Could the Different States Become Separate Countries in the Future?

Posted on 10/17/2013 8:45:51 AM PDT by ComtedeMaistre

Governor Rick Perry was once alleged to have stated that Texas could secede in the future. But he now states he opposes succession:

http://www.usatoday.com/story/onpolitics/2012/11/13/rick-perry-texas-secession-petition/1702359/

If the different states were to become different nations, the federal government would cease to exist. That means that the federal debt would be reduced to Zero. But the price that Americans would pay, would be the loss of super power status. Would Americans be better off or worse off, if the states were to become different countries?

Government is a monopoly on the use of force over a certain geographical area.

Of course you may like government to limit its actions to that required to maintain its monopoly. In that you have my agreement and support.

But that would mean it has the authority, the right, and the power to suppress insurrection.

True...and a large segment of the population applauded it.

So nice that you care.

It is, isn't it? (-:

If it makes you feel any better I'm now convinced of your bona fides as a conservative but that does still leave me scratching my head as to some of what you've posted in this topic.

Kill them? Imprison them? Vote them off the island? Take away their rights to vote and believe what ever the hell they wanted? I wouldn’t want to live in YOUR Republic!

Yes, because that is what they plan for Conservatives

It is just that insurrection is such a very bad option, and it gives so much power to a president that I DO NOT TRUST, that I hold it would be a bad approach.

Well thanks for that.

If I can convince one person on a thread like this, then I only have about a hundred left to go.

I agree that insurrection is a very bad option and that's why I said it should be reserved as a last resort. But not ruled out entirely. Why? Because if you're so afraid that Obama will use the threat of insurrection as a reason to commit tyranny then obviously things are so bad that we NEED the ability to resist the government.

Think of it like a Sword of Damocles hanging over their heads. So long as they behave then the sword won't fall. The idea is that they are then pursuing their self-interest by behaving and not misbehaving.

I am not for going to war. I am for recognition that legal secession requires the permission of more than just you.

Further, I am for recognition that illegal insurrection would hand great power to the President, and I do not trust the current president. Shutting down the government hands great power to the President, and I do not trust the current President.

I don’t smoke dope. I am opposed to giving the government the kind of power over me that violation of that law would give to them.

(The lessons of Weimar are soon to be relearned.)

That’s your tagline right?

When the collapse occurs, the gov will dissolve and the soldiers will go home to protect their families from the EBT crowd. Chaos will rein for a while but soon the rural folks will gain the upper hand since we control the food water and transport of goods into inner cities. States like mine here in Texas will initiate self government and soon others will join us.

Subtle changes to the existing Constitution could be made and for the most adopted by the state, such as restricting votes by acreage and not individuals. Moreover, anyone on the government doll/payroll does not get to vote, or their vote is somehow weighted to account for that biased aspect. That’d eliminate the libtard bastions/cancers of big cities. So many Constitutional amendments to make to cure the cancer overtaking this country.

Where in the Constitution does it say if a state secedes that Obama must to war against the people in that state?

nowhere. but you want and approve of the federal government going to war against a people of a state that want to secede. we have a right to independence and to secede peacefully . and why are you liberals democrats so scared of even talk of secession? leave us alone. you want to deny us our right to freedom and independence which is a fundamental human right. and you think you are not a collectivist/statist. you are.

Sgt, I like that. In the future I’ll forward that to President Cruz, the 1st President of the 2nd Republic of Texas as one of our Amendments.

And also strip every current and retired member of the military of their right to vote as well.

What would be the compelling reason to keep them around? No offense, but there is not a “slavery” issue that would rally a majority in the north.

We can barely get people to Vote. Do you really think they could get northern men whipped up about anything enough to take up arms and march south? They would be dead in a week.

We could probably whip up and pretty darned good video war.

Whether I want to approve of it or not, it may be what he does.

When I play chess, I think of not only the best move for me, but I also consider strongly the move that leads to a position that is least good for my opponent. He in turn will not always select the move that is not necessarily good for him but rather the move that is least good for me.

Best for me and least good for my opponent is only sure to converge when I checkmate him because he has, by definition, no response.

In that light, pretended secession will be termed insurrection, as that is least good for those who favor liberty. Pretended secession is a bad move as it gives those who are opposed to liberty a winning position.

I hope not. I pray not.

Then again, Mick Jagger wrote...

Rural folks don’t make a lot of rolling stock or aircraft. They don’t control the transport.

It isn’t that our liberal friends are stupid, they just know so much that isn’t so.
