The lessons are timeless regardless of one’s belief. In the book of Exodus you will find one of the greatest lessons on leadership and the selection of an appropriate successor.

Many great stories and lessons in that Book.

But, but, but, what about all the crony lobbyist payoff money? God certainly wouldn't expect us here in DC to refuse that.

for most in DC who would dare touch the Bible would likely come away with burned fingers. Not from God of course but their real master would have none of that.

During the Revolutionary War the British editions of the King James Version supply was cut off to the American colonies as the authorized English language Bibles in the United States.

Congress authorized a loan of money to help the printing and distribution of this approved Bible to be made available to the public and printed by Robert Aitken in 1782. He printed 10,000 copies.

Here is the Journal of Congress, September 12, 1782.

The entry in Congress' journal on September 12 shows the correspondence and resolution authorizing the Aitken Bible.

I must confess that any suggestion that the USA’s constitution be anything like the USSR’s in wording still gets me going, though.
In order to ensure to citizens freedom of conscience, the church in the U.S.S.R. is separated from the state, and the school from the church. Freedom of religious worship and freedom of antireligious propaganda is recognized for all citizens.

Article 124 of 1936 “Stalin Constitution”

Citizens of the USSR are guaranteed freedom of conscience, that is, the right to profess or not to profess any religion, and to conduct religious worship or atheistic propaganda. Incitement of hostility or hatred on religious grounds is prohibited. In the USSR, the church is separated from the state, and the school from the church.

Article 52, 1977 “Brezhnev Constitution”
So in general, any blurting out of the phrase “separation of church and state” is echoic of that law and its meaning rather than Jefferson’s letter to the Danbury Baptists.

Yes, I agree, but since 1946 separation of church and state has been codified into USA law - legal or not!

(All governments have a founding religious philosophy, whether its Islam, communism, Christian, atheistic secular paganism, or whatever. Similar to every individual has a religious worldview, but they may or may not recognize it. I recognize my worldview as Christian, and I want my government to be based on Christianity - just like the founding fathers wanted it to be and started it out as.)

This Link to the Library of Congress says the date was Sept. 11, 1776 when Congress voted to purchase Bibles, however, the journal is dated Sept. 12. (Great Library of Congress link to 'Religion and the Founding of the American Republic')

So Mr. Unsaved Congressperson receives a Bible (and through the Holy Spirit) one day opens it up (could be intellectual curiosity, could be because their life is falling apart) and becomes saved. And this would be a bad thing? Why not Thank God that there are still people willing to preach the Gospel, instead of your negativity?

Have a look at the story of William Wilberforce who was a British politician and almost single handedly ended the English slave trade. Being a Christian is not something you do part time.

I am not sure where you see the dates, because the year you posted isn’t correct. I don’t see any dates on LOC. I may not be looking in the right place though.

Here is a good quote from the LOC link you provide:

I apologize, I got the year wrong, it is 1777. Scroll down the page and it is 4th or 5th from the bottom titled Atkins Bible with text on the left and image of journal on right. It may have taken a day to put in the journal.

Of course, to hold any public office in Virginia at the time you had to demonstrate an affiliation with a state church.

His own journals show Luke warm attendance.

So, yeah...he was an Episcoplaian. The same way half the people on my street are Catholic.

My Note:

there no such thing as a Separation of Church and State. It was a letter written by Jefferson to a few Boston people, after the Constitution was written and ratified.

Our Constitution states that the State shall not establish a formal religion belonging to the State.

Someone needs a history class and stop pushing this bullshit around!
