BEN CARSON SKETCHES PLAN FOR DEALING WITH ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS (Citizenship for guest workers)
Powerline ^ | 9/13/15 | PAUL MIRENGOFF

Posted on 10/24/2015 8:41:40 AM PDT by jimbo123

During an appearance of Face the Nation, Dr. Ben Carson took a stab today at outlining how he would deal with the issue of illegal immigration. After criticizing Donald Trump’s concept of deporting every illegal immigrant (and then readmitting “the good ones”), Carson said this:

[L]et’s say we get [the borders] sealed, because certainly in a Carson administration that would be done within the first year. You also turn off the spigot that dispenses the goodies, so that people don’t have any incentive to come here.

Then those who are here, we have to recognize that we can’t just round them up, but we can give them an opportunity to register. I would give them a six-month period.

If they register, and if they have a pristine record, they haven’t been causing problems, I would give them an opportunity to become guest workers — not citizens, not voting people, not people who get goodies. I think that would be a fair way to do it.

In terms of them becoming citizens later on down the road if they’ve done things the right way, we the American people will decide what the criteria for that ought to be.

Most of the commentary I’ve seen about Carson’s statement has focused on the guest worker idea. I’ll get to it in a moment.

My biggest concern, though, is with Carson’s proposal eventually to establish criteria for illegal immigrants becoming “citizens. . .down the road if they’ve done things the right way.” By definition, those who are here illegally have not “done things the right way.” They should be barred from becoming U.S. citizens.

The real problem with Ben Carson is that he knows so little of what he would have to do as president and because of his inadequacy he would be at the mercy of the Karl Roves of the world.

Some ambitious GOPe consultant would find a way to wheedle in their influence and we would be no better off than if we got Yeb!

I like Carson, but his true inexperience will be a real problem.

They should be barred from becoming U.S. citizens.

At inception they should be put on a track for citizenship (20 years) or guest worker. The Citizenship requires much more in the way of making amends for illegal entry and ongoing behavior, no welfare or bad behavior and such.

What is Cruz’ plan? I haven’t heard one. I can’t back him with this an unknown. I’m definitely not backing Carson now.

I left a ruined state and saw firsthand how illegals invade an area, making those that don’t conform 2nd class citizens (pun intended)

“And there’s the “mass deportation”” right there. Take it one step further and ENFORCE E-verify.”

You forget they will get guest worker status so will not be leaving.

This is amnesty.

I left out this

Thru our polling as well as personal experience in our involvement in the DC mayoral elections, we have found the deportation of illegal aliens and reduced legal immigration to have great resonance among blacks and much greater than among whites.

I don't have to cite you anything.

Because you can't. E-Verify as a voluntary information service is fine. As a mandatory system it is illegal.

It is illegal for an illegal alien to work in this country and it is illegal for an employer to hire them.

There is nothing wrong with making it illegal to hire an illegal alien. There is something terribly wrong with enforcing that law over citizens.

It is why we have the Employment Eligibility Verification Form I-9. The 1986 Immigration Act requires it. E-verify makes the process easier and stops the rampant fraud attached to the I-9 process.

Which is why it is and should be held unconstitutional. An I-9 is effectively a Federal work permit.

There are more effective means the Constitution provides to rid the country of invaders without empowering the Federal government to decide whether or not you can enter a private contract.

Wow, you’ve been here for a shorter time than Carson has been a Republican.

Your immigration positions show a severe gap in logic.

“No doubt the guy is a brilliant surgeon, BUT when he was in South Africa it showed him being very chummy with Commy Nelson Mandela. That was all I needed to know.”

We all have gifts, but they are distinct and separate.

I can do engineering calculations, but fixing the plumbing is beyond me - that’s why hubby is fixing it right now ;)

Being a neurosurgeon is mutually exclusive from being a politician. Besides he doesn’t seem very conservative, wanting to grant amnesty, so I don’t care if he’s ‘good’ or not. Whatever ‘good’ at politics is - Hitler was probably good at it because he got a lot of desperate people to believe him.

Carson brags about sitting on the boards of Kellogg and Cosco. Said that gave him experience to deal with all kinds of problems. Kellogg and Cosco are two of the biggest donors to Planned Parenthood and abortion worldwide. Of course Fox News will never call him out on it. They love him. They give him a pass on his support of abortion, the exact same way they give Jeb Bush a pass.

“If you truly turn off said spigot, the problem will solve itself (they will all leave) since virtually all illegals are receiving ‘goodies’ of one kind or another.”

With his guest worker program, they will stay. As will their families.

One guest worker can say they are supporting their wife, numerous children, parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers and their wives and children....I don’t suppose Carson put a limit on just the guest worker can stay and the family can’t.

It is the law of the land. It has not been held as unconstitutional. Did you fill one out? E-verify is nothing more than making the I-9 process more effective and less subject to fraud. It should be made mandatory just like the I-9.

There are more effective means the Constitution provides to rid the country of invaders without empowering the Federal government to decide whether or not you can enter a private contract.

Shutting off the job magnet is one of the best ways to stop the invaders from coming. The Federal government should have this tool to protect our national security and the American worker. The Federal government is already empowered. The fact that you don't accept it means nothing in terms of its implementation. How you ever filled out an I-9?

You think the ends justify the means. I don't.

Well, at least he agrees with Trump.

The clown also opposes the border wall and has never explained how he would be "sealing" the border wall. He's just talking out his a**.

I must have missed something here, whose idea is this again; I know they say it is Carson but it sounds an awful lot like Rubio.

I don’t get the impression Carson appreciates the problem.

Anyone who’s not alarmed at what’s become of our country is not worthy of the Oval Office, imo.

“...I dunno if ‘nice’ is a word I’d use to describe him”
********************************************************************************

Well, he certainly wants to be “nice” to illegal aliens...that’s the context of using the word nice in my post.

He’s unacceptable to me for his illegal alien kindness approach as well as other things.

I see what you wre saying now- Yep- he wants to be nice to illegals which WILL cost AMERICANS jobs, money, help etc- it will literally take money out of the mouths of America’s Children to feed the illegal’s children- Seems he doesn’t care much about beign nice to Americans-

That and his ‘pull the plug on grandma’, and ‘take guns away from people’ stances make him a no go for me- oh, and his inevitable racism that has already started to show through in his support for feurgeson protestors and questioning the motives of the police officer-

He may be conservative on some issues, but he most definitely is not conservative on some VERY big issues that he should be- Sadly most people won’t know about his liberal views- and these aren’t just ‘old views that he’s since turned away from’ either- soem of these are views he’s stated shortly before he decided to run
