Former President George H.W. Bush fell Wednesday while at his summer home in Kennebunkport, Maine, breaking a vertebrae in his neck, but "it was not life threatening," his spokesman Jim McGrath told CNN.
Bush was taken to a hospital in nearby Portland where he is "very stable," McGrath said.
The former president was never disoriented.
"We are not expecting a long stay," McGrath said, though he added Bush would be treated with a neck brace.

He broke a bone in his neck. He is very lucky its not even more serious. When the elderly fall at home they are more likely to die from that than anything else. My neighbor died a few weeks ago from a fall at home, she was 87, refused to ever walk with a cane, she was stubborn that way, wanted to be independent. Somebody told him about Obama’s Iran deal and he blacked out.
The majority of Senior Citizens (65+) who fall and break a hip are typically dead 18 months later.
My rheumatologist told me that. My mother fell and broke her hip, she passed just over a year later.
I just remembered he jumped in a tandem sky dive for his 90th birthday, he’s a tough old boy.

Forgive me but I wanted Carter to go first. I know both will be gone soon but to think that we lose George HW Bush before Carter is depressing.

My friend shattered her hip at 95.
She lived fully for another 6.5 years....
He probably won’t be doing that again.
Most of the photos I’ve seen of GHWB lately, he’s been in a wheelchair.
I guess I have some different feelings toward our former presidents. There are so few of them, and it’s sad when we lose any of them. However, having said that - I’m not sure I have any feeling at all for the current squatter in the WH. He is just an evil man. I suppose I’ll have to repent of these feelings, but, I can’t help it.

I’m sorry for the loss of your mother. My own mother fell in March and broke her hip and a couple of ribs. She died in April.
