David Petraeus' bright idea: give terrorists weapons to beat terrorists
The Guardian ^ | Sept 2, 2015 | Trevor Trimm

The latest brilliant plan to curtail Isis in the Middle East? Give more weapons to current members of al-Qaida. The Daily Beast reported that former CIA director David Petraeus, still somehow entrenched in the DC Beltway power circles despite leaking highly classified secrets, is now advocating arming members of the al-Nusra Front in Syria, an offshoot of al-Qaida and a designated terrorist organization. Could there be a more dangerous and crazy idea?

They bombed the Pentagon, and now the Pentagon
(previously protecting America) will arm them.

So who won?

Those who jumped from the WTC would be astonished
that al Qaeda is in the Pentagon, and funded by
the Pentagon, and that Hasan still breathes.

Great idea. /sarc
So brilliant that only the echelons beyond reality could come up with it.
ISIS is mostly Sunni, and Al Qaeda is mostly Sunni. I wonder how long it would take for Al Qaeda to negotiate a place in the ranks of ISIS.

We have perfectly good potential allies in the area - the Kurds. We should provide THEM with weapons, and air cover to shoot down any Turkish planes that try to bomb them.

Almost as good as giving the Taliban weapons to get the Soviets out of Afghanistan.

“Could there be a more dangerous and crazy idea?”

Well, the US Senate COULD fail to override the certain veto of the refusal of Congress to support the “agreement” that puts Iran on the high road to foment WAY more unrest in the Middle East, with the huge infusion of cash they will be getting very shortly. And shortly thereafter, the introduction of Iran’s own domestically produced nuclear weapons, resulting on a “first strike” against Israel.

“Nuclear envy” is already a force of international and internal policy in the other countries of the Middle East.

I thought of the Kurds, too. Arm the Christians, if they want it.

This coming from a man that let his own personal "weapon" get him in trouble.

West Point needs to be closed until actual military teachers can be found or trained to teach American soldiers how to lead rather than get their men killed and their country beaten.

Lockheed officials have separately downplayed reports that the same F-35, flown by the same pilot, previously lost mock dogfights with the Goodyear Blimp and a beagle on a flying doghouse.

That's good stuff!

RE: David Petraeus’ bright idea: give terrorists weapons to beat terrorists

We’ve already done that in Syria ( thanks to John McCain ).

Over 30 years ago, we also did that to Afghanistan in our war against the Soviets. The end result was the Taliban and Osama Bin Ladin with Mullah Omar having our weapons.

We also sided with Saddam Hussein in his war with Iran and gave him weapons. A lot of good that did us.

Hasn’t he learned his lesson?
