The principal of DeWitt Clinton HS, a struggling Bronx school in Mayor de Blasio's multimillion-dollar Renewal program, changed students failing grades to passing without teachers knowledge or consent, insiders told The Post.
In one case, Santiago Taveras gave a senior who received a "no show" in a global-history class a 75 and changed her failing 55 grade in gym to a minimum passing 65, records show. She then got a credit for each class, which she did not deserve, several staffers charged.

This nonsense (social promotion) is as old as the hills; this story is news because it is the principal instead of the usual suspects (the teachers themselves) doing it. Taxpayers have been robbed of massive amounts of money in urban districts for decades; whatever the excuse is for poor performance, the fact is that those billions pay for nothing.
The principal was just helping them to be able to go on to college and become part of the BlackLivesMatter protestors.s/
And that’s only one school out of thousands.
Were the students minority? did the principal not want to face the fact that the students are stupid and/or lazy?
I’ve heard of schools calling 20% - 39% a D and 80% to 100% an A. No need to change grades there. Instant success without any improvement!
“changed students failing grades to passing”
They have to do something to get those 20 year old ninth
graders out of school.
Just Reconquista in action. Nothing to see here. Move along.
My school district has this policy: If a student misses a test (and does not make it up), that student receives a zero on that test. So far, so good.
But if a student sits for a test, the minimum score he can receive is 50%! So if a student puts his name on test, and does nothing more, the teacher must record a 50% score.
Teachers HATE this policy. A student can literally master only 1/4 of a course and still pass. But school administrators love it. Because their bonuses - and their resumes - depend on raising student "achievement".
Well, that’s certainly a quick and economical way to “fix” our failing government education system, and quite effective on paper at that! Really, this principal should be commended for thinking outside the box.
My children describe teachers allowing countless re-takes of quizzes to boost grades, along with grade improvements for bringing in cans for food drives. One benefit of the Common Core that should not be overlooked is that it exposed the huge difference between locally-controlled grades/report cards and the reality of standardized test results. A lot of parents who thought they were raising geniuses (and praised their local schools) just got a hard slap in the face with the reality that they’ve been lied to.
Teachers’ opposition to Common Core was driven by the fear of that truth emerging; the cat is out of the bag.
And these ignorant students then go onto college where teachers fix their grades because they agree with them and we’re left with morons with a pedigree.
Do you have a local newspaper you can share this with? It’s worth a try...
Really? In the 80's we had to change them ourselves!
How Jay Leno found J walkers.
That was done when the 50% program first started (about 8 years ago). Recently-retired teachers tried to sound the alarm. The story even briefly made national news! End result:
1. A few people wrote protest letters to the local newspapers.
2. The school board members who voted for the policy all got re-elected.
3. The deputy superintendent who originally came up with the policy got a better job: Hired as superintendent of the most prestigious school district in the area.
That last one, in particular, stung (or should I say, stinks). Sigh...
This proves government schools need more money.
It’s rough when the bad guys win one ... and take children down with them. Dreadful. When Trump’s President this can be brought to his attention... maybe he can help.
The prime driver is:
Schools are broadly graded by the community and feds for funding, based on the school's graduation rate.
Typical corrupt, sans integrity LIB asshat “educator”. What a complete loser.
