Christianity already being forced out in Russian-controlled Crimea

...‘Christian’ Putin has returned the brutal heel of the Marxism-Leninism ideology which made atheism the official doctrine of the Soviet Union down on the people of Russia’s newly-acquired Crimea.

Throughout the 70-year history of the Soviet Union, Christianity was suppressed and persecuted uninterrupted until Pope John Paul 11, President Ronald Reagan and British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher brought down the Iron Curtain and Soviet Communism.

The Soviet Union didn’t change when it became plain Mother Russia. The KGB tiger called Putin has never changed his stripes.

With yesterday’s cheers still resounding from the overwhelming 96.77 percent for Crimea to rejoin Russia and 2.51 percent against still resounding, the biggest victim of the referendum is Christianity—already being forced out.

“Earlier this month, Ukrainian Greek Catholic priests received oral and written threats warning them to leave Crimea.” (Vatican News)

Over the weekend, three priests of the Greek-Catholic church were missing in Crimea.

“On Sunday at around 2 p.m., the priest of the Greek-Catholic church, Mykola Kvych disappeared in Sevastopol.” (Democratic Alliance, March 16, 2014)

“According to the report, the last thing he managed to say: “If I do not get in touch anymore, then please report: they are smashing in the doors of my apartment on Khrustalova Street. They are the police and pro-Russian “self-defense”, there are many of them, I have metal doors, but I do not know how long they will stand.

“I spoke with Father Mykola today at around 12:00. He told me that Finnish journalists would come for an interview. Probably at the time of the attack, they could stay in his apartment,”—said the head of the Information Department of Greek-Catholic Church Ihor Yatsiv.

“Besides, parishioners of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church from Yevpatoria reported that their priest Bogdan Kostecki had also disappeared today.

Christians have been being slaughtered in Nigeria, Syria, Iraq, North Korea, and Iran....Obama has been silent. He will be silent on these atrocities, too.

Sounds like Putin is eliminating the competition for the Russian Orthodox Church, it is their State religion.

Coming Soon to European Capitals Near You...

Not going to war with Russia over Crimea.
How about Kiev?
How about Vilnius?
How about Warsaw?
How about Berlin? (We were in 1948 and 1961.)
How about Paris?
How about London?

Wherever you draw the line, you’ll be just as radioactive if Putin mistakenly believes he can cross it.

Caesar demanded to be worshiped. The word “Tsar” comes from the word Caesar. We see in Putin the desire to be a modern day Tsar with all the power of life and death. It’s clear too that he wants to be worshiped, like the narcissist that he and Obama both are. It appears that we have a faction here that want to worship Putin as well, not Christ. They sanction his violence and praise his hubris and his glorying in war and power.

Bullcrap. This is just more propaganda, this time from the other side.

Putin sees himself as a modern-day Peter the Great, and understands that he needs the support of the Russian Orthodox Church to maintain his power base.

There might be some Muslim Tatars in the Crimea, but the Crimea does not have a Muslim problem, and will not, because their numbers are too few and the culture there is different than in the Middle East.

It appears Putin favors the Russian Orthodox as a state Church and will come down hard on Ukrainian (Greek Byzantine) Catholics and maybe the autocephalous Ukrainian Orthodox --- anybody not under the Moscow Patriarchate.

This couod make big problems for the planned Pan-Orthodox Council.

Rev. Mykola Kvych was abducted by “law enforcing forces of Crimea.” They just freed him. A court session is scheduled in two weeks.

UGCC priest Mykola Kvych was freed by “law enforcing forces of Crimea.” He was accused of administrative violations. He was suspected of organizing provocations. Rev. Mykola categorically denied this accusation. He informed that he will continue to stay in Crimea with his faithful.

They are referring to the Greek Catholic church. See this FR thread. Greek Catholic Priest Kidnapped

The Greek Catholic priests of the peninsula have been directed not to celebrate services in their churches this Sunday but to serve in Roman Catholic Churches where in the company of other clergy their safety can be more easily guaranteed.

The Yanukovych government threatened to delegalize the Greek Catholic Church at Christmas time due to the pastoral attention that priest gave to protesting faithful. From 1946 to 1989 the UGCC was the biggest illegal Church in the world and the most substantial body of social opposition to Soviet rule in Ukraine. Since it did not collaborate with Soviet authorities it has enjoyed particular moral authority in Ukrainian society in the post-Soviet period and during the current social and political crisis.

So you’re also in favor of eliminating non Russian Orthodox Christian Churches in your sycophancy for the dictator Putin?

There are plenty of extremely political "priests" in this country that preach anti-American Marxism and tolerance of deviant behavior and love importing hordes of Third-worlders. And who can forget that ravings of Obama's favorite "Christian" pastor Jeremiah Wright?

I'm sure the local Crimeans are cleaning out those priests they see as political liabilities. To say the Orthodox Russians are forcing out Christianity is patently absurd and pure hyperbole.

Even if they were it isn't any worse than what our dear friends the Saudis treat Christianity and far, far less then what our close Al-Qaeda allies are doing to Christians in Syria.

That was pretty amazing what he/she just did to you. I’m seeing that all too often on FR. You accurately described the situation, and he/she assumed it meant that you support it. Ready, Fire, Aim!

Are they being run out too?

No, but they were totally subverted into organs of state propaganda long ago.
