Pope Francis, The Choice (Time person of the year!)
Time ^ | Nancy Gibbs

Posted on 12/11/2013 6:31:03 AM PST by Morgana

Once there was a boy so meek and modest, he was awarded a Most Humble badge. The next day, it was taken away because he wore it. Here endeth the lesson.

How do you practice humility from the most exalted throne on earth? Rarely has a new player on the world stage captured so much attention so quickly—young and old, faithful and cynical—as has Pope Francis. In his nine months in office, he has placed himself at the very center of the central conversations of our time: about wealth and poverty, fairness and justice, transparency, modernity, globalization, the role of women, the nature of marriage, the temptations of power.

That really makes sense: punishing a child for reading his prayer book by taking it away from him and making him watch cartoons on TV.

I’m not the one “tap dancing” around the question seeing as you have YET to answer the one I addressed to you first.

You love it? Really? It’s clearly because of his unfortunate economic comments.

“I tried to stay optimistic about the pope, but came to the point when I had to admit he’s a complete disaster...”

Exact same thinking as my own. Rerum Novarum on Capital and Labor by Pope Leo XIII already tells us that private ownership is in accordance with the law of nature. I haven’t read either encyclical in it’s entirety but just skimming Rerum Novarum convinces me that this Pope got it and why do we need another on the subject?

I too am exceedingly close to finding a Chapel, although we have Pius V nearer to us than X and I worry about validity of the mass, although I am close to certain that some of the Novus Ordo masses around here are just about invalid too.

Methinks this Pope is questionable:

Thank God I converted.

“Crackdown” on Pre-Vatican II Latin mass...

Hmm. I LIKE the Pre-Vatican II Latin.

Refuse to obey. Like anything else liberal.

God will sort it out.

End of story.

Kinda appears that way at the moment...

Read the book “AA-1025” when you get a chance. There’s a downloable PDF of it out here somewhere.

It explains a lot.

Pope Francis was chosen for the exact same reason the others, both liberal and conservatives were chosen. He was the biggest story of the year. His flock is over a billionare people and the press picked up on him paying for his own room after the conclave, then washing the feet of prisoners, saying Mass in prison, and kissing the head of lepors - all basically acting like a parish priest instead of what THEY PERCEIVED the leader of the Catholic Church is supposed to do. The doctrine of the Catholic Church remains the same under Francis, but the braindead media for some reason thinks he’s going to be different from other Popes before him. Surprise. He’s the same, just has a different style. So now you can reply back and say it was because of a couple lines of a 285 page paper of his and label him a communist or socialist, and of course tell me that’s why Time made him Person of the Year. But you ignore the part where he said we need to GET PEOPLE OFF WELFARE. Because you know that socialists put people on welfare, they don’t want them off. And since your agenda is to trash the pope you will say nothing good about his 285 page “Joy of the Gospel”.

If “One of Our Good Guys” is voted Time’s Person of the Year, it’s time to reassess his bona fides.

I’m not religious but my mom is a DEVOUT Catholic.

After initially liking him my mom said he’s reminding her of all the liberal priests she knows. There are a lot of them, and liberal nuns are also a problem.

But as we see on this thread a lot of people seem to have the idea you can’t be a good Catholic without making excuses for this guy. Kinda like how Republicans felt they had to rally around George Bush when he was being liberal.

"Good lord

You guys are in complete denial

A liberal pope plain and simple

A real pity

Does any Catholic here see this?

$&!?#%€£¥+#~?!!"

-----------------

AAAAAAARGH!

NOT "liberal."

NOT F$&@#%^ LIBERAL!

Adam Smith was a liberal. Jefferson was a liberal. Bastiat, JS Mill, Hayek...all liberals. Hayek wrote a fairly famous essay called "Why I am not a Conservative" or something very close to that.

Milton Friedman called himself a liberal to his dying day.

These people are leftists, Marxists, socialists, statists, collectivists. ANYTHING but "liberal!"

When I hear people calling the likes of Filth Obama, Chuck Shumer and nitwits such as the editorial staff of Time "liberals," I fear my head will explode.

Marx DETESTED liberals - and for good reason. Liberals believe in the individual, and in individual sovereignty. Statists like Pope Lefty believe in no such thing. They find the notion quaint and outdated.

I need a drink.

Hank

I am Jewish, but my Catholic friends believe that it is God working through the Cardinals that appoints the Pope.

If this is part of the Catholic doctrine, how could a Catholic ever be against what the Pope says? Wouldn’t that be going against God?
