Ted Cruz Destroys Donald Trump On The Birther Question At Fox Business GOP Debate
Politicus USA ^ | Thursday, January, 14th, 2016 | Jason Easley

Ted Cruz and Donald Trump threw down over the birther question. Cruz was ready for Trump and blew him up by pointing out that by his own standard, Donald Trump wouldn’t be eligible to run for president because his mother was born in Scotland.

Cruz got a question about Trump’s birther claims. Sen. Cruz pointed out that Trump said his lawyers examined Cruz’s citizenship, and it is a non-issue. Cruz delivered the line of the night, “Since September, the Constitution hasn’t changed, but the poll numbers have.” Cruz said that the birther theories that Trump has been relying on require two parents to be born on US soil, which means that Trump would be disqualified because his mother was born in Scotland.

Trump responded by saying that he is leading in the last three polls in Iowa, and the Cruz is going down. Trump cited Lawrence Tribe and other constitutional attornies who say Cruz can’t run. Trump said that he already knows that the Democrats will be filing a lawsuit about Cruz’s citizenship. Trump said, “There is a big overhang. A big question mark on your head. You can’t do that to the party.” Trump said that you had to have certainty.

Cruz responded that he has defended the Constitution in the Supreme Court and that this lawsuit has zero chance of succeeding. Cruz said that Trump is parroting attack lines from Hillary Clinton.

Sen. Cruz has proven to be the only other Republican candidate to toe to toe with Trump.

The Republican establishment should be very afraid because the only person that stand up to Trump on the GOP side is Ted Cruz.

Drudge has Donald at 51.5%, how can anyone claim he didn't win?

Because online polls are meaningless. Ron Paul's bots used to click away at those things, and he'd win online poll after online poll.

A couple of weeks ago Trump was in an interview if he thought Cruz was qualified to become President given his Canadian birth. Donald answered like any good businessman who is RISK ADVERSE that he didn’t know, it could be an issue and the issue should be decided in court. Logical question and very logical answer.

Lol. Trumpsters get blown a part using their own reasoning.

Numerous trumpsters have stated on this site to be a nbc both parents have to be citizens so they post Rubio, Jindal and Cruz cant run for president and now trump is disqualified from being president!!! So funny

Will trump go before the courts to confirm he is a nbc? His mother wasnt an American!!!

As I posted to Isara before I perused the rest of the "news" for today - the Media DeathStar is going to destroy Cruz:

Admittedly, the Lefty whackjobs at the NYDN, but this is just the start.

>>> You raise two good points and one good question. Prepare to be slammed by the Rude Cruz Posters of FR.

Thanks...

Btw, I am voting for Cruz. I would support Trump over any democrat running hands down... but right now Cruz is my pick.

It’s the issue and what the dems can do with it that scares the hell out of me.

Ron Paul's bots used to click away at those things, and he'd win online poll after online poll.

Rand had 18% in an Iowa online poll yesterday.

Trump is so desperate and nerdy on this issue. It’s like when he said Evangelicals don’t come out of Cuba. So when Cruz notes that not many conservatives come out of Manhattan about the phony Trump, it’s odd that that’s hitting the big, big mouth Trump too hard. Trump can say all Iowans are stupid. But let Cruz point out that Trump has New York values, and he does, that’s somehow wrong.

I predicted that over a year ago. The issue doesn’t have to be won in court, it has to be won in the court of public opinion. All the media need do is taint him. Untainting himself will be a herculean task.

I see the Cruz propaganda arm of FR is in full force today.

Cruz... hmm... isn’t he the guy who used to be a candidate before last night?

Would you please stick to the merits of Cruz's and Trump's assertions? Whining about your interpretation of Trump's background makes one assume that you have no substantive arguments.

It's sophomoric college debate technique....change the topic when you can't win the argument at hand.

So now Trump supporters believe in birthright citizenship. That was a quite turn-around even for people as devoid of reasoning capacity as the Trumpbots.

Cruz reminded Trump, the rest of the audience, that Lawrence Tribe is a leftist professor used by Hillary Clinton and other leftists and that Trump is not served by using what the Democrats do.

The longer this is an issue in the media the more it hurts Cruz. Just talking about how well Cruz put down Trump works in Trump’s favor.

I would disagree. If 25% of Republicans question Cruz’s eligibility and Trump was able to further muddy the waters for him, then Trump won the night. Trump’s comments about a lawsuit waiting to happen if Cruz is the nominee will have an impact on some voters. I know people on here love Cruz and many think he had a great night last night, but I believe he was cut up a little bit in the debate. Trump answered the New York values question very well and Cruz was hurt by that exchange. Couple that with the birther exchange and I believe Trump had the better night.

I am not a Trump or Cruz supporter, so I am trying to be as objective as possible.

I’m impressed with Ted Cruz’ “smarts”, but from everything I’m reading he is a citizen by “statute”...Congressional statute, and like the Freeper above states...Cruz had his choice of three citizenships: Canadian, U.S., and Cuban. That is not “natural born”. Cruz is certainly smart enough to know he is on a slippery slope and I feel does not seek a ruling because he knows it very well could go against him. I personally believe that Trump would rise above the enmity Cruz is now showing, recognize he would be an asset to any administration, and would offer him a spot in his cabinet should Trump win the election, which seems likely.

I am so happy we’re down to Cruz and Trump.

Either way, the RINO / GOPe / Uniparty loses.

Let’s keep it together FRiends!

It’s amazing how bent out of shape Cruz supporters get trying to deny reality.

12,000 people attend a Trump rally compared to 287 for Cruz? - “Attendance at rallies doesn’t translate into votes!”

Trump wins every on-line poll. “On-line polls mean absolutely nothing!”

I guess the only thing that’s going to convince you people are the results next month when the real action starts. Even then, I’d guess, you’d say “Trump bought the voting machines!” and insist that Cruz actually won.
