Disaster Declaration Planned for Ebola Fight

Dallas County Commissioners will hold a special meeting Thursday to declare a disaster over "the potential for widespread or severe damage, injury, loss or threat of life resulting from the Ebola virus."

The declaration could help officials impose new travel restrictions on health care workers who may have cared for the first Dallas Ebola patient, Thomas Eric Duncan.

Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins said Dallas County Medical Director Dr. Christopher Perkins will sign a control order that will follow the minimum guidelines outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, blocking those being monitored for Ebola symptoms from using public transportation, including buses and airliners.

It comes after revelations Wednesday that the third Dallas Ebola patient, Amber Vinson, a nurse at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, returned from a trip to Ohio with a slight fever after caring for Duncan, who died at the hospital last week.

Texas, first declaration of Martial Law? Red state. Seems fishy that it would be Texas.

Ad hoc muddling through, that’s for sure. But if Duncan had flown to NYC, who knows what contingency plan they had, other than their senator Schumer gassing.

This is not nuclear physics. There is no cure or vaccine. Infected individuals may not exhibit symptoms for up to six weeks. If the government continues to allow air travelers from West Africa to enter the country, there will be more deaths and hugely expensive endemics in the United States.

Ol Rick should quarantine the whole state and ground air traffic. No idea how far this is going to spread now. The CDC LET a woman with a FEVER who was recently EXPOSED to EBOLA FLY on a flight FULL of NURSES FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY!

IF THIS WAS NOT INTENTIONAL, THEN WHAT WAS IT? Every single person in government supporting Obama’s narrative is a traitor. Worthy of 6 feet of rope and a lamp post.

I think all air travel should be shut down for at least 21 days - if that is really the period during which anyone who is going to get it comes down with it.

Just seems to me it’s insanity to allow even the slightest possibility that people who are affected are traveling on airplanes - and for all we know they’re contagious before they start showing a temperature.

Air travel was shut down after 911 - it wasn’t the end of the world. The US survived. If we’re going to prevent massive ebola deaths then it seems we need drastic action.

Anyone who gets into a titanium test tube now needs to be mentally evaluated IMO.

If anyone thinks todays 400 intraday dow drop was spectacular, if the government institutes an air travel ban, that 400 point drop will be amplified by a ten factor.

So let me get this straight. The reason we are NOT issuing a travel ban on West Africa is there is NO risk of asymptomatic people transmitting Ebola.
But asymptomatic US HEALTHCARE WORKERS are now banned from travel and public transport?
Can we go to the gym?
Grocery store?
See a movie?
Can they go to work?

Does anyone NOT see what a cluster f##k is going to develop if more Ebola patients are allowed into the US from West Africa.

Are you going to shut down the highways, buses and trains too?
Seriously? Just shoot the economy in the head and be done with it.

The correct answer here is a travel ban on West Africa AND increased control at the border.

21 days just about brings us right up to the election. No way Obama allows something as drastic as a three week long air travel shutdown to be fresh in people’s minds as they go into the voting booths.

No, can’t shut own highways...but it’s a lot harder to infect multitudes from a car and the number of people who will take a bus are limited and seems to me a train has a limited area compared to a plane.

As for the economy - if we have massive ebola infections a lot more than the economy will take the hit.

I remember the POLIO epidemic of the 1950s, a truly frightening time.

Ebola is no laughing matter if it does suddenly break out and spread.

I don't remember the old timers laughing about Yellow Fever, Cholera and Diphtheria and smallpox.

No need to panic, just keep an eye on it and take precautions as necessary. Now if we could just get the Obama administration on board to contain this.
