Obesity rates reach historic highs in more U.S. states
MSN News ^ | September 4, 2014 | Reuters

Rates of adult obesity increased in six U.S. states and fell in none last year, and in more states than ever - 20 - at least 30 percent of adults are obese, according to an analysis released on Thursday.

The conclusions were reported by the Trust for America's Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and were based on federal government data. They suggest the problem may be worsening despite widespread publicity about the nation's obesity epidemic, from First Lady Michelle Obama and many others, plus countless programs to address it.

From 2011 to 2012, by comparison, the rate of obesity increased in only one state.

The 2013 adult obesity rate exceeds 20 percent in every state, while 42 have rates above 25 percent. For the first time two states, Mississippi and West Virginia, rose above 35 percent. The year before, 13 states were above 30 percent and 41 had rates of at least 25 percent.

The American people are becoming fatter and dumber.

One third of young people are now obese. The number was less than 5% when I was growing up.

The USA over-produces corn, due to heavy government subsidies on that and sugar. We are like hogs being fattened for slaughter

There is no country with a falling obesity rate. Little comfort in numbers this time but along with us about a third of the world is overweight.

I don’t know what is going, it does not seem to be that so many people are fat nowadays, unless I am not noticing.

Full employment would do wonders to this trend.

Likely the result of the failure of the nutrition "know it alls" and their emphasis on a low-fat, no-red-meat, no-dairy, no-egg, high-carbohydrate diet.

The exact opposite, a high-fat, low-carb diet, is actually what the human body is designed to use efficiently.

This has everything to do with the ingestion of high glycemic foods, high sugar, high glycemic diet of every day fast food that have yielded the scourge of self-induced diabetes, diabetes 2, ass opposed to the genetic, inherited type, diabetes 1, that is turning into a global epidemic, repercussions of which causing more harm than AIDS could ever do.

Spend less money on food and more time working out. Problem solved.

Fat, like smoking, is a choice; ‘do what thou wilt’ just don’t ask me to pay for the results of your poor choices.

Eat fewer calories than you burn, you *WILL* lose weight, anyone saying otherwise is an ignorant idiot.

You are ignorant.

It is not “calories in...calories out”. Read up.

It is how your body handles fat, protein, and carbohydrates.

Our nation’s overweight problems are linked to our increased consumption of convenience foods and other foods that are high in carbohydrate counts.

Not so.

In fact, the history of nutrition and diet studies is replete with baffled scientists trying to figure out why many people can't lose weight by eating less and exercising.

Around 20 percent of young people in this country are now Hispanic, meaning mostly mestizo and Amerindian, who tend to be obese on the modern high-carb, abundant diet.

In my elementary graduating class, 70 children, there was one obese girl, and about four kids who were chubby/beefy.
