Obama's Free Community College Idea May Be Hard Sell
ABC News ^ | 01/09/15 | Devin Dwyer

Free community college for all. Conversation-starter? Definitely. Political possibility? Not any time soon. President Obama unveiled the idea in a video posted to Facebook on Thursday night. But administration officials provided no price tag, no legislation, and little evidence of Republican support on Capitol Hill. But the White House says that’s beside the point at this stage. The president hopes “to start a conversation,” Obama domestic policy adviser Cecilia Munoz told reporters.

Why not a free car to get to the free education...? "the proposal would cost the federal government an estimated $60 billion over 10 years, in addition to tens of billions of dollars in commitments from the states?" This dipwad can't piss away taxpayer's money fast enough!

Free means someone else pays.
Everything with these people is about taking money from those who produce it and giving it to those who vote democrat.

Why should we take tax dollars, send them to the government, which then will take out billions and billions in administrative costs, and then send a portion back to the states where there will be even more administrative costs?

When it doesn’t happen, the 2016 campaign will be “Republicans don’t want you to have an education.”

Why doesn't he just issue a doctorate's degree to all welfare recipients. It would produce pretty much the same end result, but save everyone time and money.

Oh wait... the whole point of this is to please the teachers' unions.

Everyone should go to Obama’s speeches about free Community College Education and hold up signs “The Pell Grant Program already exists.”

I’d like to know how the upcoming crop of ‘genius’ kids who can’t even READ coming out of high school are going to be able to go on to higher education in areas that are even MORE technical.

A Mechanic who can’t read, or do math? Yeah, that’ll work. *Rolleyes*

Oh, wait. The REAL money is in computer programming! Let’s all be Gamers! *SNORT*

But, Hey! It’s FREEEEEEEE!

Meanwhile, isn’t community college practically free as it is? I would venture to guess that most CC students pay more for their cell phones every year than their education.

More "help" from the feds?

They don't want to "help." Using the "help" ruse is how they get their foot in the door. The want to CONTROL.

More CONTROL from the feds.

I don’t see any problem with this. Just make the liberal profs teach for free and the liberal administrators run the programs without pay. Those two things should keep the costs reasonable for the taxpayers.

Poor people can already go to community college for free via Pell Grants. If the government were to get rid of Pell grants and put some merit component (like maintain a B average) on the "free" community college and stop giving Pell grant money to private colleges, I think he could probably sell it. Though I'd like to see the federal government completely out of higher education, I personally would find a free merit based community college scholarship preferable to our current system.

The Pell Grant Program pays for Community College for poor students....not to be repaid.

The whole thing is so out of control that no piecemeal measures will fix it. This is one cog in the larger corrupt machine, and the only way to “fix” it, is to scrap it, and start over. Read into that what you will.
