The American Dream Is Dead, And Good Riddance (Barf alert)
Daily Beast ^ | July 7, 2014 | Keli Goff

New analysis confirms what many already assumed to be true: a sizable number of Americans can no longer afford the American Dream. Inspired by the new book, Chasing the American Dream, USA Today calculated that subsidizing the American Dream costs approximately $130,000 annually, meaning the dream is only within reach for about 1 in 8 American families.

The shocking six-figure price tag generated international headlines. But instead of inspiring handwringing about how to make the American Dream more affordable, I hope these numbers show us something else: the American Dream as we know it is dead, and good riddance.

Any bets if the so-called $130,000 costs of the "American Dream" came out during a GOP Administration Ms. Goff would write her drivel or she would be screaming about how said GOP POTUS has ruined the American Dream for future generations.

So she is happy to replace the American Dream with New Soviet Man. Hate to tell her but New Soviet Man was a drunken wife beater who didn’t give a damn about his job or much anything else because he knew he was just a piece of meat; an ant in an anthill, and just as disposable.

The “Progressives” celebrate the new normal.

Reminds me of the joke when death grants on last wish to an American, a Frenchman, and a Russian. The Russian’s wish was to burn down his neighbors house. Always with envy as their main motivation. Better to rule in hell than to serve in heaven.

Wages stagnate for middle America for 15 years now....While the price of everything nearly doubled..

Thousands of jobs sent to Communist countries...Private sector wages reduced, hours cut, part time jobs if your lucky, retirements slashed or eliminated, heath care controlled by reckless lawless corrupt government...

On and on...

Sadly. This is the opinion of a great many people who reside here. I can’t say Americans because they don’t seem interested in the freedom and possibility that has been the fabric of America until now.

We now just have residents. No understanding of how great we had it nor any desire to expand the benefits of freedom and prosperity.

I lived the American Dream and now I’m going to live the American Retirement! And I don’t need $130,000 to do it.

—Adults living alone are currently one of the fastest growing demographics in America. Nearly a third of households now consist of one person, and the number of Americans living alone has doubled in the last fifty years.—

I’m sure our ultra high divorce rate is behind that, plus all the runaway “fathers” in some “cultures” in America.

Most of the people in Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Texas, etc wish the American dream was still alive. Why can’t we have the way it was? Why do we have to live under the government the commies want?

Obama and Michelle campaigned against the American Dream. They said you shouldn’t work hard to get ahead, work for a non-profit instead. They called the American Dream “Middle class-ism”.

I agree with you about the Progressives and the new normal. But I’m sure the author of this disgusting piece of traitorousness has an income well in the high 6 figures. All communists hate and loathe the middle-class because we keep countries afloat with our hard work and patriotism. We must be destroyed.

Some of it is death of a spouse. Some of it is single-by-choice young people. Some of it is widowed or never-married parents whose youngest has moved out.

Not everyone is 25-49 with young kids. Divorce often also results in 2 multi-person (blended families with kids from previous marriages) families.

Having experienced one divorce and one death of a spouse and now being in a 40-year marriage, I find it simplistic to rant about what other people choose to do. Sometimes divorce is the best alternative. I had a spouse who was serially unfaithful with people of questionable hygiene, for example. Staying married to that was not an option for anyone with healthy self-esteem and a young child. Certainly no one is responsible for the death of their spouse unless they were a murderer.

Not everyone hates living alone, either. I know several people who had wonderful marriages and are now single because of death and enjoying it. They have friends and a social life, but don’t choose to live with anyone in particular. Men, especially, seem to enjoy not being told what to do and not being financially responsible for another adult later on in life. People with assets are often loathe to combine them in a second or third marriage.

Different strokes............

The left destroys your future and then tells you why its good for you...

Liberty and independence is a foreign concept to these people. It all about making you a cog in their machine for the “greater good”.

She actually makes some good points -- the American Dream isn't about stuff, though the progressives try to solve every problem with more taxpayer provided stuff.

It's the conservatives that know there's more to life, that social problems aren't simply economic problems that need more government spending to solve.

This author doesn’t understand the concept of ‘The American Dream’ and, like all liberals, defines it HIS way only.

I truly hate liberals and wish they’d all die.

If it involves a subsidy, it ain't the American Dream.
