CONNECTICUT GUN OWNERS WAIT IN LINE TO DO SOMETHING MANY GUN OWNERS HOPE THEY NEVER HAVE TO

Connecticut residents waited in long lines on Thursday to register their firearms and high-capacity magazines before the state’s new gun laws go into effect on Jan. 1, 2014.

WFSB-TV reports that a “long-line of people” stood outside the Public Safety Building in Middletown, Conn., all day to register semi-automatic rifles and high-capacity magazines. Several residents were upset with the “unconstitutional” requirement, while at least one person didn’t appear to mind.

“I understand why they’re doing it, but I don’t think it’s constitutional,” resident Scott Boccio told WFSB-TV as he was registering his guns.

Charles Gillette, who was registering magazines, told the news station that he would have a problem with it if the state was trying to ban the magazines or firearms, but said “if they want to just know where they are, that’s fine with me.”

However, not one gun owner who was registering firearms or magazines said they think the new laws will reduce gun violence.

“If people are going to do things illegally, they’re not going to be here registering their gun,” Jared Krajewski, another resident registering firearms, said.

For now, in Connecticut, the law is the law. The new gun control measures were put into place following the tragic school shooting in Newtown, Conn.

State police Lt. Paul Vance said that gun owners must fill our forms completely and some may require a notary.

..recently, .....I lived on St Croix a year. It’s a US Virgin Island and has a big new US Federal Courthouse. One fed judge lived real close to me. Anyway, THE REASON a white person by and large will not own a gun there is because you have to register it. Seems the cops sell the registration info to the burglars. Since the Virgins have the number 8 murder rate in the world, white folks won’t send an open invitation to the burglars to break in and kill them. So, even though guns are technically legal, the corrupt cops make it very hazardous to your health!

People need to follow the example of those in Canada who were supposed to register all their long guns.

Just don't.

Compliance was estimated at best around 50% before, after 5 years, the government finally threw in the towel.

CONNECTICUT GUN OWNERS WAIT IN LINE

Why stand in line for hours? I mailed mine in. Albeit, begrudgingly.

Any fool who complies with that law deserves what is coming to them.

Easy for you to say as you won't be the one going to jail.

What would you have us do? Start shooting? How do you think would work out?

Exactly. It's easy to talk tough from behind a monitor in another state.

I'm just waiting for the first case where thieves hack the gun owner registry and target gun owners for theft of their firearms or conversely, target those who don't own guns for theft of their belongings. There needs to be a major class action law suit based on that occurrence alone.

Stupid sheep. The Fedgov nor any State has the man-power to check on nor enforce such registration of weapons not previously registered, unless Conn. gun dealers are required to send sales info to the State. Even then...

I remember back in 1988? in California when semi-auto rifles were deemed "assault weapons" because of certain cosmetics and to be illegal. The couple people I knew with such a semi-auto did not turn them in nor register them. Guess what? No enforcement. Never heard of any kind of sweep by LEO's nor even any examples made.

Just another useless feel-good gun grab from law-abiding citizens. Who here on Free Republic doesn't read every day some bad guy being deterred from his crime due to a law-abiding person with a gun? I READ SUCH EVERY DAMN DAY ON THIS SITE! In fact, it's become so common, I mostly skip those articles.

Oh, and you liberals, including politicians, tell me exactly when (if ever) the bad guys are going to register their weapons and/or turn them in. You people think because you outlaw guns (the ultimate solution) a black market won't exist? What about the millions of existing guns that won't be turned in? You bleeding-heart liberal/socialists have lost any common sense that you may have had even as a child.

I'm abhorred by the senseless mass killings that occur in our Country, but making good people defenseless will never stop the CRAZIES from doing harm. It's part of the human condition to be a psychopath. All we can do is try to weed them out early on, and defends ourselves against them.

>>I'm thinking only God's hand can prevent bloodshed as the restoration of just governance... and it may be by bloodshed God works<<

The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. (Thomas Jefferson)

This was Jefferson who said this. Notice he did not say should be, could be, might be, ought to be, may be.

Thomas Jefferson knew full well that corrupt men would again take the reigns of gubbamint. He knew evil men lurked in the halls of gubbamint waiting to seize power.

Not my words...The words of the 3rd president of the United States...Thomas Jefferson.
