CNN's debate live stream draws a record crowd
CNN Money ^ | 09/17/2015

A live stream of CNN's Republican primary debates attracted a record crowd on Wednesday night. The stream was front and center on the CNN home page during the debates.

As of 9:45 p.m. ET, about an hour and a half into the prime time debate, the live web stream had 921,000 concurrent (or simultaneous) viewers, according to Alex Wellen, the company's chief product officer. Wellen called the traffic "massive" -- by far the biggest audience a primary debate has had on the Internet.

The number of "peak" concurrent viewers was unknown. The Super Bowl earlier this year had a concurrent audience of 1.3 million web viewers at its peak toward the end of the game.

Although the streaming audience was sizable, the vast majority of viewers watched via cable TV. Past events have shown that people watch on big screens when they can; web streams on phones and tablets are usually a backup option.

The TV ratings for Wednesday's twin debates will come in on Thursday.

The streaming aspect of the debate was flawless on my end. Don’t have cable so I watched it on my laptop.

Get a grip. People were interested in the debate, not CNN. That’s a good thing, in case you’ve forgotten that we’re still living in a democracy.

A democracy is Canada, UK, Germany, France, even Japan, China and Russia.. even Sharia Law is democratic..

The U.S. Constitution does not have the words democrat or democracy in it anywhere.. Where do you get the idea America is a democracy.?. it IS NOT.. America is UNIQUE among all givernments..

The WHOLE Website you’re posting on is dedicated to America remaining a REPUBLIC.. a FREE one.. NOT a democracy..

You’re CONFUSED.. “ A Democracy” and being democratic is two entirely different things.. IGNORANCE on this subject is at the root America’s basic problem...

A Democracy was, is, and always will be Mob Rule by mobsters.. ALWAYS..
CANADA is ruled by a MOB... as is all of Europe and South America.. Most of the world actually..

Democracy is a political disease with one symptom of Socialism... among other symptoms..

Democracy is a FILTHY DIRTY THING.. infectious.. poisonous.. that breeds corruption..

Democracy is the road to socialism. -Karl Marx

Democracy is indispensable to socialism.
The goal of socialism is communism. -V.I. Lenin

The meaning of peace is the absence of opposition to socialism .-Karl Marx

** NEXT WEEK: my screed will be on the DUMBEST most ill trained intellectuals I know.. Totally ignorant of ANY GOOD CIVICS..

"CNN WINS... EVERYBODY else LOSES...."

You must have watched a different debate. I saw in-depth questions by CNN (domestic and foreign policies) and watched the weak and strong replies by the candidates. It was miles above the Fox sponsored debate, which pains me to acknowledge. Although, there was one "gotcha" question, but don't remember what about or to whom.

I loved what I saw while the candidates were argueing amongst each other. It was a great food fight and many unexpected candidates shined...mostly Fiorina. It will be interesting to see what the polls say in the next 2 days. Personally, I think Trump was in over his head, for the amount I saw him. He talks a good game, but rarely gives specifics.

My vote still goes to Senator Cruz even though he doesn't know how to play the "cult of personality". He was the only true conservative on that stage (according to record). Others were attempting, but we all know their background.

Prediction: Jeb Bush (amongst others) will pull out after the Iowa caucus in January, if not before.

Right.. it a scourge a disease.. it’s a SCAM..
NO.. democracy has ever been democratic.. it’s a LIE..

Mafioso’s performing a “protection racket” to protect YOU from themselves..

Example: If you are paying TAXES on something you OWN or don’t OWN.. i.e. property..
You’re paying RENT on it to the ones that DO OWN “IT”..

Yes; Goes right over the heads of most “intellectuals”..
They don’t do well with “simple” things..

The U.S. Constitution was written Down (you know on paper) to ensure the United States would NOT BECOME a Democracy..

A government designed in three distinct parts to make becoming a democracy impossible.. Only way to make America a democracy was to ABSOLVE the Constitution from any real power..

WHICH is what the Democrat party was invented for designed to do.. and has dome from the MOMENT it was invented..

DEMOCRACY is a poisonous political entity.. ALWAYS HAS BEEN.. and is..
Only America has some that despise MOB RULE by mobsters..
and a few immigrants that ESCAPED “democracy” to come here..

While I agree with CNN comment, I have to nitpick. We don't live in a democracy (majority rule). We live in a Republic (equal rule), or at least used to.

I will NEVER give up reminding people of the brilliance of the Founding Fathers for not creating a "democracy". Their debates, publications, letters, diaries all indicated that democracies fail because the minority has little to no say. Democracy is 2 wolves and 1 lamb deciding what to have for dinner. A Republic is 2 wolves and 2 lambs with a broad sword deciding what's for dinner.

Communism IS democracy..

Communists murder or imprison ALL that do not like Communism
The ONLY ones left like communism and vote for it.. therefore communism is then democratic..

Same with Sharia law.. very very democratic.. in that way..

The Russians decided to BRAIN WASH the people from toddler to mature adult into Communists(socialists).. same result..

As has been done and is being done in America as we speak..

Democracy is nasty..

I agree that a republic was the objective of the Founders. Unfortunately, with the 17th Amendment, I think that got lost. However, I think that if we work at it, we can make it a decent democracy (which is not to be understood as mob rule or caudillo-ism, since mobs always want a leader, the Man on the White Horse).

To me this debate really looked as if the voters were getting a chance to view all the candidates with their weaknesses or strengths.

The GOP has between 10 and 15 possible candidates, most of them relatively young or at any rate way under retirement age. The Dems, on the other hand, have only 3 geriatric socialist candidates, with wacky Bernie leading simply because he’s so wacky. And he’s not even a Dem, he’s an Independent.

So if we can get a good candidate, we win. And it will be a process of elimination, hopefully, this time, not dominated by money (Romney had big bucks, including his own, and both Trump and Bush have big bucks) but by what candidate could win. I’m already donating to my favorite...
