Tow Truck Driver Charged With Murder After Police Say He Ran Down Man Who Robbed Him
Washington Post ^ | Wednesday, January 1 | Peter Hermann

Posted on 01/01/2014 8:01:55 PM PST by nickcarraway

Kevin Lewis Crouch walked into a tow lot in Northeast Washington on Tuesday afternoon and asked about a green car. But D.C. police said the 22-year-old man quickly pulled a gun on the tow truck driver who was trying to help him and demanded money.

The driver began to run but tripped and fell, police said, and Crouch struck him twice in the head with the butt of his gun. The driver then heaved his wallet against a fence in the lot on Kenilworth Avenue.

As Crouch went to grab the wallet, police said, the driver climbed into his white Isuzu tow truck and then fatally struck his assailant. On Wednesday, the victim of the armed robbery became a criminal suspect, as police charged Corey D. Stoddard, 35, of Northeast Washington, with second-degree murder while armed, his tow truck being the weapon.

Police said that Crouch was dragged along a sidewalk and that authorities found a pellet gun broken into three pieces under his body when they rolled him over to provide first aid. The death was ruled a homicide late Tuesday — the 104th and final slaying in the District last year.

I would start with self defense — robber still armed and still a threat (even though he turned his back = “King’s X”).

From the comments section; “Don’t bring a pellet gun to a tow truck fight”.

I would vote not guilty if I were on the jury.

Except for the legal charges this story had a happy ending. This is proof that everyone should own a backhoe.

These crazies would probably throw the whole jury in jail for acquitting him.

“I was traumatized and in fear for my life, he had beaten me with his gun and I thought I was going to die. I jumped in my truck and in my traumatized confusion I was unable to avoid hitting him as he jumped into my direction of travel. I just thank God I wasn’t killed”

This happened in broad daylight just after noontime!!!!!!!!!!>>>>>

Give the tow truck driver a medal for removing this pos. For taking out the trash. I don’t care if the driver is black or white. The assailant seems to be black (I am profiling here....)

And yet, pellet guns are treated like “assault weapons” by the left.

The dead perp used the gun to beat his victim over the head.

BTW, good riddance.

Thanks nickcarraway.

If this guy were a cop, all he would have to say is “he feared for his life”. That is license to kill.

Remember cops investigated this case and must have made recommendations to charge to the DA, who decided to charge the guy.

Cops get to kill on any pretext but they will send a citizen up the river in a heartbeat.

Freepers are strict!!! You use a pellet gun like a real gun in the course of a robbery and bodily assault.... You just might die when your victim fights back.

A cautionary tale for low lifes everywhere.

I'd acquit, were I on the jury. Were he a police officer, there would be no charges. Justifiable homocide.

The end result of such travesties of justice will be that people who survive such attacks will just quit phoning it in. Let the sub-humans rot in the street.
