If this resolution passes, we would be forced to close or move. It would destroy Austin barbecue. says Aaron Franklin, owner of Franklins BBQ in Austin.
Austin, Texas has long been a destination for Americans of all stripes in their quest to find the best barbecue in the nation.
However, if the Austin City Council gets their way, food tourism may soon be a thing of the past.
Austin City Council members passed a preliminary plan in April to put restrictions on smoke from barbeque restaurants. Some Austin residents complain of the barbecue smoke saying they cant enjoy their homes they purchased before some of these restaurants moved in.
The city councils current proposal will require smoke diffusers and will also limit the amount of time that restaurants can smoke. These restrictions will require at least $100,000 in extra investments for most barbecue restaurants as they will be forced to buy extra smokers along with severely expensive diffusers, and in some cases will have to lease or purchase more property.

Hmmm, how big is the muzzie population in Austin?
Dang vegetarians.....................
I think the problem is when you mix restaurants and housing or retail and housing together.
Although Austin is surrounded by Texas, it is a little...shall we say...”different” from Texas.
I don’t know about muzzies but Austin is “liberal central” here in Texas that’s a certainty.
Most Texas BBQ is beef. So, the MooseLimbs are ok with it
The BBQ could be done at a different location, say just outside the city limits, and then brought in.......................
No BBQ, it is air pollution!
Well you can take the yeehaw out of THAT part of Texas.
When are they going to start suing forest fires?
Sounds like zoning really screwed this up from the get-go if the houses were there first.
Banning BBQ in Texas is just wrong.
Austin, the liberal cesspool of Texas.
Glad Rush talked about it, but this died in committee in May. Not saying it won’t be brought back at some point though...

Not so much Mussies, probably Mooshelle Food Fascist Sycophants.
Ex-Post Facto. Sue the ever lovin’ hell out of ‘em.
They don’t deserve to call themselves Texans.
Just enjoyed the wonderful Gospel Sunday BBQ Brunch at Stubb’s.... Shame. “City Councils,” especially in a place like Austin, are generally comprised of retired government workers who have no idea how livings are made and jobs are created: they are simply leeches who ponder and philosophize about optimal ways to harness producers. Because they are generally on pensions, they have nothing to lose... Except a semblance of discomfort when one of them - for this is what has happened - must smell the smell of BBQ from her swanky rooftop terrace.
Get a Rope!
Hey, I have a recipe! You take one tree branch and add a good length of strong rope.
Preparation time is about 10 minutes.
If I were a restauranteur in Austin, I’d get together with the other BBQ owners and purchase a place just outside the city limits where they all could do their cooking, and make sure the wind was blowing in the right direction.........................
Austin = Ithaca of the South
