Americans are more conservative than they have been in decades
Washington Post ^ | 9/30/13 | Larry Bartels

Posted on 11/16/2013 6:04:54 PM PST by 1010RD

The latest update of Stimson’s policy mood series suggests that the American public in 2012 was more conservative than at any point since 1952. (Actually, since mood in each year is estimated with some error, it seems safer to say that the current level of conservatism roughly equals the previous highs recorded in 1980 and 1952.) While the slight increase in conservatism from 2011 to 2012 is too small to be significant, it continues a marked trend that began as soon as Barack Obama moved into the White House.

If this were true, how come Obama is president?

Perhaps because the IRS blocked hundreds of Tea Party groups from activism?

It seems that for years we have seen one or two of these stories is posted here every month.

Yet the liberal steamroller keeps chugging along, democrats keep winning important elections, and red states keep turning purple and blue.

Then, there must be a big disconnect between being a conservative, and how that conservative votes.

Likely, the problem is that, there are a lot of “conservatives” voting like RINOs.

Otherwise, how would anyone explain liberals still holding on to so many positions in congress and the White House, and in local and state governments. (Yeah, I know there’s a lot of voting fraud, but, that wouldn’t explain so many liberals in office if so many of the population are being called “conservative”).

And in other news it has been discovered that Elvis and JFK are alive and well on Mars.

I will believe it when I see it. In the mean time I will stick with Mark Steyn’s observation. He states that Americans love big government handouts more than anyone in the Western World, the difference is that we just will not admit it. Being a cynic, I can't get the image of a Tea Partier at a rally with a sign stating, “Cut Spending, but hands of my Social Security and Medicare.” We have met the enemy and they are us.

Maybe, BUT: TH einner cities are overtaking all in the electoral college. They have the population and they have the corruption to win.
I still can’t believe that nothing has come of the 100% or near 100% voter turn out on some places.

On every issue we debate, she always take an extremely conservative viewpoint.

Same with my mother. I don't know exactly what happened, but somehow Michael Savage caught her interest. Eventually, and with some encouragement from me, she started listening to Mark Levin, whom she came to love. Sadly she passed away last spring at the age of 95, but not before she cast her first and only straight Republican ballot in the 2012 election.

Take it slow with your mother. Talk issues, not parties. Good luck.

2014 will tell us soon enough whether this article is true or not.

We will be North Korea by 2020.

>> We need to take the long view. We’re winning, can we capture the Millenials with better ideas?

Yes, and yes.

For starters, let’s stop pissing on those that identify themselves as libertarians, or worse Libertarians.

Libertarianism is the new haven for the Millenials that normally reject paternal govt. While these Millenials often think in socially liberal terms, they may not be willing to accept the consequences of the liberalism they believe they want, and that can only exist through the iron stink-fist of law.

It’s important to condemn the components of the Libertarian Party’s platform that advances open boarders, negligence of nascent life, negligence of marriage, negligence of youth. These stated articles are Leftwing in nature, and not only speak against individual rights, but aim for law that constrains the rights of life, rights of association, and rights of dissociation.

Not every Millenial is ready for the Libertarian kool-aid despite the desire for liberty — to be free from statism. But the same Millenial likely desires true libertarianism that is intrinsically agnostic to the values defined through liberalism and conservatism. The factors of enforcement must not be conflated with the factors that concern moral values. And to understand this distinction is not concede any moral ground whatsoever.

It should be the goal of every conservative adult to explain why the path of conservatism is beneficial to the libertarian’s desire for independence, desire for liberty, desire for prosperity, desire for life. It is counterproductive to do otherwise.

I disagree, if this is so true then Obama would not have been elected even the first time.

One word: Obamacare!

I think this is going to be a gamechanger! It's gonna put the libs out to pasture for decades if not generations.

Call me crazy if you like but people LIKED the healthcare system that was in this country pre-obamacare. There were no riots in the streets to fix things. Only in the lib screed was there a preceived problem.

Now people are finding that a year or two down the line they're no longer middle class but lower middle class if even that good, because their top three household expenditures are now mortgage, vehicle and healthcare.

I thinkk that Obamacare is going to be the gift that keeps giving for decades down the line.

That's how important I think obamacare is going to be on the American political landscape.

Notice how whenever the Conservatism gets lower, the economic prosperity does as well.

“While the slight increase in conservatism from 2011 to 2012 is too small to be significant”

Right after the 2010 elections, and the big yawn in conservative activism which equated directly to losing the interest of 4 million voters that might have made more of an impact in 2012...

But hey, do we really need an article like this to encourage analysis like what we have here in this discussion thread???

I personally believe the normal attention span of a conservative voter, that only listens to FoxNews and talk radio to be about that of a gnat...

So if the issue isn’t front and center in the two, maybe three days before an election, or being drummed at the same people during early voting...

Its like a wisp of vapor, on a cool mid-morning lake...

>>We’re winning, can we capture the Millenials with better ideas?

We can, we just need to not drive them off as our local GOP establishment is doing, since they represent a threat to the status quo. Similar to how the GOPEs treat TEA Party types.

As someone pointed out, when the population goes conservative during a liberal administration, the damage done by the lefties in never totally repaired, so we continue to slide more and more in the “progressive” direction due to not educating people about what “conservative” means and what we stand for.

In some of the Urban areas of Texas, its more like 150% and I speculate that its one of the reasons for the “missing white voter” phenomenon.

If something isn’t done soon and effectivley to true the vote, these elections will become ever more pointless.

Looks like conservatism is now defined as demorat dissapointment in the Kenyan? Nothing else has happened to educate or otherwise create more knowledgeable people in the fundamentals——TedCruz, maybe?
