German paper says Iranians paid cash to build mid-range missile launch pads on Paraguana Peninsula; Iranian engineers visited site in Feb.
BERLIN The Iranian government is moving forward with the construction of rocket launch bases in Venezuela, the German daily Die Welt wrote in its Friday edition.
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is Teherans most important South American ally.
Iran is building intermediate- range missile launch pads on the Paraguaná Peninsula, and engineers from a construction firm Khatam al-Anbia owned by the Revolutionary Guards visited Paraguaná in February. Amir al-Hadschisadeh, the head of the Guards Air Force, participated in the visit, according to the report. Die Welt cited information from Western security insiders.
The rocket bases are to include measures to prevent air attacks on Venezuela as well as commando and control stations.
The Iranian military involvement in the project extends to bunker, barracks and watch tower construction. Twenty-meter deep rocket silos are planned. The cost of the Venezuelan military project is being paid for with Iranian oil revenue.
According to Die Welt, the clandestine agreement between Venezuela and Iran would mean the Chavez government would fire rocket at Irans enemies should the Islamic Republic face military strikes

Wow, Obama’s own Cuban missile crisis! Can’t wait to see him call Venezuela’s and Iran’s bluff... not!
The only reason Iran is doing this is to attack the U.S.A. with nuclear weapons.
We should take out those missile launch sites NOW!
Iran is building a training course for future US Navy Seal teams eh?
His toughest move would be to request a letter of condemnation from the UN.
He doesn’t currently have any missiles which can reach the US from Chavez land.
The White Hut is celebrating!
Of course Obama will do NOTHING about this. We will have to wait for two years and nuclear missiles being placed before a single thing will be done.
Premier Hussein doesn’t have the stones to pull off a Cuban Missile Crisis; and besides, he and Chavez are buddies...
Hell I can’t wait to see the MSM report it (bet they don’t anytime soon.) If a crisis goes down in the woods...
No doubt the undocumented Imam already gave them
targeting info against America for his 57 states.
Comparing Mr. Obama to Presidents Kennedy or Reagan leaves me wondering whether to laugh or cry.
....and just the ability to threaten our Allies in the region can do enough to destabilize all of South America...right in our back yard
I think the range is currently 1800 miles which won’t even hit the keys from the closest point in Venz.
Another 500 miles or so to hit Miami.
What worries me isn’t Iran or Venezuela’s current technology, or further development thereof, but rather the prospect of Iran/Venezuela acquiring a more capable design from another country by what ever means. They could do so rather abruptly.
And he has shown the Machiavellian propensity to order the strikes and order "the kill shot" just to increase his rise in the popularity polls. Actually, being a committed Marxist-Leninist from his earlier days, it does not surprise me that he has a killer instinct.
My take? He will let this fester and fester for months, and then pull a Cuban missile crisis in the final days of the reelection campaign. Idiots who know nothing and are easily "flipped" will whoop and holler and yell "USA!" in droves and reelect this bastard on the strength of that alone, even with 23% unemployment and $6 for gas. Obama knows American mass mentality. Believe me, he will leverage it. And at the right time. He is also surrounded by opportunitists who would not only encourage him into this action, but fully support him as well.
So what. I see no reason to wait until they do.
I found a story from Jerusalem Post which didn’t have good news. Old article but said Iran got some missiles from North Korea which would have the range to hit the US. Plus their ability to put small payloads in orbit means they could put a very small warhead (300 Kg) on Washington.
I checked Google earth. Its 1800 km from Venz to the southern tip of the US. The above article says those NK weapons have ranges of 2500 -3500KM.
Where is the Monroe Doctrine when we need it?
No problem, let’s go bomb Libya.
Exactly. Once the bases are built, nothing exists to prevent a better class of missiles from being based there.
In any case, its a provocation. A real attack would probably come in a container ship, maybe several container ships simultaneously. They are building these bases to rub our noses in it.
That would piss off the Hispanics voters. Obama does nothing OTOH Columbia ....
You may well be right.
Iran is building intermediate- range missile launch pads on the Paraguaná Peninsula, and engineers from a construction firm-- Khatam al-Anbia -- owned by the Revolutionary Guards visited Paraguaná in February.
Thank god Chavez is a peaceful man of the people or this would be concerning. :)
Do we have any. I thought 0 had pissed them all off already.
Yeah 3500 km goes all the way up to the very southern tip of Maine. over to the eastern great lakes and down to eastern texas.
I’m using google earth’s rulers function. You place one point in Venz and then you can swing the other end of the line anywhere you want and it tells you the distance.
Pretty much indefensible from an attack by sea.
If Republicans don’t use pics such as this one uing the campaign, they are idiots. ESPECIALLY with the high gas prices.
Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, both U.S. territories with strategic military importance, are just 500 miles from Venezuela. With these missiles, Iran poses a threat to the approaches to the Panama Canal and to world trade.
Well, I hope the US keeps it mouth shut and allows them to dump a pile of cash into it...then blow it to hell a few days before it’s operational.
That they are...
Just a suggestion...put your head in the toilet and flush 10 times. After that..if you don’t have a clear thought then get in tough and I can have a Saturday Night Special ready to send to you to blow you stupid brains out.
Iranian Missiles in Venzuela.....”the clandestine agreement between Venezuela and Iran would mean the Chavez government would fire rocket at Irans enemies should the Islamic Republic face military strikes.”
Well this does sound like a pre-lude to a Cuban Missle Crisis type event. Few people, apart from FR, realiz how close we came...just a finger away.
And what does Barry have to say about this?...nothing I suppose.
Think of it this way. Our new President in 2013 will have a purpose for all those spare nukes we have lying around that we thought we would never use.
“Premier Hussein” could very well be staging this by allowing it to go far enough so he can come in at the last moment as a hero...pulling a Ben-Laden type hero event.
Sometimes its all the same.
Seems like a GOP contender could make this an issue in the primaries. Obomba probably does want to sit on this info until he benefits the most from it, and do agree with you that Barry does have the mindset of a killer. I happen to think that he is a sociopath as well as a Marxist, but either way, he won’t lose sleep over slaughtering people to gain a few votes here or there.
It is less than 2,000 kilometers from the Paraguana Peninsula to Miami. That is within the range of an Iranian Shahab-4, Shahab-5, or Shahab-6 missile.
Put down the vodka before you hurt yourself.
It’s 1800 km from the two closest points. Depending on the model some sources say their missiles will have adequate range. Some sources say they don’t.
US CentCOM is in Tampa, right?
Yes Centcom HQ is in Tampa, about 15 miles from where I’m sitting.
Yes, thats why I put the word in there.
Although some sources indicate he does have missiles with adequate range. The two closest points are about 1800 km using google earths ruler.
