WASHINGTON – President Obama on Thursday proposed making community college free "for everybody who is willing to work for it." In a video posted on Facebook, the president previewed his plan, which will be formally announced during a trip to Tennessee Friday. "It's not for kids," Obama said. "We also have to make sure that everybody has the opportunity to constantly train themselves for better jobs, better wages, better benefits."

The proposal drew an immediate critical response from House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, who said, "with no details or information on the cost, this seems more like a talking point than a plan."

Hey Obama, go to Cuba, and take your family with you. Enjoy your free education and healthcare.

And way to go Johnny. Sounds like he's waiting to hear more about this communist proposal.

Free means someone else pays.
He wants this to be first step to completely “free” college.

What demographics is he headed for? Or is this just another way of pulling information about our bank accounts. It's sure not going to be a no questions asked "program".

And what will be the trade off....community service??...like he did?? Betcha!!

The ‘RATS are falling back on the “Free Lunch” strategy. Barry, I’ve got news for you—in basketball, you can’t coach height and elsewhere, you can’t teach IQ.

This is another attempt to buy votes and, as a bonus, further weaken and destroy America.

In the 1950s my cousin went through medical school with a program that paid if one signed up to work in underserved areas for a certain number of years. He chose to work on an Indian reservation, and then settled in Arizona for the rest of his life.

Undoubtedly. Back in the early '80s I heard Sam Blumenfeld say that the Progressives want "free" daycare/schooling from birth through age 22, so no surprise here.

I'm afraid that Johnny will want to hear more about the proposal, and is willing to reach across the aisle.

Free Childcare. Free Health Insurance. Free college.

Except it all has to be paid for...and generally, that appears to be whitey's job.

According to a White House press release, federal funding would cover three-quarters of the average cost of community college and states that choose to participate will be expected to contribute the remaining funds necessary.

OK so if 3/4 of the money to pay comes from the feds and only 1/4 from the state... where does the fed money come from?... ...

My gosh this group is dunderheaded. Two things going on here - an attempt to overwhelm the opposition and an attempt to get population hooked on another freebie so feds can stop "contributing" and use political pressure to force states continue paying 100% of the cost - like 0bamacare does.

Luckily, the clock is running out on this loser. He can be stymied now - but will he be?

What a horrible, tragic mistake America made with its PC election of this articulate, unsmelly man.

I’d think they are (publicly) targeting the young voters who are waking up to the fact that they have a dark future ahead of them. Many are opting out of college due to lack of funds and the realization that many jobs won’t even be here when they finish anyway.

Beneath the surface, this is to subsidize the education establishment.

Obama will destroy what makes Tennessee's Community Colleges a huge plus value in education. For example Pellissippi State where he will speak today is affordable enough so even a student living at home slinging burgers part time can pay their own tuition and leave school with a degree and debt free. It doesn't have the required PC courses the universities have. Obama will force these colleges {by taking federal funding in his program} to offer his crap course on diversity etc etc. This will in turn drive up the tax burden on the state and federal government.

Our Community College Program in Tennessee isn't broken, is a higher quality education system above the larger state universities, and doesn't need Obama fixing it for us. I'm contacting my General Assembly members to encourage them to decline the offer. Tennessee is two house majority GOP so maybe they will decline it. The huge problem will be two RINO US Senators and a RINO governor.

My wife has been taking courses at the local community college since she retired. The quality of the courses seems to be fairly good, and one definite advantage the community college has over private colleges is that the tuition and fees are fairly cheap.

I'd expect that to change if congress listens to him. The easiest way to make anything ridiculously expensive -- from health care to education -- is to ask congress to make it "free".

I like that idea. You get to practice your career. It sounds like a win win.

Obama will destroy what makes Tennessee's Community Colleges a huge plus value in education.

All this will do is water down the value of schooling even more. College is now what high school used to be. The value will decrease even more, and waste 4 years of students' lives, when they would be better off gaining work experience.

As a thought experiment...

What happens to ‘Community Colleges’ when MUY’s (Minority Urban Youth’s’ decide that their campuses ‘deserve’ their presence and turn them into the modern equivalent of the Mall where they fight over ‘turf’ and make the whole learning experience a complete disaster for those who really want an education? One I mean that is not filled with fear of not being able to make the next class or even making it home.

What Obama's going to do is just keep tossing out these ideas, just because it's fun to see which Republicans will go along with them. Meanwhile, they're not passing Keystone, abolishing the Obamacare mandate, doing everthing they can to reverse the invasion of the US, or doing anything else they should be doing as a majority.

Notice that Obama came back to DC after vacation, but hasn't spent much time in DC this week? Why should he? His destruction of the US has been financed for the next year, the new HOR reps backstabbed us before they even unpacked, and he's all set. Why would Obama deal with the HOR or US Senate at all, except for these dispruptive initiatives?

That's the way I see it anyway.
