The Right to be Free From Guns (barf alert)
Real Clear Politics ^ | 25 june 2015 | E.J. Dionne,Jr.

WASHINGTON -- Advocates of a saner approach to guns need a new strategy. We cannot go on like this, wringing our hands in frustration after every tragedy involving firearms. We said "Enough" after Sandy Hook. We thought the moment for action had come. Yet nothing happened. We are saying "Enough" after Charleston. But this time, we don't even expect anything to happen.

What's needed is a long-term national effort to change popular attitudes toward handgun ownership. And we need to insist on protecting the rights of Americans who do not want to be anywhere near guns.

None of this should mean letting Congress off the hook or giving up on what might be done now. So kudos to Sens. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and Pat Toomey, R-Pa., for saying on Tuesday that they are looking for ways to bring back their proposal that would require background checks for gun sales. In 2013, it failed to get the needed 60 votes and won support from only three Republicans besides Toomey.

If they want to be free from guns, they can move to any fascist or communist country of their choice that bans them. At least we will never hear them whine again....

There is no such “right”.

It is that simple.

So, E.J., Dylan Roof passed a NICS check and purchased the gun used in the senseless slaughter legally. What new law would you propose that would have stopped him?

Gun violence can be reduced by approx. 70% overnight, DJ, if you simply don’t allow blacks to possess firearms as they’re responsible for the majority of firearms-related violence in this country.

Too much for your lefty soul to absorb I’ll bet.

“Americans who don't want to be anywhere near a gun . . .”

Pack your bags, your behind, and go live in China, Cuba, Iran, N. Korea, Vietnam, pick your socialist communist country!

Leave the other 95% of Americans who support, defend, and are proud to exercise their 2nd amendment rights under the US Constitution alone. Problem solved!

Exactly! If it is so important for them they have plenty of options. They have the “liberty” to go. We have the liberty to own firearms. They can either educate themselves and resolve their delusional phobia or leave. End of debate.

We cannot go on like this, wringing our hands in frustration after every tragedy involving firearms.

Let me guess. He wants to ban guns so this won't happen. EJ is an idiot or a liar. He's an idiot if he thinks banning guns will remove them from the criminal element. Hey, crack, heroine, and the like are illegal too EJ, are they gone? Child abuse, rape, murder - all illegal, yet criminals still commit these crimes. EJ, why would you think banning guns would be any different? You're an idiot EJ if you think it would be. EJ, you're a liar if you know it wouldn't be any different and yet you still advocate for "gun control." Personally EJ, I think you're both an idiot and a liar.

And we need to insist on protecting the rights of Americans who do not want to be anywhere near guns.

On your property EJ, you have that freedom. I also have some freedoms and rights - the right to keep and bear arms. My right is protected from infringement by the US Constitution.

So, let’s see:

1. Right to be free from guns
2. Right to be free from offensive speech
3. Right to unearned prosperity
4. Right to free unicorn rides

UNMITAGATED BULLSH!T!! What we need is VERY strong penalties (mandatory jail sentences) for crimes committed with a gun. Make gun crime a Federal Offence just like bank robbery and kidnapping.
Unfortunately, the politicians don't have the cajones to inact such measures.

No one on the planet is free from weapons....and never have been. So not only is it not a right, it is indeed merely a utopian fantasy.

The nation could ring out with the new slogans of liberty: "Not in my house." "Not in our school." "Not in my bar." "Not in our church." We'd be defending one of our most sacred rights: The right not to bear arms.

First, you have to make everyone too stupid to realize that what you want is not really a "right not to bear arms", but a power to prevent anyone else from doing it.

He does hav the right to be free from firearms, he don’t have to buy one. Just leave the rest of us alone. The 2nd Amendment is a right, it is not up for negotiation.

What he or any of the other zealots out there WON’T say is that the only law that would have stopped it was the one that says “manufacture, sale, import, transfer, ownership or possession of ANY gun is illegal”.

That law.

It’s our right to not be near any anti 2AMD people. We need to get them removed from our communities and placed in isolated communities of like minded people so they do not offend us any more wit htheir constant microaggressions and macroaggressions. I will go to my safe room now and squeeze play doh.

No. Expanding the law enforcement power of the central government is a really, really bad idea. Sounds like something Obama, Schumer, and Feinstein would want.

There are already calls for federalizing your local cops and sheriffs, who will be our only line of defense when the current tyranny takes off its smiley face, and that idea feeds right into that theme.

That's easy. Ban all ownership of guns and send everyone who has ever owned one to the camps.
