Ted Cruz Destroys Donald Trump On The Birther Question At Fox Business GOP Debate
Politicus USA ^ | Thursday, January, 14th, 2016 | Jason Easley

Ted Cruz and Donald Trump threw down over the birther question. Cruz was ready for Trump and blew him up by pointing out that by his own standard, Donald Trump wouldn’t be eligible to run for president because his mother was born in Scotland.

Cruz got a question about Trump’s birther claims. Sen. Cruz pointed out that Trump said his lawyers examined Cruz’s citizenship, and it is a non-issue. Cruz delivered the line of the night, “Since September, the Constitution hasn’t changed, but the poll numbers have.” Cruz said that the birther theories that Trump has been relying on require two parents to be born on US soil, which means that Trump would be disqualified because his mother was born in Scotland.

Trump responded by saying that he is leading in the last three polls in Iowa, and the Cruz is going down. Trump cited Lawrence Tribe and other constitutional attornies who say Cruz can’t run. Trump said that he already knows that the Democrats will be filing a lawsuit about Cruz’s citizenship. Trump said, “There is a big overhang. A big question mark on your head. You can’t do that to the party.” Trump said that you had to have certainty.

Cruz responded that he has defended the Constitution in the Supreme Court and that this lawsuit has zero chance of succeeding. Cruz said that Trump is parroting attack lines from Hillary Clinton.

Sen. Cruz has proven to be the only other Republican candidate to toe to toe with Trump.

The Republican establishment should be very afraid because the only person that stand up to Trump on the GOP side is Ted Cruz.

Let’s see, Obama was born of a Kenyan father and an American mother in Hawaii. Cruz was born of a Cuban father and an American mother in Canada. Obama wins.

This was the crux of the birther argument against Obama. If Obama was born in Kenya, what is the difference between his situation and that of Cruz? How would Obama be sunk if had been born out of the country, but not Cruz as well? As it stands now, Obama has a stronger argument as a NBC than Cruz.

If by "destroy" you mean "actually prove Cruz's point" about NYC values, yes. This cover does exactly that.

Cruz handed Trump his ass last night, and all of the scientific polls have thoroughly established it. Clickbait at Drudge means exactly zero.

Nice try, attempting to use liberal tactics to attack a Conservative. But then, that's what Trump, Trumpbots, and FReeper poseurs do.

Let's muddy the water:

:: Obama was born of a Kenyan father and an underage mother born in the American ^territory^ of American mother Hawaii ::

Damn! This is fun.

Sen. Cruz burned himself by refering to “New York City Values”.

So now Trump supporters believe in birthright citizenship.

Funny how even Trump had no problems with Cruz's citizenship until very recently, but he is a chameleon after all.

A suit has been filed to resolve the issue:

A separate suit has been filed against Rubio over the same issue.

I still don’t know what you are saying that I heard wrong.

Are you now saying that I got the common law definition wrong? or what Cruz said wrong?

I can go further.... Cruz specifically said that it only takes one parent to commute natural born status to a child, even if that child is born abroad.

Now... we can argue all day long about what is “constitutional”, and that gets us nowhere... because the only thing that really matters in the end is how the Supreme Court will rule.

And... considering that the Supreme Court these days is now in the business of inventing new constitutional rights for the sexually perverse, does it really matter which one of us is right about what Natural Born means???

Cruz also cited a supreme court ruling that defined natural born to be the default status if you are a citizen that is not naturalized.

Yeah. They keep wanting to confuse the process of naturalization with the automatic kind that's determined by naturalization statutes.

Because according to the law at the time, Obamas mother was not old enough to pass on US citizenship to him. She was only 18 - needed to be 19.

She was a naturalized citizen at the time of his birth on US soil. Trump is most definitely a NBC, unlike Ted Cruz.

You can only vote once at the Drudge poll.

And if 1,000 fervent "bots" go on there and vote for their guy--even before the debate is over, as is done--that's going to skew the results. The Paulbots did it. The Trumpbots do it. Some of us who support a different candidate don't bother, because we put no stock in online polls.

A new poll says 25% of voters feel Cruz being born in Canada doesn’t make him natural born. No matter what you say it changes these people’s vote. I think Cruz now loses the Iowa caucus, and in the south his firewall won’t hold.

Plus lots of people feel for the people on NYC every 911 and remember a full year of searching the rubble for human remains.

Cruz has to know taking a cheap shot at New Yorker doesn’t seem to show you want to be President of all 50 states.
Goldman Sachs employed Heidi Cruz, she liked their New York values. Cruz got his loans from New York values.

Not true, you can vote as many times as you like. You just have to know how to do it.

You can only vote once at the Drudge poll.

That means exactly: NOTHING. The validity of a poll with any sample size less than the entire population depends entirely on its randomness. Self-selected polls, where you go to a web site to vote are, by definition, NOT random. Please learn some basic statistics before you embarrass yourself like this.

Furthermore, you can "only vote once" at Drudge if you don't know what you're doing. I can vote as many times at Drudge's site -- or anybody else's -- as I want to. The only reason I would do that is to convince morons that a self-selected poll is meaningful.

I guess the only thing that's going to convince you people are the results next month when the real action starts.

That's what I've been saying all along. Let's see how registered Republicans vote in Republican primaries in February and March. Then we'll have an idea. Right now in the race for the nomination, everybody is tied at zero.
