Yes, I agree, but since 1946 separation of church and state has been codified into USA law - legal or not!
(All governments have a founding religious philosophy, whether its Islam, communism, Christian, atheistic secular paganism, or whatever. Similar to every individual has a religious worldview, but they may or may not recognize it. I recognize my worldview as Christian, and I want my government to be based on Christianity - just like the founding fathers wanted it to be and started it out as.)

Have a look at the story of William Wilberforce who was a British politician and almost single handedly ended the English slave trade. Being a Christian is not something you do part time.

I am not sure where you see the dates, because the year you posted isn’t correct. I don’t see any dates on LOC. I may not be looking in the right place though.

I apologize, I got the year wrong, it is 1777. Scroll down the page and it is 4th or 5th from the bottom titled Atkins Bible with text on the left and image of journal on right. It may have taken a day to put in the journal.
Of course, to hold any public office in Virginia at the time you had to demonstrate an affiliation with a state church.

My Note:
there no such thing as a Separation of Church and State. It was a letter written by Jefferson to a few Boston people, after the Constitution was written and ratified.
Our Constitution states that the State shall not establish a formal religion belonging to the State.
Someone needs a history class and stop pushing this bullshit around!
