Venezuelas leaders arent taking the ongoing McDonalds french fry shortage in their country too well.
Publicly sponsored news outlets, government officials, and even the countrys president, Nicolás Maduro, have all responded to McDonalds unthinkable french fry shortage, which spans all 100 outlets in the country, by publicly criticizing the chain, and its french fries.
One of the loudest responses came from Telesur, a state-sponsored news outlet, which wasted no time in getting to what it views as the heart of the issue. The outlet published a story headlined, McDonalds joins economic war against Venezuela, not-so-subtly suggesting that the lack of fried potato sticks is somehow tied to a broader war being waged by the United States and its capitalistic ways. McDonalds said theres been a shortage since it had trouble importing potatoes. But Telesur says thats all a lie.
The U.S. multinational fast-food chain is claiming it cannot get potatoes in Venezuela, despite the fact other restaurants do not have the same problem, the article begins.
Articles have also surfaced on Apporea, a pro-government website, about separate, isolated food safety scares at McDonalds in other parts of the world (in this case, Japan and China). The article, titled McDonalds apologizes after a tooth and plastic are found in its food, is one of the few pieces published this week by the outlet that is not about a domestic matter.
Public figures, including Venezuelas president, have also taken to Twitter. This week, sandwiched between tweets about domestic issues and an international investment deal with China, President Maduro retweeted a tweet by news outlet Russia Today, which translates roughly to Japan: Human tooth found in french fries at a McDonalds.
Maduro also retweeted a tweet by Roberto Hernández, Venezuelas Minister for Labor and Social Security, which calls McDonalds french fries cancerous.

VZ used to be an exporter of food. It’s been an importer of about 2/3 of its food for years now, shortly after the start of the Glorious Communist Populist Elected Stupidity.
Economic war? I guess people who have zero understanding of economics can see economic war wherever they want.
IOW, they need a foreign scapegoat to distract Venezuelans from the real problem, which is the regime.
Next step will be further escalation, consisting of regime takeover of McD in V.
par for the course
might get nationalized soon.... McHugo’s
They’re tight with Cuber, right?
I wonder if Baraq’s embrace of the Castros is partly to help out Venezuela?
It’s our fault? Really? Do the citizens believe that? If they wouldn’t have voted in Socialism, they’d be doing better.
Terrible tasting tater tots being served in North Korea's concentration camps considered an insult to Kim Dung.
Violent single digit IQ terrorists kill several people because they didnt like a cartoon... oops that one already happened
Remember when we blamed the Soviet Union for getting rid of Classic Coke back in the ‘80’s?
....neither does anyone else...
you say potato, and I say patata, you say tomato, and I say tomate...
The founders of this nation were absolutely correct. You cannot let everyone vote. You *MUST* restrict the vote to taxpayers and landowners.
Where we have gone wrong is letting the non-contributors have a vote. It's like two wolves and a sheep voting on dinner.
Venezuela has (or had) price controls on food. If McDonalds cannot purchase potatoes at a price that is below what it can sell the fries for, then they will choose to not do so. Pretty basic, if you ask me.
Populism is a disease and a curse brought in by the (m)asses themselves.
And that’s why nobody produces potatoes either.
Ah, the glories of socialism and total government control...
I’m sure it is. Cuba is in dire economic straights now - since it doesn’t produce anything - and actually hasn’t been able to help VZ (except by providing its secret police) for a long time. The drop in oil prices has meant that VZ is doing even worse than it was a couple of months ago, when it was already near death and they’d run out of toilet tissue, so VZ can’t help Cuba either.
And Bambi steps into the breach. I bet we’ll be giving Cuba foreign aid in no time at all, probably by letting them collect the “rent” on Gitmo.
Hey Chavez and Maduro, “You want fries with that”?
Marie Antoinette: I’d prefer a good cake, myself.
Seems to be some truth in the matter

Port disruptions on the West Coast due to labor contract negotiations between the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) and Pacific Maritime Association (PMA) are hurting Idaho agriculture and Idahos exporters.
The problems at West Coast ports are numerous including congestion, slowdowns and terminal closures. All of which are contributing to product delays, lack of available equipment, increased costs and lost sales.
Quite humorous that unions are the real culprit in the socialist paradise of Venezuela Mickey D's French Fry shortage...
In the last couple of elections who counted the votes has mattered more.
On my trips to Venezuela you would often see graffiti of the McD”s arches with a red line crossing them out. I thought it was funny because every McD’s we went to was packed.
BTW, they were just like the McD’s here except they were cleaner, faster, and the food fresher.
I guess the guys at the Soylent Corporation test labs still have some fine-tuning to complete.
