Rohullah Qarizada is one of those Afghans you used to see a lot on American TV in the immediate aftermath of the Taliban's fall. Trimly bearded, dapper in Western suit and tie, he heads the Afghan Independent Bar Association in Kabul. Did you know Kabul had a bar association? A few years back, I ran into one of the U.S. prosecutors who helped set it up, with a grant from the Swedish foreign ministry. Mr. Qarizada currently sits on a committee charged with making revisions to the Afghan legal code. What kind of revisions? Well, for example: "Men and women who commit adultery shall be punished based on the circumstances by one of the following punishments: lashing, stoning."

What do you mean, different kind of stoned? Bummer, dude.
India is better off without suttee, just as Afghanistan would be better off without child marriage, honor killing, death for apostasy, and stoning for adultery. What my readers liked about my little bit of Napier karaoke at live appearances was its cultural cool. It wasn't an argument for more war, more bombs, more killing, but for more cultural confidence. In the long run, that's more effective than a drone. For the least worst two-thirds of a century in its history, the vast fractious tribal dump of Sudan was run by about 200 British civil servants. These days, I doubt the smallest Obamacare branch office makes do with fewer than 200 "navigators." Yet, alert to the obsolescence of the mid-20th-century social programs, the Right remains largely blind to the similarly too-big-to-fail model of the American way of war. No serious person can argue that we're not spending enough money. The problem is we waste so much of it to the point where in Afghanistan the Western occupation accounts for 97 percent of GDP, and all we have built is another squalid sharia state.
IMHO, we should get the heck out of Afghanistan tomorrow with this provision:
"If you support attacks on America, we will return, but you will never see us. Your deaths will come from the sky. Your cities will be burned, your opium crops poisoned. Afghanistan and its many stone-age tribes will be a memory."
I heard that the word for ‘stone’ in Afghanese is pronounced ‘ganja’.
Three Cups of Tea: The ideology/worldview which is burying our military men. Very sick emasculation of our men. It assumes (like all Marxism) that human beings can be programmed by American worldview into Christian Ethics-—without the Christianity. As if islam is interchangeable with the worldview of Christianity and Judaism. As if culture wasn’t based on fundamental “ideology” of Virtue. It is “utopianism”-—Marxism.
Not possible without totalitarianism to control the minds of the masses (hearts). And the people who will gain total control will be totally evil.
My vision of Three Cups of Tea: inviting women to tea party for a Love-in and pretending women are have the same nature as men when in reality you are forcing men to become just like women and strip themselves of their mature masculinity which created the greatest civilization and governments in the history of the World.....that emasculation necessary for complete slavery of the masses and the worldview of hatred/rejection of half the human race.
You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: When men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours.”
That’s what they should have done in the first place rather than sending in ground troops to be all touchy feely.
If we did that they would never bother us again.
Turned out the guy made a lot of it up. He’s been cashiered, I believe.
Mark Steyn ping.
Freepmail me, if you want on or off the Mark Steyn ping list.
Thanks for the ping Slings and Arrows.
Our leaders are fools...
Mr. Steyn is wrong here.
We no longer need to be forced to share the planet with 6th century savages. Half a dozen nukes and a few tons of nerve gas would end our problem with these “people” for a thousand years. And their goat humping, child sodomizing, satan worshipping cohorts would piss their pants and beg our mercy for 5 or 6 centuries.
At this point I’d settle for that.
The primary advantage of going all Charles Martel on the goat humping middle eastern gomers with nukes is that the oil will be unaffected. It is so deep that it will be unharmed. The problem is the radiation. The oil workers will only be allowed to work a few months a year due to the radiation load.
That photo of the woman being half-buried in preparation for stoning is one of the most disturbing things I’ve ever seen. No matter how often it’s posted, the effect never lessens.
3cups of tea and no bathroom. Now that’s torture
As it should be, in a civilized nation.
“The problem is the radiation.”
Make the problem known and pay workers a premium.
But it’s way past time civilized nations wiped these savages from the face of the earth and see that Arabic is spoken is spoken only in hell.
Not only should we get out of Afghanistan immediately, but we should outlaw Islam and deport every Muslim to the crappy Muslim country of his or her choice. Then tell them that if one more act of terrorism happens, we will cover Mecca in pork rinds.
So Steyn has his usual Friday column posted at his own site as authored by “National Review’s Happy Warrior”—but NR hasn’t posted it?
Has he pulled himself from the NR site? One of their editors, Jay Nordlinger, claimed that NR was a big supporter of Steyn—but they haven’t posted this week’s column after Steorts, their no-name editor, insulted his column last week.
