A Malaysia Airlines flight carrying 239 people has lost contact with air traffic control and was still missing two hours after it was supposed to have landed in Beijing, the airline said Saturday morning.

The airline told NBC News that a search-and-rescue mission was under way but said it had no further information.

The flight from Kuala Lumpur, carrying 227 passengers, including two infants, and 12 crew members, had been scheduled to land at 6:30 a.m. in Beijing (5:30 p.m. ET Friday).

If it were down over land, the ELT would be going nuts.

I’ve got the uninformed feeling that it is down over water somewhere.

Live news conference coming up shortly. Fox News Live is covering it now. No communication from pilot is bizarre.

If there is no communication from the pilot, then something catastrophic happened. That increases the chance a bomb on board the plane may have exploded and brought it down.

I doubt it was a bomb. There are a million things that can go wrong with a plane that size.

Our guys (spook type guys) probably know already, but can’t say anything without compromising sources/techniques.

Not necessarily. They finally found out about the Air France over the Atlantic and that was far out in the open ocean, after some time had passed.

This is true. No mayday signal would indicate a major catastrophe.

IMO, bomb unlikely, as the bad guys like spectacular events, with lots of gore and cameras around and they generally take credit for their handiwork rather quickly.

Could have been pilot error, airframe failure, engine/ mechanical....Who knows at this point..

I think they'll find debris soon enough..

There aren’t many reasons for the sudden disappearance of an airliner without a distress call or anything.

I seriously doubt any terrorism. Even if Malaysia is mostly Moslem, that is no reason for it.

These Moslem scum usually have a show to put on. They want everyone to see it. They would like a real target like 9/11. Not just randomly blowing up over ocean so no one knows until too late. Also, what speciAl beef do they have against China? No good targets I can see around there.

I think it’s just an accident. I pray their electronics just went out and they just can’t talk. Wishful thinking.

Agreed. There is always lots of wishful thinking that Moslems are involved in every tragedy. Even when signs are few. Most of the time it is not anything that spectacular.

I thought I read somewhere that it had just reached altitude at 35,000 ft when they lost contact. Could it just have fell apart from pressure or stress effects? They would need to ground 777s.

No, look up Air France.

Things DO suddenly go wrong, including sleeping staff and silent communication systems.
