If we don't take action against gun violence, then we are complicit in it.
That's why on Thursday I announced my intent to sign what would likely be a first-in-the-nation executive order, pending federal government approval, to ban those on government watch lists from buying guns in Connecticut.
We have a moment in America to do the right thing. And we in Connecticut are seizing it.
It's become routine to watch so many families across the nation hold their breath, hoping - and praying - that loved ones come home. It often feels like these are daily, yet life-changing, tragedies. Yet, so many elected officials sit idly by.
It needs to end because what's equally tragic to these almost daily acts of lunacy in cities across America is our inability to stand up to do the right thing. We need to ensure that those who shouldn't have guns don't get them.
The public shouldn't be fooled into thinking we are powerless. All we need to do is to use our common sense.
FBI data show that between 2004 and 2014 those on the terrorism watch list tried to buy guns and explosives 2,233 times, they succeeded 2,043 times, or 90% of the time.
That's extraordinary. And what's even more extraordinary is that the NRA and Republicans in Congress seem to argue that's just fine. It's twisted, backward logic.
And that's as 76% of American gun owners and 71% of NRA members themselves support a prohibition against those on government watch lists from buying guns.

SPLC is in bed with this administration. You can bet SPLC will have a say as to how the list is constructed.
Why isn’t the “no fly list” a “prosecute now list”?
Congress won’t do it because there is some little quirk in our laws that saw you have the right to face your accuser. The watch list is nothing more than a wish list in most cases.
Isn’t it “unconstitutional” to apply a “religious test” to buy a gun? What the hell is this moron thinking?
Careful, that’ll get you on “the list” :)
The morons on “Morning Joe” think this is a great idea and they think Obama should simply issue an executive order requiring all 50 States to adopt Connecticut’s ban.
Isn’t living in a Leftist dictatorship wonderful?
IF WE JUST BANNED THE TERRORISTS?
IF THEY ARE ON ANY KIND OF LIST....JUST F$%#ING
E N D T H E M !!!!!
(This rant was brought to you by Muzz-Off anti-Mooslime spray...now with 50% more bacon grease).
Jedi....
The watch lists are secret and extra judicial. They are no reason to infringe one's right to posess arms.
Maybe Malloy should be nominated for the no fly list.
Let’s see you can’t fly on an airplane because you culd be a terrorist but the same people on this list can walk around freely in the USA
They can go to crowded places like movies , sports events, schools, churches etc etc
Makes a lot of sense
isn’t Connecticut “the constitution state”?
if the watch lists are accurate, why are these people still in the country?

As of right now there is over 98,000 of us on it.
That list is fake. There is no "Terrorist Security Administration."
The real list is secret and I honestly wonder if the government is going to hand it over to Connecticut officials.
The San Bernardino Terrorists were not on any watch list. But I bet you and I are.
If “terrorists” consists solely of “non-citizens,” then yes. In fact, I would go so far as to say that NO non-citizen should be allowed to buy — or even possess — a firearm. Nor should they be accorded any of the same rights as citizens under the Constitution: no right to free speech, no freedom to practice a religion, no right to jury trial or habeus corpus ... in short, no equal protection under the law.
There are two distinct legal entities here: citizens and non-citizens. If the latter receive all the same rights and distinctions of the former, what is the incentive to become a citizen? How do we exclude from those rights anyone on earth? Our borders become meaningless and our sovereignty ceases.
And while that may be what the marxists among us want, I’d prefer not to have some illiterate Zulu voting in my local school board election or a widow in Turkmenistan drawing Social Security benefits.
Citizens and non-citizens must have different rights if the distinction is to have any meaning at all.
I wondered when I noticed the name.
Thanks for the info.
And yes, I certainly believe the real list is secret. If our names are on it we certainly do not have the right to know it in this transparent regime.
But a question I have for anyone, is if someone is on it, and they try to book a flight, how does the person selling tickets know?
Was.
I believe this isn't discovered until they show up at the airport to get their boarding passes. If they've already purchased a ticket, they're SOL.
Exactly, that’s exactly why it’s unconstitutional.
