kroft: And they have to march in lockstep with Grover Norquist?
Norquist: With the taxpayers of their state. I applaud from the sidelines. I go, ‘Very good.’ Yes, yes.

Great job... lets all help pave the way for Rubio. Since he didn’t sign this, that all is good.
Trump's behavior shows he is hedging his bets for a 3rd party run, and the "Pledge" that he swore never to sign is irrelevant.
“Itâs very easy to sign something that will never come to pass.”
It’s just the rank stupidity of our side that we still fall for this every election.
Do a quick show vote, lose, and then say “oh well, we tried”.
Article V ping. Cruz has signed on to the project for a Convention of the States to discuss a balanced budget amendment, a project which already has 28 states on board. Six more states, and Congress will find itself backed into a corner on this one.
This is separate from the Mark Levin/ALEC COS project which still has only four states on board (GA, AR, FL, AK).
It's symbolic more than anything else.
Ted Cruz is a criminal after what he did Monday in Iowa. He lynched the only black candidate running for President in either political party.

Which was my feeling all along. A trojan horse to split the vote for Hillary.
They cannot explain.
We need a balanced fiscal year Constitutional amendment, with all federal constitutional officers permanently losing and being barred from government employment, service, employment/service-based benefits and payment at the start of the next Congress after any federal fiscal year that ends in the red.
I think we need to limit US federal income taxation by Constitutional amendment to no more than 10%, except for 10,000,000 taxpayers.
I think we need to limit federal income taxation by Constitutional amendment to no more than 20%, except for 1,000,000 taxpayers, with any amount above 20% collected being used to pay down the existing debt and that refinanced.
I think we need to limit state-based income taxation by Constitutional amendment to 10%.
I think we need to permanently bar federal property and wealth taxation totally.
Norquist with the strong muslim Brotherhood ties. Even the loony Beck opposes Norquist. Would not want any affiliation with him not even my signature.
I suggest you read the following carefully before you go around making any more wild and unsubstantiated charges
