January 29, 2015: Israel believes Iran is now helping Hezbollah to build tunnels under the Lebanese border. The evidence is piling up and an effort is underway to find and breach one and examine it. Since the 50 Day War with Hamas ended last August in Gaza Israel has been examining the massive amounts of evidence it collected in the 32 Hamas tunnels into Israel that were discovered and destroyed. Comparing notes with the CIA and other Western intel agencies it was determined that these tunnels were of a new design probably supplied by Iran. Apparently nearly $100 million of the aid Iran supplied to Hamas to help the Palestinians instead went into building these elaborate tunnels. Israel determined that each of these tunnels required 350 truckloads of construction material and were built to specifications similar those described by agent reports of such tunnels inside Iran.
Israel believes that Hamas is already resumed building new tunnels into Israel. This time the Israelis expect to have an easier time detecting them when the digging crosses the border. The first time around Iranian advisors have taught Hamas well how to keep the tunnel construction secret and even Israeli informants inside Gaza were not able to obtain many details. The Israelis knew such tunnels existed but little else before the 50 Day War. This was apparently because of Iranian help in counterintelligence (defeating enemy espionage efforts). Israel had their suspicions and that was one reason Israel sent troops (and intelligence specialists to collect evidence) in during July 2014.
The cross border tunnels can be a powerful weapon, if you can keep them secret. So far none of Israel’s enemies have been able to do that. But Hamas came close in Gaza and that shook up the Israelis quite a bit and both sides are making more efforts in this area. Israel cannot afford to lose this battle, because undetected tunnels can be used to launch terror raids and, worse, kidnap Israelis and hold them for ransom.
Drill a hole into the tunnel meeting them at some strategic point.
Let the Islamists run into the tunnel and then Israel can break through the tunnel, behind them and flood the area with gas, soap and shoe goo.

Hamas and Hezbollah are essentially Iranian proxies. The Palestinians have received real support from Iran. It is becoming increasingly clear that war with Iran is a strategic necessity for Israel. Israel regardless of US and world opinion cannot leave Iran’s nuclear infrastructure intact, functional and unmolested.

Actually, No. Hamas and Hezbollah are two different entities and Often receive different support.
Hezbollah has been and still is very indigenous to Lebanon. Way before Iranians mullahs came along. Surprisingly or not, both Hamas & Hezbollah (under different banners, especially for the former) have been around in that specific region fighting Israel way before Iranian Mullahs came to power, or Iran's regime ever aided them; and at that Mostly Hezbollah since 1979 regime change in Iran.
Other than that, most Arabs consider Hamas (never mind Iranian mullahs) a terrorist grp, who make deals with Israel too. Hezbollah is a different ballgame and viewed legit (indigenous) in Lebanon, by most average Arabs.

Well, Israel needs to look inside its own too, just as the U.S. and others do, regarding Hamas and terrorism.

If the Israelis really want to raise the degree of difficulty for the tunnel diggers, it is relatively cheap to pump either fresh or salt water underground. If they try to pump it out, their pumps must run continually, or their tunnels will flood. And even then, it is not a good solution.
And underground water breaks down tunnel ceiling and walls very fast, and often with little warning. Miners are terrified of underground floods with good reason.
The best part is that water seeks tunnels like it seeks its own level. Imagine the hilarity of tunnel diggers tapping in to an invisible, underground lake.
A geologist could likely tell them where to pump the water down, and at what depth.
