Bloomberg could win the election. He won as a Republican in heavily Democratic NYC. To win, he'd need to take the bulk of Democratic votes from Hillary. He has enough dough to outspend both parties combined 5 to 1. Unlike Jeb, who alienated most of the GOP with his positions, Bloomberg's stances are broadly acceptable to Democrats, independents and liberal Republicans. And everyone knows that he took Giuliani's NYC, which was already pretty safe, and turned it into the safest big city (>500K pop) in America.

Bloomberg is a highly-capable man. He is one of the few Goldman Sach alumni who got to be almost bigger than Goldman Sachs, based on his establishment of a niche that grew to dominate the financial data biz, toppling existing data providers like Reuters and Thomson in the process. And unlike the Donald, who's a silver spooner, Bloomberg is the son of a realtor.
