BEN CARSON SKETCHES PLAN FOR DEALING WITH ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS (Citizenship for guest workers)
Powerline ^ | 9/13/15 | PAUL MIRENGOFF

Posted on 10/24/2015 8:41:40 AM PDT by jimbo123

During an appearance of Face the Nation, Dr. Ben Carson took a stab today at outlining how he would deal with the issue of illegal immigration. After criticizing Donald Trump’s concept of deporting every illegal immigrant (and then readmitting “the good ones”), Carson said this:

[L]et’s say we get [the borders] sealed, because certainly in a Carson administration that would be done within the first year. You also turn off the spigot that dispenses the goodies, so that people don’t have any incentive to come here.

Then those who are here, we have to recognize that we can’t just round them up, but we can give them an opportunity to register. I would give them a six-month period.

If they register, and if they have a pristine record, they haven’t been causing problems, I would give them an opportunity to become guest workers — not citizens, not voting people, not people who get goodies. I think that would be a fair way to do it.

In terms of them becoming citizens later on down the road if they’ve done things the right way, we the American people will decide what the criteria for that ought to be.

Most of the commentary I’ve seen about Carson’s statement has focused on the guest worker idea. I’ll get to it in a moment.

My biggest concern, though, is with Carson’s proposal eventually to establish criteria for illegal immigrants becoming “citizens. . .down the road if they’ve done things the right way.” By definition, those who are here illegally have not “done things the right way.” They should be barred from becoming U.S. citizens.

“I would give them an opportunity to become guest workers”

That’s a “goodie” that they don’t have now and Carson wants to create. Why?

I agree. Ben Carson’s problem (and it IS A PROBLEM) is that he is too nice to properly handle lawbreakers such as those here illegally. The need to be deported...PERIOD!

Compromising on our laws has been the problem all along. This smells of liberalism and nothing is mentioned about CLOSING THE BORDER to STOP illegal immigration.

First things first. Sorry Carson. No joy.

He is a very smart, and a nice man.

When I hear stuff like this, it makes me wonder if he’s given any serious thought to the problem at all. Like, even 15 seconds worth of thought.

The only way to stop illegal immigration once and for all is to make it clear that, if caught, they would be PERMANENTLY ineligible for citizenship or legal status.

He seems unable to understand that when you lay out the specific predicate to break our laws but benefit from it, that more lawbreaking will follow.

He is unprepared for the Oval Office.

I not in favor of citizenship ever being granted. I am in favor of revoking citizenship given to those under the Reagan amnesty. I am in favor of revoking citizenship of all anchor babies. I can see giving resident alien status to dreamers with clean records.

Overall, I’m a lot more hard line than Carson. But his statements would not cause me to not vote for him.

I think Trump is possibly a fraud. I prefer Cruz. But I can happily vote for Carson.

Who wouldn’t want to come here when you are aided and abetted by Bush, Obama, Republicans, Democrats and the numerous Sanctuary cities who do not enforce Immigration law.

Has anyone thought that being even a guest worker puts millions into the work force that can’t find jobs now. Until the economy recovers, and I mean 100%, it is wrong to put this work force into the system until legal Americans get the jobs first. We can deport an illegal back to their origin but we cannot ship out a legal American to where?

Net jobs created in the last seven years have gone to immigrants and a record number of citizens unemployed.

Well, at least he agrees with Trump.

>>You also turn off the spigot that dispenses the goodies, so that people don’t have any incentive to come here.<<

And there’s the “mass deportation”” right there. Take it one step further and ENFORCE E-verify.

So, Mr N00b.... You’re not a fan of citizenship for illegal s but you support Carson, who is. Oh, and you don’t trust Trump, who will DEPORT illegals.

I smell an odd air about you, I’ll say that.

He’s too nice? He wants to restrict who can own guns, he wants to set up a panel to decide which elderly people deserve life saving medical attention and which ones don’t

[[Our mind-set is to automatically pull out all medical stops—even if that means literally torturing loved ones during their last few months of life. What if rather than always putting terminally ill patients in intensive care units—where we poke, prod, test, and operate ad nauseum—we allowed most people the dignity of dying in relative peace and comfort, at home, surrounded by loved ones, with hospice care or some other medical attendant if necessary? Agreement on who should be treated and who should not be treated would require an extensive national discussion that could hopefully result in some helpful basic guidelines. Obviously any such guidelines should allow for flexibility and choice. And decisions should be based not merely on age but on the viability of the patient. (From his 1999 book, The Big Picture.)]]

Note- the above link is to a liberal blog- But his statements show he’s also for income regulation (apparently he doesn’t think rich people should be able to become richer), and for restricting who can profit from financial speculations

I dunno if ‘nice’ is a word I’d use to describe him

Why do you think Trump is a fraud? I think he is the least likely to be a fraud. He does not need this political hcareer to line his pockets or empower himself. He doesn’t need the plane, he has one. He doesn’t need celebrity, he already has that. I don’t get the snarkiness directed toward Trump, that is not directed at the young career politicians with no money, no power, no celebrity? Why is their sincerity never questioned? Trump is running for president the way our founding fathers envisioned. Successful older people who have lived their lives, taking time in their golden years, to run for office at their own expense, serving at their own expense.

With 600 million people south of our porous non-existent southern border and untold millions outside the Americas who might also avail themselves of this easy access, there can be only one immigration policy - Stop giving prizes for illegal entry.

Any measure that permits those who entered illegally to benefit from that illegal act is amnesty.

This must be stopped.

Will you help stop this?
You can help:
Right-click this image and save it. Post it on your Facebook, Twitter and other social media accounts. Send a copy to your Senators and Reps right now and whenever you communicate with them. When you get fundraising solicitations, include a copy in your reply. Send copies to your friends and family and ask them to do likewise. Spread it everywhere.

Perhaps Carson is the fraud. One thing about allowing “guest workers” is that they get counted in the census, which tips the numbers for Congress Critters to get elected. I’m not sure I’m explaining this, but I heard Mark Levin talk about it - and I think Rush Limbaugh.

Enabling millions of illegals who will vote themselves entitlements is a disaster. Carson should review the Reagan amnesty.
If you cant stop illegal immigration it will be virtually impossible to win on any other conservative issues. Just wait until the left changes the electoral college to the NPV (National Popular Vote).
