Russia and the West have Swapped Spiritual and Cultural Roles
Russia Insider ^ | September 7, 2015 | Iben Thranolm

“Let me put it a different way. During the rule of Communism, Russia found itself in the grip of a culture of death, but she is returning to life, in the sense of Christian culture with a strong awareness of the historical roots and continuity.”

The situation in the West is the complete opposite. We celebrate death and have surrendered to the satanic view of man in a self-righteous rage and rant against God. We can divorce with ease on-line. We prioritise work and career above family responsibilities especially raising children. We favour euthanasia, abortion on demand, homosexual rights and same-sex marriage while our cities are submerged in Islam and growing segregation.

Russia has chosen a completely different direction, and it is one of the reasons that many Russians perceive activists like Pussy Riot as latter-day Bolsheviks. They invade and desecrate the sanctity of the church, a holy place. The West celebrates this as progress and prosperity. Russians are reminded that the spirit of communism is still alive. It merely assumes new forms and takes up residence in the West, where liberals and progressives love and adore Pussy Riot.

Today, the spirit of communism shows itself in western worship of human rights, freedom of speech and the elite’s utopian notions of so-called open societies. We are headed for the very wasteland that the Russians were relieved to leave behind. Patriarch Kirill has warned the West: “Do not take the path we took. We tried it and it leads to destruction!"

I’ve bought into that since about that time frame.

The warning signals are out there, as we sleep-walk through funding China’s ascendancy.

Russia is slitting it’s own throat too. Once done with us, Russia will next for China.

This one claims to live under a bridge in DC unless; that’s the name of the suburb in Moscow.

Except I can’t escape the feeling that we mean it and Russia doesn’t.

A demographically imploding Russia has got a long, sparsely populated border with an expansionist China.

I’d be worried about that if I was Russia.

Good on Russia for defending their Black Sea Port.

The pu$$ies in our government can’t even match the courage.

“...a degenerate country that isn’t getting better. It’s people live in a crap pile, and they like it that way, and they would like to make everyone in the world live like they do.”

That sounds terribly familiar.

Every Western nation is suffering from self inflicted sterility. No children, no future.

Who? Neither elhombrelibre nor Agog appear to be Russian trolls, like marvel5 who posted the following on that same thread you linked to:

Well, hard to argue, but at least we’re not gang raping girls in Ukraine, over and over again, then have them charged as being “Polish Observers,” and then turn their face into mush with our fists— and then marching them out for show-trials where people accuse them of “bombing our Russian children! Why are you a fascist!? You are AA gunner! You are spy!” which is what Russian soldiers are currently doing to random Ukrainians.

We started the chaos there. Just lacked the stones and skills to finish it.

Not as easy as Libya.

An old claim from Russian propaganda to justify invasion, but it is not grounded on reality.

Anything that Obama, Soros, McCain and the EU can agree on is going to be false and malignant.

Meanwhile, Obama has done nothing to help Ukraine, and has recently even forced them to accept the partition of that slither of land Russia was able to chop off. Thank God for the Ukrainians that they pushed the Russians as far back as they did. When you have almost one million protesters on the streets ranging from the political left, to the right, and the middle, ranging from Jews, to Pakistanis, to your average Ukrainian, all agreeing that a government shouldn't have the right to abduct and torture you or kill you because you don't want to be dominated by Russian's mafia state, that is certainly a worthy cause.

The Rus learned very early that Christians who let their faith emasculate their state-craft will soon be ruled by non-Christians. Boris and Gleb are venerated as saints for not fighting Svyatopolk the Accursed over worldly power, but it was Yaroslav who secured the patrimony of St. Vladimir’s conversion for the Rus.

And I think there is a very long list of Christian heads of state who would be very surprised by the notion that Christians do not invade their neighbors, from the sainted Emperors Constantine and Justinian down to Presidents Polk and McKinley (both Methodists). (Though both Constantine and President Polk were only baptized on their deathbeds — perhaps both recognizing that state-craft may well often involve sin.)

Russia’s dealings with the Muslim world are simpler than ours because they only have Sunni enemies. I think Putin is mistaken in his belief that he can use the Iranian regime as a pawn in balance-of-power politics vis-a-vis the U.S. and NATO — he does not regard seriously enough the difference between the Hastener or Ta’ajili sect of Twelver Shia Islam controlling their regime and the orthodox Twelver Shia Islam of, for instance, Ayatollah al-Sistani in Iraq — but this is a matter of flawed judgement, not moral failing.

Russia has religious education in its state schools, a flat income tax, is resisting the homosexualist zeitgeist, since the fall of Communism has begun putting serious restrictions on abortion which in Soviet times was simply used as birth-control. Orthodox monasteries in Russia (and the Russian monastery on Mount Athos) are full as they were under the Tsars.

Remember also the article is a comparison with the West, not the United States. The U.S. still has, by Western standards, a fairly pious people (mostly in what I as an Orthodox Christian regard as the thin and unsatisfying piety of Protestantism), but like Western Europe is led by an “elite” which is openly hostile to Christianity. The West taken as a whole is much further gone — supposedly piously Roman Catholic Ireland has homosexual “marriage” due to an overwhelming vote in a plebiscite, rather than by the imposition of an unelected court, forthright preaching of Christian morality on sexual matters or stating unassailable facts about the warlike nature of Islam are treated as “hate crimes” in Western countries without a proper analogue of the First Amendment, the euthanasia laws in the Low Countries are even more appalling than that in Oregon, and the trend is for the rest of Western Europe to follow suit, while in the U.S. only the Left Coast and the usual bits of New England seem likely to follow Oregon (though the 5 minions of the Evil One on SCOTUS will surely conjure a robust “right to die” out of the 14th Amendment by sheer force of will sooner or later if we don’t find a way of reigning in the Court).

I appreciate your post, and the value of it’s historic mentions.

None the less I don’t think the contemporary issues I raised fail on their merits.

Russia is not the intellectual champion of morality.

Arming an Islamic state with Nuclear weapons is not a reasoned thing to do, and even if for one unmistakable fact. Iran will be able to use it’s nukes against Russia.

What kind of immoral mind must a leader of Russia have, to put his own people in the nuclear sites of a nation like Iran?

I was referencing marvel5’s post. Since he seems to have a thing for the Ruskies, I thought maybe you were saying he was paid to promote them. However that is more thinking that I should be doing today.

Ok, now that makes sense. Either he's getting paid or he just believes in his heart that the KGB thug/snake is a great guy. Problem was you linked to those other guys posts (elhombrelibre and Agog). They are clearly ANTI-Putinistas. I've added both to my FR Putinistas ping list. Hope it's ok with them? :)

The part about Russia might be pure propaganda and disinformation. But the part about us is completely accurate.

Exactly. If we don't right our own ship, it will not matter what other nations do. We will be judged by a righteous God.

I am anti-Putin; he’s hijacked Russia for his own personal agenda. He’s feigning Christianity and is a phony seeking to destroy NATO and restore Russia to its previous role as the primary threat to human liberty in the world.
